I read that the original Viso was mounted with strings which imo doesnt sound very reliable.

I was wondering what the mounting system was for the new VisoII was.

Anyone know?

the original viso is mounted with strings or zip ties, both are quite reliable. just if you use the string make sure its tight and you are using the wax string and not just normal string (for best results). im sure teh viso 2 is the same mounting with the only thing being different is the waterproofing.

VISO II is still mounted with waxed strings - I have one

the waterproofing isn't the only difference. I know the viso II also has a daily jump counter in addition to the regular jump log (for those who make so many they can't remember?) and it is much easier to turn the backlight on and off. It is also lower power consumption so the battery lasts longer. I know there are a list of differences but this is all I remember off the top of my head.

I didn't know this. I recently bought a VISO 2, but never read the manual
I'll have to now, to check out this new features.

I don't believe it is waterproof. Just water resistant. There is a big difference.

That's assuming you don't have a pocket on your jumpsuit or an instrument glove. If you are used to wearing gloves the instrument glove works very well.
