Javelin Closing Loop Length

Does anyone know what the factory recommended closing loop length is for a Javelin J3 container (not the newer J3K)? I have the owners manual but can't seem to find this information. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know the factory recomendedfor the older J3. I jsut measured the one I keep as a spare' that I made as per sample from the previous one and it is 5 1/2 inches. I would also think that the size of the D-bag and canopy pack volume may add some variables to that length too.

As far as I know there is no specified length for the main closing loop. Just make it short enough so that the pack is tight but not so tight that it's hard to close. It depends mostly on the size of the main canopy and the how dry or humid the environment is.

if you pull the closing loop straight up then the top of the loop should be somewhere in the middle of the the square of stitching that holds that little piece of velcro in place.

The important thing isn't some specific length, it's how tightly the loop holds the pin when the container is fully closed. It should be hard to push the pin out with one finger. If it's any looser than that, you're inviting a premature deployment. It's just about impossible to make the loop so tight that a pilot chute can't pull it out, assuming that the pin and top grommet are in decent shape.

f'ing tight!! Haha, I used to have a J2 and when freeflying the main flap would pop open if I didn't have that closing loop super tight.

I used to have mine where the closing loop would barely come up and out of the last grommet...hope that helps a little.
