MP3 players & their USB connection, please help

Recommended Posts

I am considering getting an inexpensive MP3 player for my 10 year old:

What do you think of this unit for its price?

Also, it says it uses a high speed USB connection. How do I confirm my PC has the high speed type of USB? Will it still work if my USB connection is not the higher speed type?

Apparently it is an Intel 82801 BA/BAM...I can look up more details if needed.

Thanks for your help.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

Get a cheap high speed (USB 2.0) thumb drive, like a 64mbyte. Plug it in. If a message pops up saying "this peripheral could operate faster with a high speed USB interface" then you have a low speed (USB 1.1) interface.

To get more pedantic, there are three speeds in USB. USB 1.1 supports low speed (mouse, keyboard) and full speed (memory sticks.) USB 2.0 adds high speed.

Yes. It will just be much slower.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Speed will not be an important issue with my low speed USB.

Thanks again.
