sundevil777 94 #1 December 14, 2005 I am considering getting an inexpensive MP3 player for my 10 year old: http://www.shopzilla.com/12--SanDisk_Sansa_E130_512_MB_MP3_Player_-_cat_id--499__oid--__prod_id--319231379 What do you think of this unit for its price? Also, it says it uses a high speed USB connection. How do I confirm my PC has the high speed type of USB? Will it still work if my USB connection is not the higher speed type? Apparently it is an Intel 82801 BA/BAM...I can look up more details if needed. Thanks for your help.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
kirrz 0 #2 December 14, 2005 It'll still work even if your USB port isn't high-speed.. it just won't copy stuff across at the optimum potential speed.
billvon 2,434 #3 December 14, 2005 >How do I confirm my PC has the high speed type of USB? Get a cheap high speed (USB 2.0) thumb drive, like a 64mbyte. Plug it in. If a message pops up saying "this peripheral could operate faster with a high speed USB interface" then you have a low speed (USB 1.1) interface. To get more pedantic, there are three speeds in USB. USB 1.1 supports low speed (mouse, keyboard) and full speed (memory sticks.) USB 2.0 adds high speed. >Will it still work if my USB connection is not the higher speed type? Yes. It will just be much slower.
kirrz 0 #4 December 14, 2005 To check on your PC.. you can go to control panel--> System--> Device Manager --> open the Universal Serial Bus Controllers tab --> and if you have a high speed port, one of the things under that will say USB 2.
Thanatos340 1 #5 December 14, 2005 Yes it will work with USB1.1 or USB2 (Highspeed). If you have USB 1.1 it will just be slower. Good things about the one you are looking at: It plays WMA Fies (Something the MUCH higher priced iPod will not do) Doesnt require iTunes. Can be used as a Jump drive. mailin 0 #7 December 14, 2005 Good buy! And its a flash drive, so if you kid drops it down a flight of stairs it should still work (unlike an iPod). JenArianna Frances
SpeedRacer 1 #8 December 14, 2005 If you have the old kind (1.1) it's easy to upgrade. For about $29 I bought a card at Walmart that had 4 USB 2.0 ports. pretty f'in simple & inexpensive. sundevil777 94 #9 December 14, 2005 Thanks everyone for your help. Speed will not be an important issue with my low speed USB. Thanks again.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired.
