A good buddy of mine got one this last christmas. We've decided it takes a few tries to make your first "good" beer ;)

I got one for Xmas but haven't tried it yet due to it being cold. You have to keep it 68-70 degrees while it's fermenting and I'm going to be doing this down in the basement .

Another thing is that the beer mix that comes with it will make a very light draft, I'm thinking like a BUD or something. Being the snob, I may try to add a can Oregon blueberries as per one of the recipies to make my first batch a bit stronger

I used to brew my own beer, back in the day (which was a wednesday, by the way*). During the fermenting process, I called it "Satan in a bottle", and when it was finished I called it "broccoli". It's more hassle than it's worth for the average person who simply wants homeboy brew close at hand.

Forget that...

A little sugar
a little yeast
a little concentrated grape juice
a big jug
a balloon
a place to store it at room temp for 2-3 weeks..

Viola! Homemade Buck!

If you want to make beer:

1) Check your local yellow pages or 411.com for a homebrew shop in your area
2) Set aside your evolutionarily ingrained "guys don't ask other guys for help, advice or directions" pride, then walk in and tell the guy " I wanna make beer and I don't know sh*t how."
3) Take up yoga, meditation or increased beer drinking to hone your patience

Be prepared to come off 4-6 jump tickets for your initial investment in equipment and materials (including a vital copy of The Complete Joy of Homebrewing)

If you're the kind of person who likes cooking and long term projects, and you don't mind drinking better beer than you find in most dropzone fridges for an average of 65 cents a bottle, you may have a new hobby.

If you want to make what's in that ad, drink 5 more Bud Lights and take a whizz in a paint bucket.
