Rainbow Boogie 2006 -- World's First Gay Day at a Skydiving Dropzone (Montreal, July 28-31)

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how much beer can be taken over the border from the US to Canada (how much can be transported, not how much duty free can be purchased)?

I'm thinking about cooking up a batch of Rainbow Boobie Homebrew to bring along.

Legally, not much. As a practical matter, whatever you can fit in your trunk if you're willing to answer "No" if asked if you're transporting alcohol and risk fines/duty if they do decide to seach your car.

The US has the same limits for importing. You might check if they have different regs for homebrew. I realize I was going the other direction, but I brought back two cases (24 litres) of my brother's homebrew cider and US customs didn't even care.
50 donations so far. Give it a try.

what are we looking at weather vise in July and August, is it known to be raining a lot or is it known to be a sunny place and hot??

It generally gets very warm during this time of the year -- It's southern Canada so temperatures in the 80's are common at this time. It's not like your 100's in Arizonia though. If it's cool, it's the high 70's, and if it's a heat spell, it's the low 90's. Lately, we've been getting annual heat waves, thanks to the greenhouse effect, so mid-90's are getting somewhat more common.

(Conveniently converted to Fahrenheit for you all Americans.)

Hopefully we don't get rain. :)

Thanks very much for the answer.

Hmmmmm...it *is* homebrew so I'd have lots of creative bottling options.

Or maybe relocate your keg to a BYO location in Canada. (Brew Your Own). Not sure if that's convenient, but might provide a legal loophole B|

Just had my birthday last weekend, I just became 32.

A friend of mine is taking me to Maine, and is paying for a full day's of unlimited skydiving at Skydive New England. Probably Saturday April 15th. (If the weather turns out good). In case any of you are at that dropzone for the Easter weekend.

Anybody with wingsuit experience (and a wingsuit of course)?

Hey Martin,

Let me know if you find anyone - I obviously wouldn't qualify - A mention on the RainbowSkydivers mailing list on yahoogroups is good too in addition to this. Since not all of them are on dropzone.com we could also contact the C and D licenseholders who has registered. (or write to everyone, since an A licensee could be a wingsuit flyer with enough jumps, true...)

The paid advertisements are delayed slightly, but we did make it into the boogie listings.
We've submitted our boogie listings to several sites including the following, with mentions from the following already:

http://www.skydivingmagazine.com/events.htm (Should be in April Issue of Skydiving Magazine)
http://www.uspa.org/news/events.htm (Should be in April or May Issue of Parachutist)
http://www.skydiving-events.com/month.php?date=20060728

http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/calendar/page.cgi?g=Detailed/909.html&d=1
CanPara Magazine (June/July issue)

Our logo is at our sponsors too:
http://www.nouvelair.ca (host dropzone)
http://www.sidsrigging.com (sponsor, main screen)
http://www.tobe.ca (sponsor, left sidebar)
http://www.montreal2006.org/en_supporter.html (sponsor, scroll down to center)
We finally finallized a contract with another sponsor (Finally), this time with a gay site.

Some of the boogie stuff got delayed because I'm between jobs (and still am). Posters that some people requested, for example. Those will be finished this month and be sent out to those people who requested them!

I was looking at Google (OK, I was looking up references to the old Spaceland -- the real Spaceland ), and found this article in the Houston Press (weekly alternative newspaper).

Just thought it was interesting...

so is Astroglide sponsoring this event?

No, but we have another sponsor from the "gay industry" that will be announced shortly. The contract is signed and the transaction is in progress.

Also, one magazine advertisement is paid for. We have a new logo too:
CLICKY: Magazine Advertisement with new Rainbow Boogie 2006 Logo
(This is the web viewable resolution; not the 600dpi TIFF version for print)

I'm a bit bit behind in the posters, but I got business cards printed, at least! And I promoted them at a local Ottawa gay business fair as well.

Also, I notice that 25% of our attendance will be straight, basically friends coming with our attendees, and many regulars to NouvelAir are interested in going anyway. If the weather ends up better than expected, NouvelAir may have to have all operating planes flying!

Hi Ya'll

I'm going to go to the WFFC for the first weekend. Just for Kirsten I dusted off the old "bumper suit" this past weekend and made a couple of 4-ways after flying on "The Dark Side" for so long. Wow I can still fly the inside slot and the rear floater.

Also I'm really enjoying my 120 Katana after flying Stiletto's for so long. The parachute is an excellent flying machinje and flies faster and cleaner than my comparable Stiletto and has oodles of bottom end lift. I put myself three feet back up in the air on the flare. It is ground hungry but it is very manageable. I should have enough jumps on it by July to feel better with it at a Boogie. Packing new ZP though, It's slipperier the Astroglide. HA! HA!

Speaking of Dropzones, Has anyone seen that Centerfold in this month's Skydiving? I didn't see that as a "Brokeback Mountain" joke as I always thought that The Ranch was the gayest DZ on Earth.
Actually it is a very fun place to skydive.

Chris

Do they really do do stupid skydiver tricks at Spaceland.
