I know you are jealous

Recommended Posts

Of my new pet, her name is Streamer, shes a 2 month old albino cornsnake. Her primary colors besides the white (which there is little of) is pink and orange. She has huge red eyes.

And just so Snivel doesnt get jealous I am including a link to her picture as well.

Cool. I used to have a few I raised a Columbian red tail boa, two African boas, a ball python, Burmese python. I sold them off one by one. The Burmese I sold last when I joined the Marines. If you haven't already, read up on thier natural evironment and typical food type and how often is enough. Don't want to over feed them.

At the Jax zoo I took care of the snakes there (well in the education dept, although we didnt have corns we did have rats and milks. Only thing I am nervous about with her is she is such a youngin. Size of a pencil, and even the pinkies (frozen) seem to big for her. I want a sand boa but they arent as easy to find as a corn. :)

That's a beautiful snake -- my compliments. I used to have one just like it when I was in college, but it disappeared on me when I was cleaning its tank out (put it on the table, stepped out to empty the tank, came back 30 seconds later and it was gone forever). Scoured the apt. for it, but never found it. :( If I get a snake again it will be an albino corn snake -- they are one of nature's masterpieces. Only downside is feeding them the live baby mice -- they're awfully finicky aren't they.

Post more pics later when he gets bigger, eh?

She is captive born and has only eaten frozen feed. I wouldnt feed with live food. That can be dangerous for a snake. We had a huge boa at the JAX zoo that was attacked by his rabbit dinner, almost killed him, the owners gave it to the zoo after that. She is very beautiful and wish I could hold her for longer periods but with her being so young they say only a few mins at a time ... Im trying hard to find her pattern name online but not having luck. Its very unique, bow tie, then dot, pink design with orange outline. I just got her today and will be taking more pictures as she gets bigger. I was going to pop her and make sure she is a her but Ill wait till she is bigger and just get her probed as I assume she wont get big enough for me to do it. I dont want to hurt her but want to know the gender.

Lisa... What kinda snake is she? Shes very cool looking... is she a Corn as well? Theres so many varieties I am in awe at the variations in them from color to patterns.

No, she is a gopher snake I rescued from the fires 4 years ago. She was 15" at the time and almost 6' now. I will only feed her live food since she was born in the wild. She's never seen the frozen dinner section at the store ;)

My daughter has an albino cornsnake. Her name is Athena...by far the easiest pet ever.

Especially when they poop in the water and you just have to dump it out and refill it! No scooping.

Great name by the way :)

You can tell if it's a he or a she by the shape of their tail. Well, lower quadrant. I had to wait until mine got bigger to tell.

Cool, we had one of those come into the clinic this past summer. It had "biten" on to the owners hand and refused to let go.

:o Thats rare for a corn, was it an adult? Did they feed it in a seperate enclosure? I bought a specfic feeding bin and dont plan on letting the boys hold her for awhile. Going to make them learn and respect her before introducing them.

How did you free the snake from the owners hand?

Don't know the answer to that question as I wasn't there when the doctor was asking questions.

That I can answer, as I helped doc get the snake off. We used one of those long Q-tips that you use for ears on a dog. Used the stick part and just lifted the teeth off the client's finger.

I was shocked that there really wasn't much blood on the client's finger. BTW, it was attached to her little finger on the outside of the hand where there is more meat.

When my snake is really hungry, she often tries to grab the food from my hand and gets my finger instead. If she gets stuck, I just gently squeeze behind her head (which forces her mouth to open) and unhook her. I've never had to go to the doctor [:/]
