monkycndo 0 #1 July 20, 2007 Any one else feel the earthquake that centered in Berkeley. I finally get a good nights sleep and get startled awake by a short but heavy shaking. It felt a lot heavier then the 4.2 as reported. Lots of broken glass around the epicenter, but no major damage. BART is running fine.50 donations so far. Give it a try. BillyVance 34 #3 July 20, 2007 I slept through an earthquake once while visiting my brother when he lived in California in the Santa Cruz area. His old house there was only 9 miles from the epicenter of the Loma Prieta earthquake, or rather, the Bay Area World Series earthquake. He had no damage except for a couple of figurines that fell off the mantle in that one. However, the one I slept through was a small one. He asked me in the morning if I felt it. I was like felt what? earthquake... shit. So that's one of my goals in life... feel a damn earthquake. There was one about a mag 3 in the northeast AL area that toppled a few chimneys in the countryside a couple of years ago and no I didn't feel that one either. You know the big New Madrid earthquake back in the 1800s rang church bells in Boston?? Holy fucking shit batman! Amazon 7 #7 July 20, 2007 The probabilities of a 6.0 or better by 2040 are 90% look at this chart of the difference in damage to that area as opposed to in Southern California. http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/prepare/factsheets/NewMadrid/ It compares a the damage area for a 6.8 and a 6.7 in the two areas in the past . Nah, we won't fall off into the ocean. We'll probably just get subducted under the north american plate up near Alaska and the falkland islandsDon't get too comfortable over there though. Conundrum 1 #11 July 20, 2007 4.2 isn't bad. I remember the 6.7 we had back in '94. That one was nasty. Not looking forward to another big one. Earthquakes scare me.

Still active to this day: http://folkworm.ceri.memphis.edu/recenteqs/Maps/89-37_full.html 102 earthquakes this year in the New Madrid fault, largest one is a 2.7. All very minor by official ruling (most aren't felt and about 1000 of them happen every day), but enough to keep your eye on it. I'm pretty sure that most of the midwest construction saves money by not being up to CA earthquake standards. So remember that richter isn't a linear scale, and what would be a medium magnitude quake on the west cost at very little damage would most likely cause collapse related deaths in this region._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... jacketsdb23 45 #14 July 20, 2007 Finally felt my first Earthquake. I've been telling everyone at work I just wanted to experience one small earthquake. I've had my fix. I'm done. No more earthquakes. Its amazing for such a small 4.2 - I felt a lot. Woke up, sat straight up in my bed and said out lout what the F**K was that!!! The windows were still shaking for a few seconds. I knew something was up because the trolly's didn't start for another 20 minutes!! yeah yeah...i know. I said first...BEER. Cashmanimal 0 #15 July 20, 2007 When I moved to NorCal for college my mom was very seriously worried about earthquakes. I was actually excited to experience one. After a whole year, I never felt one. I leave to come visit family for a few weeks, and this is the third one I have heard of. My roommate called me to tell me I missed two small ones the day after I left his house. He lives in Salinas (Gilroy, basically.) I live in San Jose.... are they frequent there?...It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
