Tonto 1 #2 June 18, 2006 What canopy was it? What's your wing loading? What altitude above sea level did you deploy? tIt's the year of the Pig.

herrober 0 #5 June 18, 2006 i know people jumping the same canopy with 2,4 about 700 jumps and never had that.
mjosparky 3 #6 June 18, 2006 Quotei know people jumping the same canopy with 2,4 about 700 jumps and never had that. But were they deploying a 100 meters (328 feet)? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
jerry81 10 #7 June 18, 2006 Is the rip anywhere near the winglets (or whatever those things are called)? They're sewn between the first and second cell, right?
herrober 0 #8 June 18, 2006 ? i deployed at 1000 meters

herrober 0 #11 June 18, 2006 i misunderstood i thought the question was how high was the dropzone sorry deploying height above sea
jerry81 10 #12 June 19, 2006 OK, so it ripped along the seam between 1st and 2nd cell on both sides, bottom skin. You asked who can help you- perhaps the manufacturer would be your best option.
herrober 0 #13 June 19, 2006 its already on the way to it but how can this happen i want arguments because they wont say its their mistake but im sure its a manufactor mistake my rigger said the same but thanks
nicknitro71 0 #14 June 19, 2006 My retired Viper 105 blew apart: Three cells, bottom skin, gone. Of course the cause was an extraction at 200Kts. So yes harder than normal openings can lead to that Memento Audere Semper

Waldschrat 0 #16 June 20, 2006 On my DZ in Germany is a TM, he jumps also a Nitro(135/ca. 1,8). In the last year he ripped his upside center cell off, during a opening.

I think Amazon has some recent experience with ripping, although she isn't trying to claim it was a normal opening. JArch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground. atsaubrey 0 #18 July 5, 2006 Who knows...I did the first jump on a brand new canopy loaded at about 1.05 and blew the 3rd bottom cell out. Don't know if it was bad sewing, bad material and the manufacturer didn't know either. Yes i'm a bit above the norm but look at the wingloading and age of my canopy (brand new). My opening was not out of the ordinary btw."GOT LEAD?"
ZigZagMarquis 8 #19 July 5, 2006 herrober, I'd assume you've shown it to a rigger or three and/or some more experienced jumpers? They may have a theory or two. Could you post some pictures of the damage? Like most have said, it could be a lot of things. You may or may not ever know the exact cause. What caught my eye reading your original post and the reason I decided to reply, is that you sounded surprised that it happened. Yes, canopies do rip, lines break and malfunctions do happen; you'd best be prepared for it mentally.
