New PC is driving me nuts

Recommended Posts

Just got a new laptop (Lenovo, Windows 7), and it's beeping all the frickin' time. There aren't any messages that pop up when it beeps, it just does it. The beeps are not regularly timed, and they're like the old Windows window opening and window closing beeps.

I'm used to XP, so I haven't found half of how to change and check settings yet.

I realize I could either:
a. turn off the speaker (I normally run wiht them off, but it'd be nice to know what's going on)
b. buy and read some doc

but I figured I'd ask my good friends at dz.com first...

thanks
Wendy

I found the Lenovo support forum fairly ineffective when asked them about the closing sequence on a Vector container, but amazingly helpful about Lenovo products.

Perhaps try them ?

here's the thread that Googling "lenovo windows7 intermittent beeping" gave me : http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/T61-Beeping/m-p/140303;jsessionid=888EAAA2DCF82210917F86C7D0372494

You see, now you gave her exactly what she wanted, an answer. What kind of a computer guru are you anyway!?!

And the reason I posted here is that after a day, there are no answers in the Lenovo forum, and 3 here. Admittedly two are entertaining, but it beats nothing :D
But I've gotten hold of the vendor, too, and htat's likely to be a good source.

First, congrats on the Lenovo. What kind did you get?

About the beeping, try going to your control panel and clicking on "Personalization". Along the bottom, there should be a "Sounds" icon, which is the profile settings for beeps/whistles/bangs, etc...

I had about a half-day of frustration with Win7. Since then, it's been computing heaven. ;)

So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh

Got a W700; desktop replacement. And it turns out there's a Ricoh card reader device (I'm old enough to think of something entirely different when I hear "card reader" :D) keeps connecting and disconnecting itself. And it's not always "connect/disconnect" sometimes there are two connects in a row or vice versa.

So I"m farther than I was. But right now I'm reading and making bread.
