Probably a grade 5 tear of the anterior cruciate ligament.

Immobilize it for 3days as well as icing it until you cannot stand it, use ibuprofen for anti inflammatory.

No alcohol, try not to hurt the other leg too unless you want to walk like some of us.

HONEY, Steve - you reading this... guess you'll be doing the housework on your own this weekend. ;) I'll be happy to supervise you cutting the hole in the wall!

Oh dear GOD!

If you do - have the number for 911 plugged in and be ready to hit send.

If you trust the internet for diagnosis more than you trust your doctor, then it is time to get a new doctor.

She's asking if anyone else has had a similar experience. I don't think that implies that she trusts the Internet more than she trusts her doctor.

ACK :o no bueno!

I am taking you serious, sorry if it sounds otherwise... I have actually had prior injuries to this same knee (snowboarding/boating accidents). Today's fall may have pushed me over the edge and force me to finally see the ortho.

BLECH :P

Hi,
W'dSkydiver is right. You should follow R.I.C.E (Rest/Ice/Compression/Elevation) for this. You should also take 600-800mg of Ibuprofen, three times a day. When your Ortho gets back from his vacation. He'll put you up on a table, & push/pull on your knee in certain ways. He'll be able to quickly isolate any instability, & tell you more. If your leg is giving out on you? It does sound like you tore a ligament. If the tear isn't too bad. You may be able to get by without surgery. On the bright side. You get out of doing any housework this weekend. R.I.C.E & Ibuprofen is the standard initial treatment for these types of injuries. I wish you the best of luck w/this. Now, put the butter on your skin before you get the hose again...

;)

So, I fell down the stairs this morning, felt the knee twinge, no throbbing or shooting pain, but upon trying to stand it completely gave under me.

I can walk (mostly) without any discomfort, however if I try to stand / sit / step up or down - knee gives, and there is pain. The pain subsides quickly though.

Anyone ever experience this... :S

g

I watch House all the time -

so I'd say that it's likely the maniscus and it will heal on it's own.

Do not burden the system with your pathetic minor injuries.

you know I luv ya:)

It is meniscus not maniscus..unless it was man-is-cause of her fall...:P

and it does not heal on its own...[:/]

Maniscus is the singular form of meniscus - two knees, two MENiscuses>:(

LOL

Did plenty of RICE, but after two weeks minimal improvement... met with the Dr. on Tuesday, x-ray shows arthritis (from previous injuries), MRI tonight. :P

Looking forward to my rave in a cave!

Hope you all have a fantabulous weekend! B|

Did you go to an Ortho, or a regular GP? It sounds like you went to a GP. An Ortho Doc will tell you right then & there if there is any instability in your knee. An MRI will show if anything is torn. MRIs don't always see everything. I've never seen one of a knee. I hope everything goes well for you.
