In fact, all the gear I bought this year I could afford because of what I made speculating bitcoin.

Well earlier this year, the market swings followed laughably predictable patterns. The exchange rate has stabilized quite a bit recently, though.

seems alllllllot of people are claiming these guys are a scam? have you used it with success? how long did it take for you to recieve your bitcoins?

Coinbase is legit, if you want to buy directly.
If you want to buy on an open exchange, use mtgox.

I have never used the site, but I like the idea behind localbitcoins.com. It keeps with the spirit of the P2P aspect of bitcoin. Pretty difficult to day-trade that way though, if that's what you're into.

You can also find people selling bitcoins on ebay if you really want to use paypal. There are certain pitfalls to making an irreversible bitcoin transaction with a reversible paypal transaction though. There's usually a premium that you'll pay for BTC that's purchased off of a major exchange.
