quade 3 #1 July 22, 2012 About a week ago, Nataly was asking about changing your life. What would you if you could... Well, what if there was another Earth? An Earth from a parallel universe that showed up in ours. What would the people be like? What would the other you be like? You don't have to answer. Anyway, today in my Netflix arrived "Another Earth" by Mike Cahill and Brit Marling. A fantastic little micro-budget independent the two shot (extraordinarily well) over the course of a year and then promptly won a boat load of awards. Check it out. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1549572/combined Trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qB50aBrHbu4 Available on Netflix DVD and Blu-ray (though not streaming). Probably available elsewhere.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
billvon 2,400 #2 July 22, 2012 What if there were a lot of alternatives, easy to reach the similar ones but hard to reach the very different ones? For that scenario I'd recommend "The Long Earth" by Terry Pratchett.

For that scenario I'd recommend "The Long Earth" by Terry Pratchett. It's a concept several have explored. I also like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallels_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation) The "hook" of a story generally isn't what a good scifi story is really about though. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
ryoder 1,384 #4 August 4, 2013 I just rented it. Thumbs up! I loved the last minute, which caught me totally off-guard, and then made you think about what it meant."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. riddler 0 #5 August 6, 2013 Quote Well, what if there was another Earth? Yeah, like any of us would have a say in that. Be the same thing as here - the wealthy would send the poor over there to exploit the planet for every resource until it's dead, then go looking for another one. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. Brit Marling is very quickly becoming my favorite up and coming screenwriter. Everything she's done so far is fantastic. If you liked "Another Earth," also check out "The Sound of My Voice" and "The East." "The Sound of My Voice" is available on Netflix DVD. "The East" is, I think, still in art houses, but comes out on DVD in mid-September.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
