  1. Were you here? Are you still on a high? Then you know what we're talking about when we say Mother Of All Boogies!!!. Or were you one of the unfortunate souls that just couldn't find your way?!! Then I guess it would be the Missed Opportunity At Boogie. (sorry, just couldn't resist that one). Over the past few months, you've probably heard some buzz about a small dz in Moab, Utah, which caters mostly to tandem jumpers and the occasional up-jumper passing through. I'm going to go out on a limb (cliff?) and bet that the little buzz has turned into one great big roar! It certainly has our ears ringing. Skydive Moab, along with Skydive Arizona, really did put on the (dare I say it again), Mother Of All Boogies this past week-end at the Moab Airport. The boogie's success far exceeded our expectations and also the expectations of all who attended! The over-all consensus, from the experienced jumpers, newbies, students, tandems, and even from the curious public, was that it was an awesome, unforgettable 3 days! The weather was even on our side. With glorious blue skies, comforting warm sun, and evening jewels lighting up the skies, there was really no words to do justice to the magnificent, awe-inspiring scenery that surrounded all of us this weekend. The Moab Airport, with its open desert surroundings, is almost surreal for parachuting. We had 140 jumpers come out to the Boogie. About 70 of them were pre-registered! We sold over 1050 tickets and there was a total of 52 loads flown! No injuries to report, only 3 cutaways and 1 destroyed tent! Not bad! Skydive Arizona was also pleased with the overwhelming turn out, sending along both the A100 King Air and Super Otter. This alone added some of the finishing touches and many, many happy loads! Speaking of golden touches, the sun set load into the Red Cliffs Ranch, was by far the highlight of the boogie. Many thanks to Colin Fryer and his staff at the Ranch for helping to ensure a memorable event! Next year everyone, with a 'B' license, will be jumping into a special place. Everyone was in the midst of a high-energy vibe that could not be escaped. This energy was projected from the first excited arrival to the last tearful departure. But what can you do? Do it again next year!!! How could we not? We had to regretfully say "not yet" to the many happy campers who were looking for the 2005 pre-registration forms! How can we ever express our thanks and gratitude to all who made this MOAB Boogie such a wonderful success. We can invite you all to come back! And to those poor unfortunates who missed out, we say kindly, LOL. We know you'll be here next year! A very special thank you is extended to Bryan Burke with Skydive Arizona, event co-ordinator. His expertise was vital for having everything run smoothly. Many thanks to Jay Epstein, TJ Landgren and Redeye for organizing this weekend! Dan Oden (Tweeker), rocks! The pilots from Skydive AZ were fantastic! Perfect spots all weekend long! Last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to all of our Sponsors for their support! Performance Designs, Aerodyne Research, Go Fast Sports, Mirage Systems, Jump Shack, Sunrise Rigging International, Salmon Air, Alt-2, Pier Ltd, Aerostore Corp. and Dive Balm. Lots and lots of warm bear hugs to all staff, volunteers, participants, friends and family. Until next year….See you then!
  2. Skydive Moab opened it's doors in November of 2003. It's a small dz, catering mostly to tandem jumpers and the occasional up-jumper passing through Moab. Despite being a "small time" dropzone (or maybe because of )newbies and experienced jumpers alike, leave with an experience to remember! Skydive Moab offers a family and friends atmosphere and scenery to "jump" for! The landscape also offers unique opportunities that "we think will take the sport to the next level." And now, after less than one year of operations, Skydive Moab is teaming up with Skydive Arizona to hold the Mother of All Boogies (MOAB) on October 1-3. In addition to being a fun acronym, we really want this boogie to live up to its name, we are already planning for it to be an annual event. Skydive Arizona will bring their A100 King Air (or a Super Otter if enough skydivers pre-register) and some additional event staff for organizing and manifesting. What will truly make this event unique are the specialty jumps that will be offered. Not specialty aircraft, but new and exciting landing sites. The MOAB Boogie will offer one of a kind jumping into scenic 1200ft canyons over the Colorado and Green Rivers. The Moab landscape offers amazing opportunities for thrilling cross country and tracking dives, swoops and more. One of the special landing sites will be the Red Cliffs Adventure Lodge and another will be in a popular BASE jumping area. During the three-day boogie, jumping will take place at the Moab Airport (4500ft) with specialty jumps being offered at sunrise and sunset. Throughout the day there will be load organizing for freefly, RW, hybrid and birdman flyers, by TJ Langren from the AZ Training Center, Jay Epstein of Adrenaline Exploits, and others. Performance Designs and Aerodyne Research will both be at the boogie with demo canopies. There will be indoor, air-conditioned packing and a rigger on-site. A local deli will also be on site to keep everyone well fed and we'll also have plenty of Go Fast on hand to keep energy levels high! Saturday evening there will be an outrageous party, which promises to be anything but boring, with a DJ and camping in a remote canyon. There are already plans for a boogie video that will be compiled from everyone's footage, so, "Bring your cameras!" A local adventure production company, BarkingFrog Productions, will put the video together. The proceeds from the video will go towards making the MOAB boogie bigger and better in the years to come, including the addition of a canopy skills camp and a swoop meet. Pre-registration for the 1st Annual MOAB Boogie is available until September 17th at a discounted rate. For more information contact Skydive Moab at 435-259-JUMP or skydivemoab.com
