  1. Evil! They would never get any sleep... or develop right! ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  2. Thank you all for the information.
  3. I did ask him why... he said he would not even touch it. He said the reserves pack funny and I would need to find another rigger if I bought it. He would not go into detail at all, just blew it off. ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  4. Ha ha... I think that is funny, actually. I will ask another rigger then for a second opinion.
  5. Recently I have been offered to purchase a Racer sport rig with everything except the main. I mentioned it to the rigger where I packed and he just cringed. I've been told to STAY AWAY. Why? ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  6. I had my first cutaway this Friday... Hop-n-Pop... then chop. Jump #32 ((Yes, lots of beer to be had... only the free bag is missing, I kept the handles)) Oh, aside from that... I did a lot of new things! 3-ways, 8-way track dive.... just one crazy weekend for little newbie me!!! I loved it! ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  7. Outbreaks like this in a public forum never help anyone, and certainly does not show professionalism if seeking a job within the industry. May I suggest next time that you do not immediately respond, but instead take your time to articulate a response, or if you decide not to respond at all - might be the best option at times. ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  8. I got the Vegas Pro 10 because my home DZ has it there, but I need to know how to use it somewhat before they show me what to do. I don't want to edit videos like a robot (i.e. do exactly as shown but not understand the purpose of what I am doing). My goal was to expand to a larger DZ this next season, but one of the options has fallen through. (If only I had my driver's license AND a car!) Anyways, just trying to be useful around the DZ in more than one way! **Edit: Oops, I did not notice the "Photography and Video" forum! As far as video software goes, I don't really have experience in any program yet, so learning at least this program I think will help me quickly catch onto others.
  9. Not sure if this qualified as Skydiving stuff, so just in case I am posting here! If you edit videos at a drop zone, what is the software that you use? I currently have Vegas Pro 10 that I am self-learning at the moment, possibly interested in a video editing position in my area. Thanks! ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  10. Thanks for the information. Quick clarification, I always gear check myself - it has been ingrained throughout the AFF training I received. (I might be obsessive checking my handles,) Rather be safe than sorry! Again, thanks for the information!
  11. I am a newly licensed skydiver, heck, I have yet to make my first licensed jump... I was just curious how to go about gear checks away from my home DZ and with a load of unknown skydivers... (technically not strangers because we will be getting real close together in the plane ) =========== Are people generally willing to give others a gear check when asked? Or should checking my own gear be sufficient now that I am licensed? OR Do you give people you do not even know a gear check when they ask in the plane? =========== Since it is more of a comfort thing for me, is this something I should figure out before getting on a load, regardless if I am doing a group dive or solo? Thanks for input. (I know, total newb question). P.S. Looking for a ride to Midwest on Sunday to make my first jump... included! ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  12. Popsjumper, I am not into that kind of thing, sorry. If I were, I would have been taken care of a long time ago. I will keep that in mind for future reference, Ron, but I was really looking for others' advice and experience on the topic. I will not quit school to become a packer, but I am willing to make other sacrifices at this time to pack. Bonfire board it is, next time. ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  13. What's a bulp anyways? ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  14. I do not trust myself on a motorcycle because I love SPEED! That is why I found skydiving! (and I still want to go faster! ) ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  15. My focus and priority was to pack this next season to build up an account to purchase my first rig and to attend a canopy piloting camp. If I were to move extremely close to the DZ or on the DZ property, the goal would be to obtain my license sooner! I do own a bike, so if I were able to find a room to rent, that is practical. Thanks for the suggestion! BrokenR1 - I own a bicycle already, but riding 42.5 miles x2 everyday is just not happening! Now if the above was an option to me, I could ride my bike to the DZ from the closer location. ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  16. That is NOT my intention, what-so-ever! Sad thing is, I might have to take a summer off from jumping! x1000 I am considering getting my bartender license for this summer (aside from the full-time babysitting and house cleaning I do) to save up money to get a car. I just really don't enjoy bar drunks. Plus, I know it will be hard to find a local place that would be hiring only during the summer... but it is not like I would request Friday's or the weekend, I would try to still save those for DZ time! {decisions, decisions} ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  17. I was offered to pack at a larger DZ than my home DZ for next season, however, I found out that it only offers full-time positions and transportation is a must. I do not own a car and I would be required to reinstate my driver's license in order to drive, on a college student budget. (This option is not likely to happen this coming summer). The position is only a full-time position... has anyone had the experience of being offered a full-time packing job to find themselves a few weeks later not doing anything at all? Thanks. I will consider all advice given and take in all feedback on the topic. ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  18. After touching ground from my first tandem! I knew then that this was the best thing I had ever done in my life and that I needed to do it again, and again, and again! I had to drag my friends and family into it too! I had a great instructor (Dan Flinton) who was full of energy and very enthusiastic! The whole idea didn't quite sink in until that door opened... and by then, I was thinking, "oh shit, I'm really doing this.. lets do this!" After my first tandem, I finally convinced some friends to do a tandem when I did my 2nd tandem, I got to do backflips off of the strut. A couple of the friends from the group absolutely had to go a 2nd time in the same day because they wanted to do backloops too! One of the friends I took with is already B-licensed! (I don't have the money like he does to put into the sport, so I have to gradually progress). People call me his skydiving wife. I have successfully taken my mother and older brother twice too! They loved it, but they will only stick to tandems. Not me! I need that sense of freedom, that feeling of being alive, and my way of relieving stress from school! Gee, I think I got carried away here... sorry about that! ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  19. I am pretty sure this is what I will be packing next season... I was told it closes the same as a Javelin. I might watch pack jobs anyways to see what I pick up. I definitely want to learn the psycho pack, but not very many people do it. P.S. I have packed the student rigs too, which is a Javelin, and learned how to pro pack a sport rig. As a student, I was checked off early in my AFF program for packing. ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver

  21. Thanks for the information and suggestion, but I have to absolutely fly back home on April 1 at the latest! I like the sound of free seminars, but this just does not fit my schedule. Too bad it was not a week earlier! ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  22. As per “Choosing the Right Canopy, Part 2” – Cells, Shapes, and skins: Zero-P CONS: Higher pack volume more difficult to pack PROS: Last longer than low-porosity fabric (like the F-111), more efficient wings, better performance Choosing the Right Canopy by Scott Miller ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  23. I just can't wait to jump from a SKYVAN!!!! I get to jump from one, right??? This site says Z-Hills has one... I am looking forward to that! I like crazy... I've been told I am crazy, but I just don't see it. I would like to return home with my jump count at 50 (or higher, if I can somehow pull that off). I know a few instructors up here that go to Z-Hills in our off-season, but I think by the time my Spring Break comes around, they will have returned! I doubt I could, but if I was offered to pack tandems, I know I could pull off more jumps! That would also depend if the DZ uses hooks for their tandems. (I have experience packing racer tandem rigs). This would be best if the wind is too turbulent for me to jump, but tandems can still be done. Anyways, I am trying to gather as much information as possible to make my trip as enjoyable as possible, safe as possible, and within budget! I just would like to really pull off this Spring Break - I sacrificed my Spring Break last year to be able to do Florida this year, I think I can find a way to make it happen. I'm such a dork that I have used google maps to scope out the aerials of the drop zones! ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
  24. Greetings! I was wondering what is the going rate for wind tunnel time? What if I am traveling alone for my trip... do they require groups? Also, could anyone tell me between DeLand, Skydive Sebastian, and Skydive City/Z-Hills if they have a wind tunnel? I checked their websites and didn't see information, but someone told me that Z-Hills has one. Thanks ahead of time! ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver
