Very good article. Now he just needs to be woken up to the fact that the Controlled Substance Act is itself illegal... the Federal government has no such power under the Constitution without amendment; but states do.

Just saw this on FB a few hours ago. Good read.

  2. All the cool fun stuff requires a solid foundation if you want to go anywhere with it. Build your base skills. Getting into the habit of trying things when no one is looking is bad mojo. It'll catch up to you sooner or later, and not necessarily a simple, "Hey, don't do that."

  3. When I had a PIC (jump 31), I initially thought it was a bag lock. I was obviously really new, and all I really knew in that split second was that I tossed my chute and nothing was happening at all. I looked as best I could for a split second and saw "something" (PC, obviously) and assumed that was the bag. So I did a peel, pull, punch and landed only then to find out that I had a PIC. From then on, Every time I pitch, I look over my shoulder and wait to see that bag come off my back so I know exactly what I've got over my head. Once I see the bag, I return to a normal head position.

Placebo effect . . . sure, but it ain't gonna regrow a limb or anything actually serious.

How do you know? Have you personally looked at every case throughout history? Of course not. While it may not be likely that such a thing will occur, it doesn't mean it will never or has never.

Besides, I can't really think of one religion out there where God/gods are more concerned about a lost limb than some intrinsic factor with people. Only the shallow think prayer is suppose to be a smorgas board of wish fulfillment.

Here's a new one to me....

    Quote

CASTLE ROCK - Retired Marine Art Dorsch says his Second Amendment rights are in danger.

His apartment complex, the Oakwood Apartments in Castle Rock, sent out a notice telling all residents to get rid of their guns.

The 77-year-old retired US Marine Corps veteran sent a newstip to 9Wants to Know saying he's afraid he'll be homeless if he doesn't comply.

The letter went out to residents on August 1 and says they have until October 1 to comply with updated "community policies."

On page 2 is a brand new provision saying "firearms and weapons are prohibited."

"It upsets me very much," Dorsch said.

As of October 1, residents cannot display, use, or possess any firearms or weapons of any kind, anywhere on the property.

"I'm a hunter. I'm a licensed conceal and carry person," Dorsch said.

Dorsch says the guns, which he keeps securely locked in a safe, make him feel secure in his home.

"They want to take them all away from me. They say I can't live here," he said.

Dorsh says apartment managers told him to give up the guns and stay, give notice and move out voluntarily, or be forced to move out if he doesn't comply with the new policy.

Nobody answered the door at the apartment office on Tuesday afternoon.

When reached by phone, Brooke Young, Ross Management Group regional manager, said "It's our policy not to comment to the news media," before hanging up.

"The best thing this tenant can do is either move out or get rid of the guns," 9NEWS legal analyst Scott Robinson said.

Robinson says, in most cases, courts have supported the rights of landlords to impose "reasonable regulations" on tenants.

"The question is: is an outright ban of firearms reasonable in light of the US Constitution?" Robinson said.

Dorsch says the issue goes beyond the Second Amendment.

"I'm vulnerable. I'm not safe," Dorsch said.

If he loses his guns, Dorsch says he loses so much more.

"My freedom," Dorsch said. "Yeah it's emotional. Because I don't think it's fair."

Dorsch says he barely has enough money to live, never mind hire a lawyer.

So, if he's not able to fight the new rules, he says he'll have no choice but to leave his guns with a friend who lives 30 miles away.

He hopes he'll still be able to go hunting, as he has every year since 1953.

From an external perspective, Obama doesn't get close to how bad Bush was. It's all opinion.

Hows that? More wars, more secrets, more scandals, more spending, less jobs, etc. under O than B.

When the jump was prepping, the AFFI told him to fly a pattern that, at the time, would have been a downwinder. The student pointed out the chart AND noted the winds by observation.
The AFFI says, "I don't go by the4m charts. I don't even know how to read it."
Student says, "Let me show you. These numbers right here mean....."

    True story.

How on earth does someone like that get a rating AND keep it?

    AHA!
Because knowledge is not a requirement for an AFF rating.

    Requirements:
Fly and properly regurgitate two ISP category ground preps as only that AFFCD wants.

But you already knew all that...
I can begrudgingly see how you could get by the tests and what not, but once at the DZ, it baffles me that someone in charge wouldn't know (or be informed of the fact) that one of their AFFIs that's suppose to be teaching first time jumpers can't even read the wind chart.

If you knew for sure that your next jump would be your last (i.e. fatal accident) would you jump? And if so, when?

No. There is life off of a DZ. I am not suicidal, and that is what your request would require.

    This.

How close to death is enough to feel like you almost died? How much do you want to scare people from making these points? Are we better people for berating others' choice of words? You're a community. One I hoped to be part of. Lets work together and try to embrace each other instead of just focusing on making a point to the OP

That would do it for, "How close to death is enough to feel like you almost died?". That guy with a loose cheststrap, had he not had an AAD, would be a pancake right now.

Catching a gear error on someone before they even board the plane is closer to "normal" than it is to "almost died." Hell, I must have saved a few student lives by now if all I had to do to "save" them was to say, "Hey...what about this?" ;)

  12. What actions exactly did he take that made him a vigilante? As far as I can tell, GZ never once summarily decided to punish TM.

  13. I see what you're saying, and I've thought similar things before, but I was being quite simplistic in my comment. It wasn't the Republicans that were staunchly opposed to women being granted the right to vote when it passed, it was the Democrats (same thing with civil rights as well).

Not exactly sure the Replublican party has the moral high ground when it comes to respecting women. Especially if you consider women's rights.

Oh, you mean like the right to vote? Oh wait...
