It's interesting that most jumpers who've responded are sitting around the 1.3 mark.

My intuition tells me this is on the slightly conservative side, as most jumpers around me seem to be on 120-135 canopies.

At my little DZ, at least, students aside, you'd be correct.

By the way the definition of a sport is If you can do it with a sandwich in your hand it ain't a sport.

I can play soccer with a sandwich in my hand.

I'm loaded 1.3+ and can penetrate in as high of winds as I want to jump in. If I'm backing up, I'm sitting out the next one. ;)

Pretty much this. Loaded at a 1.3 here and have no intentions of going past that.

  4. I stuck my analog on a chest mount for when I'm in my wingsuit, but I'm looking at getting something else for my hand / wrist. I like having something there when I'm flying belly as its a faster check. Part of me is leaning to an altitrack, as I do like how fast the clock face processes, brain wise, and I really like knowing what my minimum speed was as I work on my fall rate as well as a detailed logbook. That being said, I'm also thinking about something like a Viso II to use to get to know my canopy's characteristics better. I'm not sure, however, if the Viso II I can pull the minimum speed off of, and I'm not sure how helpful it (or another digital) would really be as I have no real interest in swooping.

Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

    ***The fun starts Monday!

So the 6 person jury is all women.
Very rare from what they're saying.

    He's cooked.

There is no way the prosecution is going to be able to prove 2nd degree murder.

However, with only women on the jury the prosecution is going to be tuggin those heart strings and playing to their emotions about this poor woman that lost her little boy in a tragic shooting that never should have happened if it wasn't for this man sitting over here.

That emotional play is going to get them a conviction regardless of the evidence presented in the trial.

I know plenty of women in FL that would acquit GZ without second thought.

I'm not a "Liberal Deocrat" but I watched it and can report to the rest non-right wing cheerleaders that's it's a load of crap. He discusses how the Republican party was founded as a abolitionist movement, how Lincoln was a Republican, and how Eisenhower championed the Civil Rights Act of 1957. He conveniently ignores Republican history after that. He spends the last three minutes regurgitating Republican platitudes that bear no resemblance to how the GOP actually governs.

It's regular Republican speechaking, only unusual because the speaker is black.

And what republican history did he ignore that you are in reference to again?

Well, I'm presuming he's still going to be coached and they wouldn't just throw him out at 3.5k without some additional skills... :)

Well, yes. We hope so. You'd be surprised how many AFFIs, Coaches and local yahoos want to, and do, let them, and tell them, to do just that.

I hope you don't think I'm making this up as I go, do you?

I find it disturbing that you're not :o

What it does change is how quickly your are going to meet the planet. Fairly important, I suppose. Didn’t I mention Time Distortion? Do you have an idea how many have gone in thinking they had “time”?

    D-dog mentioned Hop & Pops.

    Suggestion:
Before you start on H&Ps, practice stable exits from altitude until you have the confidence AND the skill to exit stable at low altitude.

The last thing you want to do is tumble, spin and flip on exit at low altitude.

The purpose behind doing the H&Ps for your A license is two-fold:
    - acclimate you to low exits
    - prepare you for emergency bail-outs

Well, I did it. After four consecutive weekends of AFF jumps, I've been signed off for solo jumping and I couldn't be more excited!

I know that I still have a lot of skills to develop and tons of shit to learn, but I couldn't feel more accomplished. I had a really rough level 3 that had to be repeated and I started to worry that I wouldn't be able to make myself get back in the plane after that. Once I pushed those feelings aside and just focused on doing what I needed to do, my remaining jumps just got better and better as I went.

I can't even describe the feeling I had during my grad jump. The diving exit and two clean backflips felt so natural and smooth. I don't even know what I was so worried about.

I really appreciate how supportive and knowledgeable everyone on this forum is. Reading about the troubles of other students and seeing the helpful replies really helped me get my head into the right place when I started to doubt myself.

For anyone else who is going through a student program or thinking about starting one, allow me to relay these words from one of my AFF instructors: "One bad jump is no big deal."

It may seem obvious, but it really helped me a lot.

    Thanks.

    Congrats!

Now its on to the evil, 3.5k hop and pop! /maniacal laugh

Any chance this will be making a return? I want more time in the tunnel, and this sounds like a great deal.

    Seconded!

Had I know about this before, I'd have been there for sure.

    Hi guys,

I am new to the forum and new to the Skydiving.
I took AFF course and already did my first three jumps. Prior to my first jump I of course was scarred, but figured as soon as I jump once I will have no more fear of jumping from the plane. Oh boy was I wrong. My second and third jump was just as scary on the way up and most of all when that dam door rolls up and it is my turn to walk to the door. Once I exit the plane I love it, the rush of the air the feeling of peace when canopy opens. However, climbing to the 13K feet in the plane and that open door to which I have to walk to really gives me jitters.
I understand and tell myself its fun and that you've done it couple of times already, but I guess something on much more primeval level disagree with my comments and make me think before every jump if I want to do it or not. Moreover, when I am on the plane I look around and here and there spot nervousness (shaky hands, gulping eyes, sweating) on the people who I thought should not really have it anymore.

I know this subject been discussed here before. However, I just wonder when some of you stopped having these jitters and how you battle them?

Believe it or not, your body will always react the same whether you have one jump or a thousand. There was a recent study in Physiology & Behavior that measured stress hormones before and after groups of novice jumpers (first jump) and experienced jumpers (I want to say the mean was 300-400 jumps). Body stress levels were always the same. What changes, it seems, is how we handle that stress. So while your mind will eventually fear the door less and less, your body is still pumped up like no tomorrow :)

Anyway, what really did it for me to help relax was passing the frontloops and barrel rolls jump. Once I realized I could get back on my belly without trouble or anyone holding on to me, I felt a lot better. From there, worry about jumps got less and less (until that blasted 3.5k hop and pop. I swear I could hear the cows moo).

    ***Those are anecdotes, not statistics.
Many them of them describe incidents where there is no evidence they were caused by the camera, the jumper just happened to have had a camera.
Many of them are totally ridiculous non-events, like forgetting goggles. Who cares, I've jumped without goggles before, just a little more wind in the eyes. ;)

If you want to make a solid case, cut those down to real incidents (ie AAD fires, injuries, or deaths, not "omg I forgot my goggles!"), only those which were clearly caused by the camera, and then figure out the percentage of total incidents it comprises. I guarantee that percentage will be very low if not negligible.

I can't decide if you actually believe the garbage you are posting or if you are a troll (FWIW, trolling is the posting of materiel deliberately intended to provoke a response).

Hopefully the mods will do something about people like you who falsely accuse others of trolling simply because they disagree with you on a particular topic. Slander is one thing that shouldn't be allowed on this forum.

You said you were a troll. You act like a troll. Your posts reek of troll. Ergo, you are a troll. Your troll sauce is weak. You over play your hand far too quick to effectively reel people in.

And btw, it's not slander when it's written. It's libel. ;)

It's just awesome when a troll can hijack my thread and completely dismiss the point I was trying to make.

The mods here must be way too busy.

This is my first and last time trying to get any information from this site.

    Enjoy your troll playground everybody.

Trolls are a part of every internet site. It would be nice if mods did something about this troll, especially given the serious nature of this particular forum. But in the end, its best to ignore him and just respond to posters looking for an actual discussion.
