  1. I don't know how I got that shifted around to after he was released, and of course there was no "earlier release." He wrote about being interviewed in the Stennis hearings in 1964. I'd elaborate but I suspect that wikipedia could do a better job of it, and definitely beats my memory. Bob
  2. I am definitely no time-line expect on the Vietnam War; but are you sure that Joe K was released while LBJ was in office? I thought the POWs were only released after the agreements that came out of the discussions in Paris, when Nixon was in office. Jerry Baumchen It kind of twisted my head around at first, but this was Operation Homecoming that took place during the Paris Peace Accords. This, I see reading up on it, was also when McCain was released. After seeing it in Kittinger's book then looking it up I have vague memories of watching it on TV. I remember how amazed everyone was at the condition most of the men were in, or at least the impression they were determined to give. People were basically waiting with wheel chairs and crutches but the POWs marched from the planes and saluted while standing at attention. That's the part I remember seeing. Edit: wait, now I know what's been bugging me about that. You're right, that's too late in the Vietnam War. I'll go dig that book out.
  3. A black man who warned the world that the danger to black men was from police dies when a fellow black man takes advantage of the absence of police in the area to shoot and kill him. Other than that, nothing to see here.
  4. About Johnson, he could have been remembered as a great President if it weren't for that one mistake. But it was a big one. And it wasn't just Generals. In 'Come up and Get Me' Kittinger tells how after he was released from the Hanoi Hilton he was a group of officers who were asked to meet with Johnson and advice him about Vietnam. Escalate or get out. They all said get out and explained why. So he not only had the advice but could have used them as part of his reason. But no. He always had an ego problem, his seat on Air Force One was turned around and elevated so everyone would be looking up at him. But if he'd have just listened and got out I think he'd be remember as a good, maybe even great, President.
  5. Go ahead and keep twisting reality like a balloon animal. It won't stop the slaughter. Or does it matter, since all the blood shed involves young black men? As the father of a young black man I think I have a pretty decent grasp on the reality he faces. Well, that's that then.
  6. You know, I should have checked this first. Is this where we start pretending that Michael Brown was a martyr?
  7. Just keep twisting shit around. I know how I feel, and if other people are interested they can just read what I wrote.
  8. I think it's culture not race, at least in the US. I see a lot of the same attitude and violence among young people here in Appalachia who have absolutely nothing to lose. About the time the black community was becoming solidly middle class we sold the middle class out by sending all their jobs overseas. Desperate people do desperate things. And those things might not seem related to the underlying problems, like lack of jobs causing black youth and hillbillies to run around with guns and kill each other, but it creates this chaos where basically "why not?" When I was growing up I had no respect for authority but I still reigned in my bad behavior because I didn't want to lose my future of a job and home. Take those way and what limits does a young person have?
  9. Out of interest. In a hypothetical world if the constitution was legally changed, and a law enacted requiring people to give up all guns by a certain date, would you follow it? If someone actually came to forcibly and legally collect your guns what would you do? Why do you assume I own any guns? Just a guess based on how you've framed your anti-gun restriction arguments in the past. It might well be wrong. Do you? I don't like guns. They make things happen too quickly. I don't want, or have, any in my home, car etc. But that's not the same as recognizing the reality of the situation.
  10. ""I did! top " My first stack was me under a Paracommander and Gary Westmoreland under a Cloud Delta. I couldn't start any earlier because we weren't doing it yet. Ok, I'll stop. I just couldn't help myself. Sorry for the off topic post. No more, I promise.
  11. And for those who don't know but could easily read the wrong message from some of the responses to my post. Black Lives Matter activist Muhiyidin Moye was not killed by a police officer. His killer was just another black guy with a gun.

  13. I can't help but wonder about the true reasoning of ignoring the reality of why so many young black men are being killed.

  15. Ok, sure. We continue our strategy of saving black lives by blaming it on something less uncomfortable than the real cause of their deaths. After all, that's been working so well so far, hasn't it?
  16. He dedicated his life to convincing white people that black lives matter, but was shot, as are the overwhelming majority of black shooting victims, by a black man. How dare those uppity guys say something right.... Like what? I have no idea what you're saying. Young black men are being slaughtered on a daily basis by other young black men. No amount of denial, no amount of pointing to the occasional killing of a black man or woman by a white person will change the fact that for a huge number of young black men the last thing they will ever see is another young black man with a gun in his hand. Ignoring this very uncomfortable fact won't stop the funerals.
  17. I'm not a rigger but I've jumped a lot of older gear, and I've always jumped at places where the Ken and Barbie type who replace their rigs every couple of years are very rare. I remember in the early 80s when a five year old rig looked old. Gear was changing so rapidly then. Now a lot of it has stabilized. I have a Quasar 2 and Stellar 7 that was built in 1996 and still seems new to me. If you sat it next to a new one I'm not sure there's be enough difference to tell them apart, especially since Strong has been really good about taking care of it. I send it to them every few years for maintenance. My first cutaway on this gear was in 2015 and it worked perfectly. Send the rig in to Sun Path to go over then pack. If it's not airworthy they won't sign off on it.
  18. Pilot and co-pilot of an Iraqi airline at 37k get into it and have to be separated. I'm not going to say anything. Nothing. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/pilots-fight-in-the-air-on-iraqi-airways-flight/#amp_tf=From%20%251$s
  19. "We’re going to gather up ALL of your guns" That part could get interesting.
  20. He dedicated his life to convincing white people that black lives matter, but was shot, as are the overwhelming majority of black shooting victims, by a black man.
  21. Some of the large grocery stores, like Meijers, have started selling it around here. This could get interesting though at $1.89 a pound I doubt most people will be putting enough in their coolers to be deadly. But you never know.
  22. So it does sound legal, thanks.
  23. Forgetting for a moment that this is about Trump, let's just say "A random unnamed President" is what Cohen has done anywhere near legal? Can an attorney record meetings with a client, without the client knowing, then later distribute them? I'm not asking about the morality of it, for obvious reasons, but it just doesn't seem legal, or at least it seems like it should get Cohen disbarred. Unless of course he already has been. I just can't bring myself to watch this farce closely.
  24. I think this is overstated right now. Look at the latest quarterlies. Facebook is not "done" yet. (Much as I would like it to be so.) And while Facebook it the company name connected to most of the stuff that's upsetting people most of them realize that it's part of the territory.
