  1. Anybody else interested in this? Not looking that way right now, but let me know if a few of you are and I'll see what else I can work out. Z
  2. argh. won't let me attach the word doc of prices he sent me...... so here u go. Thanks for the interest. Joe Myeress Cord Camera E-Commerce Sales Manager sorry i couldn't attach the origional... maybe i can work somethiing out with the dz. com guys to post it somewhere. skies Z
  3. Here is the price list he sent me. The 4 pack price is on there... but I'd go with the bulk film. Much better cost, and it's the same film, it just comes in a white box instead of the green display 4 packs. If you order, make sure to say that you are with the Dropzone group (he came up with that, not me, and it's not affiliated with this webpage). Let me know how things work out. Z
  4. I'm still trying to iron out the fine details of this deal, but I wanted to know if any of you guys would be interested in this: Fuji film, sold in bulk for low cost. For example, 200 spd. 1.12 per roll at 40 rolls, 1.02 at 80 rolls 93 cents at 200 rolls, and 86 cents at 400 rolls. All of the camera guys at my DZ pitched in and got almost 500 rolls from these guys for less than 85 cents per roll delivered. It's the same film they sell at Walmart for 5 bucks a 4 pack, and in any other store for 9 bucks per 4 pack. The catch is to make it worth it you have to buy bulk. Shipping is cheap, 10 bucks for 200 rolls. and less for less film (go figure). There is no point in me working this deal if nobody is interested..... So if you are let me know. You will be buying directly from the supplier, and no, I don't make any money off of this. The film we got last month was good stuff, and brand new (exp. 9-03). If you guys burn a lot of 35mm film for tandems etc..... this might be worth your time. let me know Z
  5. Video or stills costs 59 bucks where i work, vid and stills costs 21 more. If I blow the vid, or the stills, then they get their 21 bucks back. If I blow both, or they only get one and I blow it, then I eat the jump. Why should they have to pay for my skydive when I fucked up? Can't charge someone for a product they don't get. If I take pics of your wedding, and they don't turn out, are you going to pay for my film and time when u get nothing? sure hope not Cost of doing business Z
  6. Lose the .au on the link to get there. No offense to the last poster... but I wasn't very impressed with what I found in there. An Ondicator? 40 bucks US for a Lanc plug in on LED.... for 10 more u can get a CAM Eye 2 that tells u 6 different functions...and some of those helmets looked....well like snag machines, and high $ snag machines at that. Go BoneHead and never look back. Z
  7. The Z1 is a great RW bucket, and I love mine...but I don't think it would be a good choice for camera for a lot of reasons. Not very sturdy (remember, your head is your tripod, u want to be "clamped" in) and also it is very thin...not much epoxy and fiber glass in it. I don't know that it would be a good place to mount a camera to and not worry about it breaking off or damaging the helmet. who knows z
  8. I've seen a few of posts on here in the past few weeks about putting high speed 35mm cameras on their heads for their first set up. There seems to be a myth in the world of cameras that the more you pay for a camera, the better pictures it will give you. A camera is just a film box...that's it. You can spend a lot of money on a nice camera, but you are paying for bells and buzzers, not for better quality pictures. I own a Eos rebel XS (older model SLR, pre Rebel G) and I also own an Elan 7E (a high dollar new camera). The 7E is a GREAT camera, and does all sorts of shit that the XS just can't. It has eye controled focus (look at where u want to fucus, and presto, it focuses), it has twice as fast max shutter speed (1/4000), apature preview, has 2 wheels instead of one to mess with functions, it can do a 2nd curtin flash sync, it can leave the tag of the film back out when I rewind to make it easy when I develop my own, has a more advanced metering system etc. etc. etc. For skydiving will the 7 E give me better pictures? NO NO NO NO NO!!! 99 percent of what I do skydiving..hell 99.95percent just doesn't need any of the extra fetures or buzzers the 7 E offers. The XS is is great shape, mirror is great, I have a bad ass lense for it...and use good film. The camera JUST holds the film to let u expose it to light. There is no magic in the camera body of the 7E that the XS doesnt have. The 7 E costs 5 times as much ,and weighs 3 times as much. Which camera do u think I skydive with? If you want good pic's: Do your part and be where u need to be. Have good glass (lens) Use good film if you can (at least average) Have a basic understanding of exposure. Spend the money you save by buying a rebel 2000 or G over a 7E on Jumps, film, and a good lens. my 2 cents Z
  9. The focus on that pic was set at infinity. I also forgot to mentino that I used a flash in that photo. I leaned a lot about getting good daytime lightning pics on that roll of film!!! I got lucky by getting that one to turn out so well.
  10. Allright, this is a non jump pic, but I think it's pretty cool Sorry about the quality, my scanner is down, so this is just a digital still taken with my PC5 of the print itself....lighting sucks too..hehe, the half moon dark spot is my wid angle lense shadow. Self portriat 35mm (28-80 tamronn) 30 second exposure, at 4.0 on nFuj 100 Superia
  11. For things that matter, make sure to take it to a good place. However, sometiems good places are hidden. For example: the sub 3 buck 3 by 5's I get from Wally World are send off's (5 days). Have you ever wondered where they send the "send off's" to? The walmart I use (not sure if they all do) sends their film to Fuji to be done. Other labs will send them to Kodak. ASK the people that work there what lab they use (My local Kroger uses some lab I've never heard of). Wolf, Ritz and all of the custom guys do great work and will make sure you get what you want. But if you want high quality work at low cost (and don't mind not getting them in an hour), finding a lab that sends them into a place like Kodak of Fuji is a great way to go.
  12. Well, you are about to get more info from more camera guys that you hoped for, but with everything: read it all and make your own decisions. I shoot Canon cameras for skydiving, and most of the time I shoot 200 speed film (Dusk or real low light I'll shoot 400 or even 800). Now, I can do this because I DON"T shoot on sports mode. Sports mode gives a real fast shutter speed to capture fast action...skydivers fall at 100-200+mph so its fast right? WRONG! Nothing is fast in freefall photos cuz we are moving at the same speed as one aonther. You don't need a 1/1000 or 1/1500th of a sec speed in freefall (great for stoping props, baseball shots, moving bikes etc.). You will get great shots with shutter speeds as slow as 1/60th or so and will only see some speed (blurr) in baggy jumpsuits. 1/250th or so will totally stop all fluttering (so will 1/125 most of the time). So I shoot ™ of my footage on P (program, same as full auto but doesn't use flash on Canon). This gives me the longest range of what I can get away with and insure sellable product. Light changes in freefall. You get below a cloud layer, it's brighter up top on sunset loads and dawn loads than it is down low. Your subject may or may not face into the sun. Some guys set it at manual at like 8.0 and 1/500th. Most of the time you can get away with this, but if your light changes, you can't change it in freefall. P setting will set your apt. and shutterspeed for you, and I have NEVER lost a roll of stills on this setting. On the climb to altitude, stick your camera out the window once in a while and push your shutter half way down to see what it asks for (on P) or what your exposure is on another setting. You might be surprised how much in changes durring the ride up just based on alt. and what direction you point your camera. For best depth of field I use a 28mm fixed (not zoom) set to infinity (clear from about 2 feet all the way out to never never land....even moreso on bright days when my apt. is smaller). Photography isn't rocket science. there are TONS of settings that will work. I like P because it gieve me the most latitude and best chance of having sellable product. Try things out. Play. Buy cheap film and get it developed at WallMart for 2.50 for 3 by 5's and see what you are doing. I hope this helps blue ones Z PS. think i got some BAD ASS pics of the lightning storm last night....will post if they come out well
  13. just so you know. search www.mysimon.com for Sony DCR PC9 and, then list by price. Even with shipping you can get one for under a grand. It's a bad ass little camera, has the size and weight of a PC5 (1 lb), and the same bat (Mseries) as the PC 100 series (think the 110 has the same bat too). If I was looking...that's what I'd get, and that is probably what will replace my PC5 when it gets old (or i feel the need for a new toy). Z
  14. I did these in 5 mins. real brash, but just to show u a little of what can be done. again, i only spet a few mins on this. this is the real one first, then the photoshop version.
  15. 2 most easy ways to get dark blue skies with print film: Polarizer with the proper set up (takes more than just putting the filter on, but I assume u know that. Second way...... Adobe Photo Shop. Don't think the big dogs dont use it!!! I might post back and show u an example Z
  16. If you want a camers that: lasts, will fit your wide angle lenses, will fit in your roll cage/D-box, can use a remote like the Cam eye...... Well, if you want a real skydiving camera..... S O N Y
  17. Danny Boy: this is from the thread that annoucnced this whole thing: >
  18. So, what do you guys think? There are some REALLY cool pics in there now. What do you like, not like? What is your favorite? I think I like the one with the golden Knights doing flameing shots.... A: it's the only one that is not taken on a DZ, and B.... I was there when Douva took that picture! Some of the pond/ocean surfing pics look really good too. blue skies Z
