  1. More Taft love from The Fall Guy: http://www.hulu.com/watch/26561/the-fall-guy-charlie It is fun to see the sport in a positive light. Must thank everyone who worked for the show. 4. I'm having trouble finding images from the @-sign dive from the 1997 World Freefall Convention (WFFC). Jack Cunniff organized it and got jumpers from around rec.skydiving. The images at http://www.freefall.com/images/reviews/at_sign97.html don't seem to be loading and even the Wayback Machine (www.archive.org) images don't load for me. If anyone has copies can you post them or e-mail them to me? Thanks! Man, has it been so long since that dive? I remember spending hours in the computer lab reading through rec.skydiving. It was one of the attempt dives that I lost my Alti-V. I packed it in my Sabre-150. Jack got me hooked up with an FT-150 that I still use. That was back when WFFC was still in Quincy. 5. I thought that looked like Taft. I jumped there the summer of 1996 and the landscape was awfully familiar. Packin' Jack 42nd Lost Prairie: The Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe, and Skydiving 25 Jul - 3 Aug 2009 2007 photos: http://www.skydive.com/prairie/pages/prairie.htm
  6. We all like to see skydiving stunts on TV. Well, if you missed Season 1, Episode 1 of The Fall Guy, then you probably missed the 5 minute freefall in the opening sequence. Not wo worry, you can catch it all on Hulu.com: http://www.hulu.com/watch/26551/the-fall-guy-the-meek-shall-inherit-rhonda#in-playlist Packin' Jack 42nd Lost Prairie: The Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe, and Skydiving 25 Jul - 3 Aug 2009 2007 photos: http://www.skydive.com/prairie/pages/prairie.htm
  7. And I'm digging it up again. It appears that JumpRun is still available. There are a few others on the Software Resources page. I too am interested to know if there have been updates in this area. Are there DZs or clubs still looking for this type of software? Are the existing tools meeting the needs of the DZs using them? What are the holes or missing features that aren't being taken care of with existing options? 8. Rob, You'll be dearly missed. I remember shortly after arriving in Montana in 1997 I got an e-mail from Fred. He was going to be doing tandems in Helena, which was much closer to Great Falls than Kalispell was. I headed out there and we jumped all day landing on the blue tarp on one edge of the airport. That was the day that I met Rob. It was a great day ended at a great bar. Here's to Rob. Beer Cupcakes

http://www.bigcitylittlekitchen.com/2007/07/06/beer-cupcakes/ Okay, caveat emptor on these. I have not tried this recipe yet. However, I figured there were some closet cooks in the crowd that would like to give this a try for the next DZ party. If anyone does get to this recipe, please post the results. Thanks. 10. We're already off to a good start. Still there are a lot of computer savvy people out there that can give us a hand. Check out the link above and donate some idle computer time to medical science. Attached is our current points certificate. You can print and post this to show your support and raise awareness to this effort. Check back at the Folding@Home website to get the most current points certificate. 11. You can download the software from http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html There are versions for Linux, Mac, and Windows. I know the Windows downloads are a bit confusing when you first look at it. there are lots of versions to choose from. The GPU versions are for very advanced graphics cards, so just ignore those. The "No nonsense" text-only version is more efficient, but I had trouble getting it to work. You can try it, but I think it is just too confusing to install for the average computer user. I would stick with the Graphical client. Then just match with your version of Windows. When you set it up, enter 81761 for your team number. This will include your results with the rest of the friends of Lost Prairie. Thanks for taking some time to support research for these diseases. 12. The photo was taken after it got back to the loft and the camera was working. I think it was moved out of the protector flap after the initial gear check. I know the image is small to make it below the post size maximum. It is difficult to see that the closing loop is also significantly frayed. I'm glad some of the readers who were unaware of this problem got a chance to see it. There have been a couple comments about the proper routing. The Javelin Owners Manual (http://www.sunpath.com/downloads/manuals/sp_owners_manual.pdf) has a very good illustration on page 32 of the proper routing. If things don't look right, be sure to ask someone else about it. I've had great support from all of the manufacturers when I call with questions about their equipment and its proper care and maintenance. 13. As many of you know Lenni Sand from Skydive Lost Prairie was diagnosed some time ago with Parkinson's Disease. Ske is a wonderful person and many of you have already reached out in support and love. I recently came across some work that Stanford is doing in the area of Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes. It's called Folding@Home. You can help out by donating some of your idle computer time to the project. I've set up a Skydive Lost Prairie team which will track how much everyone has contributed. For information about how to help out visit the Folding@Home website at http://folding.stanford.edu. When you configure your team enter 81761 for the Skydive Lost Prairie team. Keep track of how much we've contributed at http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=81761 Packin' Jack 42nd Lost Prairie: The Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe, and Skydiving 25 Jul - 3 Aug 2009 2007 photos: http://www.skydive.com/prairie/pages/prairie.htm
  14. Today we had a memorial ash dive for Mac at Lost Prairie. I wanted to share some of the images from the event for those who couldn't be here with us. You'll notice as you go through these that there were plenty of photographers on hand so there should be a number of other images available. HIM! HIM! FUCK HIM! 15. Had this rig show up at gear check during Lost Prairie this week. Wanted to share the community how dangerous inattention can get. 16. It is Lost Prairie, www.skydivelostprairie.com, a great little drop zone in northwest Montana. Every year they host their own Jumpmeet. For 10 days the normally quiet skies of Montana are filled with the sounds of Skydive Arizona turbines. And the nights are filled with raucous laughter. Well except for two nights: one when the Cock Chorus tries to suck less, and one night as the Crack Choir serenades the guys into quiet peace. This is the longest continuously running skydiving boogie in the nation. It is a great time with some really fun skydives to be made. With WFFC canceled for the year, this would be the perfect opportunity to use your boogie budget for a trip to LP. This year is the 40th annual Jumpmeet. Stop by, but don't forget to bring some Lang. 17. I didn't see "Free Repacks" in the list. Is that just the best reason for dating a rigger? Packin' Jack 42nd Lost Prairie: The Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe, and Skydiving 25 Jul - 3 Aug 2009 2007 photos: http://www.skydive.com/prairie/pages/prairie.htm
  18. Thanks. Sometimes you can slide the ticket half out and they will get their mark made and you just slide it back in. Also the vinyl can get sticky. A clear plastic would work better, but vinyl was cheap at Wal-Mart. 19. Sorry guys for a little self promotion. A while back I came up with an idea for a holder for airline tickets to protect them so they don't end up a crumpled wad at the end of your trip. It also keeps your ID with your boarding pass so you're not fumbling around with all those important documents at security. I recently came across Instructables.com where you can post instructions for projects like this one. The ticket holder is made with stuff that is pretty common around a rigger's loft. Well maybe not the vinyl, but you can pick up that at Wal-Mart. Please check out my post. If you find it useful, use the instructions to make one of your own. 21. I just saw the names of the instructors were released to the AP News. For those who have been to LP, I know this isn't news as they were a bedrock for skydiving there. I'm still having trouble believing this is real. They were both great guys. It will take a long time to heal from this tragedy. To the family, I offer my condolences. They were great people who lived to the fullest. They have had a positive impact not only to the friends who have posted here, but to the hundreds of other skydivers and students that they met. Blue skies. Packin' Jack 42nd Lost Prairie: The Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe, and Skydiving 25 Jul - 3 Aug 2009 2007 photos: http://www.skydive.com/prairie/pages/prairie.htm
  22. I was getting my tubing from a local hardware store. At one time I ended up with some tubing that had an inside diameter that was a little bit smaller and was difficult to fit over the #6 links on a tandem rig. I cut sets of 4 bumpers. Then I would put them in a snack size Ziplock bag with a length of super tack and one of the attached sets of instructions (Printed on index cards and cut in half). I would leave a few sets at the DZ in the packing kit so they could quickly be replaced to prevent damage to the tandem slider grommets and excessive line wear. 23. I didn't mention it before, but in addition to the main repack, I offer a 14-day guarantee. It isn't a guarantee that the pack jobs will work, but if you have a reserve ride within 14 days of the repack date, I will do the subsequent inspection and repack for free. 24. Since the original post I've updated my inspection form. It is attached below. I print it on 3-Panel Brochure Paper from Paper Direct. I don't see the same design I use, but it is similar to this: http://www.paperdirect.com/Continental+3+Panel+Brochure+Papers/item_no=BRCNTL/cid=853/page_no=5/shop.axd/ProductDetails Packin' Jack 42nd Lost Prairie: The Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe, and Skydiving 25 Jul - 3 Aug 2009 2007 photos: http://www.skydive.com/prairie/pages/prairie.htm
  25. Some great words. Thanks for sharing. You know until you mentioned this I didn't recognize it myself. Yet, Mac lived this. I was always a bit in the background at the bar, but I could always count on finding Mac there to chat with and make me feel at home in that crowded bar during Jumpmeet. Every time I got there he would make it a point to tell whichever dickhead was there some story about me. There were only a couple, but he loved telling them again and making sure I felt part of the conversation. Thanks to everyone who was able to join us at the LP bar to remember how great Mac was, and how great he made us feel. Mac, you will be dearly missed. Yet our memories and your inspirations will live on forever.
