It depends a lot on what kind of brain injury. I have an brain aneurysm which has been "fixed" by putting platinum coils into it (endovascular coiling). I checked with every specialist available (interventional radiologists, neurosurgeons etc.), but of course there is no previous study or experience about coiled skydivers, so nobody could give me a definite go or no-go. However, there is some info and research about coiled divers and the study did not see any reason that would justify a no-go. Therefore I decided for myself to go skydiving again. So far, no problems. But like I said, I am no doctor and in the end it all comes down to the type of brain injury and the individual case. Asking the doc who performed the operation (if any has been done) would be the way to go. Hi, I did AFF in Empuria ( http://www.skydiveempuriabrava.com )and can only recommend it. Cannot say a bad word about them. Great planes, great instructors, great gear, great people and so on. I did my AFF and 'bout 10 solo jumps at the end of February 09 within 1 week. If you would like to do it there, do it NOW, as it usually gets very windy between Mid-March till the end of April. I slept in the bunkhouse which is a 1min. walk from the manifest area and a good place to stay as it is cheap and you meet a lot of great people. There are also quite a few cheap hotels in that area, which offer good deals especially this time of the year. Don't forget to check out the skybar as well! My sig line contains the link to my AFF videos (all levels). You will have fun!! Cool, thanks for the tips! MoMA, Statue of Liberty, SoHo shopping, Coney Island, the Park and Times Square are on our list. Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory sounds very good! I've been to NY about 15 years ago during XMAS time and it was reaaaly cold. I've been up on the Empire State back then, but it was so foggy that you barely could see the adjacent buildings. I am also probably the only guy in the world who has been to NY and didn't see the Statue of Liberty Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/4000meter Youtube Favorites: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjnVsp4Epra-PRDETgrF3M04B3X86X1eh

Haha, of course we are looking forward to meeting you guys! Especially as I know your reputation Ohaaaaa, didn't even think about dragging the gear with me. But now as you mention it... I have a medical assessment in April this year, which will decide if and how my camping career continues (for details, see here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3845706;search_string=aneurysm;#3845706 ) If I get a GO from the doctors I will probably bring the gear with me. Will probably check for a flight from JFK to ORD and take a rental car from there. We would love to see a little bit more of the US, but driving 2000 mls. would just take too much time on a 9 day trip. Hmm, we haven't check for accomodation in Oshkosh yet. The website still lists lots of available apartments. If we are too late for a hotel or B&B, we will camp. Problem is that we cannot book yet, as the wife is still waiting for her visa appoval @twardo: Thanks a lot for the offer! You're doing demos there right? Cheers from Dublin! Hi, we (GF & myself) are planning a holiday trip for 2011. We plan to visit the US between 22.July and August 2nd and I would require a little bit of advice if our plan makes sense or is totally unrealistic. Masterplan: 22.7: Flight from Dublin to JFK 23.7 - 27/28.7: Sightseeing NY (+ Shopping ) 28.7 - 31.7: Oshkosh 2011 FUCK YEAH! 31.7 - 2.8: Either visit Chicago and fly back from ORD or go back to NY and fly back from there (flights would be way cheaper if we arrive AND depart from JFK). Now my questions: What would be the best way to go from NY to Oshkosh and back? Car? Plane? According to Google Maps its around 980 Mls. from NY to Oshkosh, so we would lose quite some time on the road if we go by car. If by plane, is there any airline you would recommend for flights within the US? Also, for the Oshkosh veterans, is 2 full days ok to spend in Oshkost? It was a tough fight to convince her to go there Thanks for any input! Cheers from Dublin (Europe, not Ohio) Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/4000meter Youtube Favorites: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjnVsp4Epra-PRDETgrF3M04B3X86X1eh

How many of you don't jump in the cold weather?

On altitude. Ground was around -10 C. The Porter actually has a good heating and in the cabin it was quite warm and cosy. Once the door opened..... Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/4000meter Youtube Favorites: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjnVsp4Epra-PRDETgrF3M04B3X86X1eh -

Been jumping in -29 C (that"s -20,2 Fahrenheit according to Google) this year and it was just to cold. Freefall is not too bad, but the canopy ride was so cold that I couldn't feel my fingers at all during the flare. I looked up to see if my fingers are within the brake loops and just pulled down my arms. Hi, yeah I read a lot of blogs on a daily base. About 15 or so about my work (IT security) and ~40 of other stuff from totally different areas. I think it's a good way of consuming information in addition to reading traditional media. Many many papers get their stuff straight from news agencies like Reuters and then just change a few lines or add a comment which caused a conformity of opinions. Blogs add a few shades of grey to the traditional black and white communicated in the mainstream media. I usually read blogs via RSS, but click on the link to the website if I want to get access to comments etc. There lots of BS floating around in the blogosphere and it takes a while to collect a few bookmarks that are worth reading over a longer period of time. Hi, I have a aneurysm on the left ACI (Arteria Carotid Interna) and have talked to numerous neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists during the past months about the effects of skydiving on the arteries. I personally do not believe that the instructor pulling his head could have caused a dissection of the artery. A traumatic dissection of the CE would require a stronger force (e.g. a car accident or a real hard opening which is uncommon on a tandem) than a instructor who is trying to put your head into the correct position. I am not doctor and this post only reflects my personal opinion! To get further clarification I would highly recommend to get a proper physical examination (MRI or Angiography) by a qualified medical persion. All the best to your friend! It's not from Sarrzins book. It's from a study, recently done by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. You can read the whole thing here: http://library.fes.de/pdf-files/do/07504.pdf I certainly agree that the study is quite worrying in some parts, but want to highlight that most countries in Europe would achive similar results. As mentioned earlier: If the society, in former ultraliberal countries like Denmark & Holland, performs a shift to the political right, there for sure is a underlying cause for that. Lot's of people were hesitating in the past to vocalize their concern about the devolopment of our society, because someone was quickly put into the xenophobic corner. And now there is a lot of anger in the air, that has been held back for quite some time. I also want to highlight that it is not about religion in general, but unfortunately for the muslims, they are the ones to stick out. In regards to both cultural background as well as crime statistics My personal impression is, that the people have absolutely no problem with muslims, or imigrants, in general. What causes peoples anger is the lack of repect that some people show. Among those people, the European authorities have the reputation of being wimps and that causes them to ignore laws, handle troubles within their clans and absolutely show no sign to become a supporting part of the society. Friendliness and politeness are considered to be weak chrarcteristics. I do not want to live in a society with those standards. I agree. I do not expect that a person who comes to Germay, calls himself Franz instead of Ahmed and starts eating tons of sausages (cheap prejudices ) , but I can at least expect that he or she repects the laws and does not try impose his laws and traditions on other people. For example, if schools stop serving pork completely, because it could offend muslim pupils if a German guys eats his Schnitzel, then there is something seriously wrong. Political Correctness has gone way to far. Here is a good example of what kinda guys the average German John Doe is afraid of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DIA1Y136sQ Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/4000meter Youtube Favorites: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjnVsp4Epra-PRDETgrF3M04B3X86X1eh

Ok, I do agree that those figures are extremly embarassing But I also think that the results are not typically for Germany only, but the same survey would bring similar results in other countries as well. Uneducated and stupid people exist around the globe. To defend my fellow countrymen at least a little bit: The situation in some areas of some German cities is quite complicated. The German imigration policy was way to lax in the past. People without any qualification and without the intention to adjust at least a little bit were tolerated way to long. I am NOT talking about fugitives here, but about people who came to this country by free will. This is a the major difference, for example in comparison with the Canadian imigration rules. Some of those people are now exploting the social system, which causes a lot of anger by the people who actually pay the taxes. Honestly, I don't care if the tower next to my house belongs to a church or a mosque, but many Germans feel threatened by the fact that they could soon be a minority in "their" own country. There is a huge difference between justifieable concerns and xenophobia. Of course, Germany was affected by the global economic downturn, but that's very logical for an economy focused on export. However, unemployment rate has dropped to 7,2%, the lowest rate in years and the economic growth for 2010 is expected to be >2%. Downturn in 2009 was -2,7%, but thats nothing compared to some years in the mid 80s, especially if you consider that the west of Germany is still the economic powerhouse of the nation and heavily subsidising the 5 new federal states (former East Germany). The reunification alone cost 1,5 Trillion Euro (=2,13 Trillion CAD). Politicians? No, honestly the situation is completely different. What are the similarities you mentioned? My guess: Kerry Airport? Last time I flew from there, I didn't even realize I went throught the security check If somebody acts like this on a place, I would definitely inform the cabin crew about it. I'd rather be the guy who paniced, than be the guy who was blown to pieces.
