  1. im kind of wondering how you will be able to market an aad without modes?

    I fly my large wingsuit in the mid 20s fall rate, after I deploy, my canopy speed is probably very close to the same speed as freefall. 120 canopy loaded at 1.6.

    How is this aad going to know im under canopy. I can fool my altitrack all day long into thinking I deployed, as flares in large wingsuits can turn negative numbers in fall rate. just seems like a tall task for a wingsuiter aad. but, I just saw an ad from airtec about a "new" wingsuit cypress today. I really wish this would come to the market, as I just lost a good friend yesterday to a wingsuit collision.

    Most realistic from looking at this would be a reserve pin that was not fully in and on impact was enough to dislodge it. Its been seen enough times on people exiting in doors and if the pin is close a slight nock on the door as they take grips releases the pin and reserve is initiated. If the RSL was knocked it would need to be under tension with little to no slack to initiate.


    ive had 2 out because I was sitting in the "crapper" of a super otter, I leaned back against the wall where the seam is, I had a wings container at the time, so the reserve protection tucked from the top. so when I got comfortable the seam pushed my pin upward. luckily the reserve didn't come out until I deployed my main. I was able to reel in the reserve still in the freebag and stuff it in my wingsuit.

    it's a whole lot of fun! everyone can do it! it's phenomenal!


    Im addicted as hell to drones, way more than skydiving or base jumping. you can learn so much from multirotors it is unreal. we have a big group of skydivers down in Clewiston that flies after the jumping day is over. loads of fun and props are cheap!!!! my hands still get sweaty and my pulse gets elevated. it has been a while since ive experienced this outside of base. so for me its a win/win. I still get to get my heart racing but don't have to take the risk involved with ws base.

    Well technically at that point it is not a BASE jump, it is a jump from an aircraft. But it could be a popular BASE style option in that it could open up terrain lines (especially for wingsuits) that don't have the cliff vertical required for an exit point. Basically similar to what guys do now with a helicopter, but on a smaller scale.

    id like one of these things with a "return to home" function.
    then I wouldn't have to climb antennas for hours lol!

  5. I powdercoat all the time, the uncoated steel cable is no big deal.
    Just tape it up before coating it, as far as heat is concerned you can get low temperature powder 250° as far as inspection thats all you, Make sure your rigger is ok with it. Most D rings are stainless, so 250° isn't going to damage that in any way, but the inspection part could cause you problems. be aware of the plastic that covers some cables, if your D ring has a plastic covered cable I would avoid any heat at all. You could really cause problems if that plastic gets damaged or delaminated from the cable.

    About 20 Freak's and Swifts arrived today, with the other 80 or so suits showing up in the next 2 weeks.

    Again, THANKS to Mike and Matt over at Squirrel, well, for being themselves and the best company in the skydiving industry, in my humble opinion. I don't know anyone else that could make me 100 suits like this..YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

    I know. That's supposed to be the cooler month, right? I wonder how my kids are doing in their new place in Cape Coral with that.

    Have you and Normiss switched to mostly LED Christmas lights? Although I loved the old school C-9s with the big clear glass bulbs, they sucked the amps. I noticed a big improvement in my holiday electric bill when I made the switch. I still use the standard mini-lights some. I just like they way they look.

    Not as many people put up Christmas lights as they used to. I really miss seeing block after block of houses with beautiful decorations and colored lights draped all over. [:/]

    I live in Cape coral also! It's hot!

    There is some truth to that statement (ignoring your assumptions about what "we" think), but zero relevance to what I was saying.

    While there are certainly unanswered questions in both physics and aerodynamics, these questions have no bearing on the many things that we do know, and one example of such a thing that we do know is that if you take two identical airframes and load one higher than the other, it will descend faster. More specifically, if you load a canopy higher, it will descend faster. To claim otherwise is unbelievably wrong. A skydiver with any experience should know this with no other knowledge of aerodynamics; I'm surprised they would give a USPA license to anybody who did not understand this. Do you honestly think loading a canopy higher might somehow make it magically go slower?
    I highly respect you as a wingsuiter, but flysight data is a pretty solid tool for figuring out fall rates and forward speed. why would I make shit up? I was flying with TJ and Curt B. I think they might know a thing or two on interpreting data from a flysight? no? these are world champion canopy pilots here man.

  11. I was just in Deland this weekend at the XRW camp.
    we had canopy pilots ranging from 3.2/1 all the way up to 4.1/1 we found out that just because you load a canopy more does not mean it will descend faster. we realized that in some instances more weight actually equaled more glide.

    most of our jumps were loaded around 3.2-3.4 this was on petras. the 4.1 was on a 58jvx.
    most of the wingsuiters that were taking docks and getting surfed were wearing large suits (rebel3,Aura,Apache,Rbirdpro,Freak) some of the smaller suits did struggle with heavier pilots.

    I was averaging a 36mph fall rate on most jumps. ranging from 24-44.

    one of the larger guys there did actually measure his surface area, he was right at 35 square feet on his wing suit.

    I think surface area loading has more of an influence in this sport than most other aspects other that proper loading of canopy pilot. this is just my personal opinion....

    I believe the sweet spot for loading a wingsuit for xrw is between 4 and 5lbs per square foot.
    there are people that can do xrw at a higher wingsuit loading, but they are few and far between.

  12. id go with a little more lead and try to get to a 3.2wl

    this will give the wingsuiter more range and will be less tiring. take it slow, start with proxy next to each other, then move on to foot docks, then hand docks, then surf.

    I like to have the canopy pilot remove their hands completely from the risers and stick them straight out like you are taking a dock on both sides. (this will slow down your forward speed a little and allow the wingsuit to approach a little quicker)
    use your legs as an indicator to dock/go away.
    legs out and extended means come closer, legs crossed and bent means go away. (this also slows the forward speed)
    my hardest xrw jumps have been lightly loaded canopies that fly fast forward. Ive gotten docks on a canopy pilot loaded at 2.8 but it was a struggle the whole jump and I didn't want to do it again after I landed.

    also on the x3 try and jump it with the zippers closed, I owned one of those and it seemed to stall easier with the zips open, I was always able to perform better on my altitrack with the zippers closed.

    I have a Neptune II. Out of date, I know. But it generally works great. The problem I have is, if I'm out for a longer ride in my wingsuit, I can get my fall rate slow enough that it thinks I did a hop & pop. It records the whole thing as a canopy ride. Called the company- Neither the NII or the Neptune III has a "wingsuit setting" that will accurately record flight (freefall) time (from exit to deployment) if you're falling too slow.
    Anybody know of an audible that will work with a very slow fall rate?



    I jump an N3a. I disable freefall and canopy alarms, but enable countdown. that way you get a voice telling you the altitude every 2k feet. it is really nice to have a female voice whisper in your ear at altitude, in comparison to the screaming of a dytter. you can even record your own wav. files and have it play them! no worries about slow freefall speeds either, im in the low 20s and it works every time

  14. I like the N3A, solid piece of equipment, I have no clue what ill do once it craps out, since they no longer produce it.
    my last venture with L&B was fairly expensive. I had to send a viso back to Denmark. tracked and insured shipping to Denmark is NOT cheap!!! over $40!!!
    seems like quite a few people have issues with the viso, im on my 3rd one.
