  1. mho... i owned a c1, i liked it but never "loved it"
i owned a v4 and absolutely hated that suit
i still own an Xbird and an Aura and LOVE them both.
my issue with the c1 was how loose your arms are in the sleeves. it allows the suit to kind of do its own thing a little.
also i noticed the c1 liked to be flown a little steeper than what i was used to (tonysuits) so i never felt like i was getting a great flare out of the suit. this really bothered me.... i sent the c1 back and got an aura "THANK YOU SQUIRREL" it was everything i was hoping for and more.
such an improvment over the c1. it flared great and was very stable. my friend still has his c1 and its still a fun suit to fly. just not my cup of tea anymore

  2. burbleme is a really nice feature for any large dz. you can; check in, manifest for a load, look at loads building, look at money on account, organize a whole group ay one time. look at how long till your loads call is. also a logbook... all from your phone.

  3. I almost jumped the lookout tower on the American side. I was on the object. but with no way to get out once you land. you'd have to camp out at the bottom and wait for the tower to open then try and sneak back up with a rig. no fucking way would you jump a damn wingsuit into that mess.

Good flying with you Jeremy. After you all left I realised that our sunset beach jump was my 1,500th skydive. Thanks for sharing and making it a good one!

    Richard :)

good flying with you too, and its funny you say that about your jump numbers. that beach jump was my 998!!! headed to zhills now to get that magical number

***Where are all of the wingsuiters going to be jumping for the holidays?

We did a couple of 16 way dynamic formation jumps to close out the day yesterday (Zhills). Waiting for the fog to clear this morning.
nice man! I was in Sebastian Fri, Sat, Sun. we got quite a few good jumps in.
thanks romain! averaging 6-7 ways mostly docking.

***I'm here at Sebastian now and have been for a week or so. Yes, they now ask that wingsuit jumpers have a D licence and deploy by 3,000 ft. I haven't had any problems though; the staff are their usual friendly selves and the vibe is quite relaxed.

Many DZs around the world have a 500 jump minimum so it's not that out of kilter, and no-one should really be deploying at less than 3,000ft without good reason on a normal wingsuit jump anyway.

The main reason I'm not going to Sebastian with my friends is that neither I nor my girlfriend could wingsuit there. Apparently even 200+ WS jumps isn't enough to satisfy the skygods there, while someone with 1 WS jump but 500 jumps total is "safer".

I was told by a friend that someone went in on a WS flight there because he didn't correctly buckle his leg straps causing the over-reaction by the owners. Whether true or not, I see no logical reason why a dropzone that offers AFF would be so draconian with regards to wingsuiting.
that incident was many years ago and had nothing to do with the current ban in place.

yea, forget any first flight courses, coaching, or any wingsuiter that has less than 300 jumps
    (that started wingsuiting at 200).
i love that dz and will be there this weekend of the 27-28.
i just wish they thought this out a little better before implementing it.

  8. even a base rig uses a rubberband in the tailpocket, its called a locking stow.
just replace your fucking lines when they get worn.
    pretty simple there.
the lines will be out of trim long before any wear from a semi stowless dbag will cause you problems.

  9. The mandatory D license for wingsuiting was implemented right after a very well known and loved wingsuiter went in this year. He held a D license and had more experience than anyone I know. Why Sebastian chose to ban low jump#s on wingsuits I do not know.

    ***Hey everyone,

I need some advice about where it would be best for me to travel between the 29th of december and 7-8th of january for a skydiving trip.

Im from quebec so florida is the closest but not super hot at this time of the year. Z-hills might be fun, eny thoughts on this place?

Idd like a place that has cheap jumping tickets, i thought about Lodi in california but aparently its pretty rainy during winter...I dont want to spend 800$ on a plane ticket and have a week of raining...enyone's been there around december-january?

I would also like a place that has a beach neer the dropzone. I was told about the boogie in escondido but aparently registration is closed...Enyone know if we can still show up there ? or eny other similiar place in mexico/ cuba / enywhere that has plane that go hier then 10 000 ?

Also, let me know if some of you will be in the south between those dates and want to split room or something !

Florida or Perris/Elsinore. Nothing against the NORCAL crew, but SOCAL may be a bit more temperature friendly. Eloy will probably get pretty cold at night (it is a desert) but if cold doesn't bother you you can crank out jumps.

Beaches in FL will be pretty bare this time of year. The water is pretty cold. SOCAL will probably still have surfers braving the water looking for waves.

The NYE party migrated from ZHills to Sebastion in the late 2000s, but it tends to migrate every five years so it may be drifting back. I haven't been there in awhile.

It's going to be back in zhills this year. (That's the rumor)

As the title suggests I am looking to get away for a couple days and attend one of these boogies. My home DZ is only open Friday, Sat, and Sunday this time of year :(. Looking for

1). Ability to make lots of jumps
2). Night jumps and or different aircraft i.e. ballon, helicopter
3). Possibility of Wingsuit First Jump Course

My dates are not set yet but I'm going to be limited on time with work. Looking at 31st to 4th. Flights to FL are a little cheaper bc I am on east coast. Weather can always be an issue with FL in DEc/ Jan. and might miss Zhills night jumps if I can't get in on time. Sebastian and the Invasion look cool but higher cost to attend is not making them number 1. Never been to AZ but have heard really good things.

Suggestions and ideas would be helpful thanks!

Forget Sebastian and wingsuiting unless you have a D license.
I don't know why they aren't advertising this.
As quite a few people have already found out the hard way.
They probably don't want to advertise it because it WILL affect their attendance. I'm trying to get the word out before people travel days to get there only to find out they aren't allowed to jump.

I could swear I once heard there was/is a bar in NYC that was either skydiving-themed, or owned by jumpers or something along those lines... anyone know if such a place exists or is it something I just dreamed up?

All I could find via search on here is Puck Fair... which doesn't sound like what I'm thinking of, but I may check it out anyways.

    Thanks!

The bar is called Nelson Blue. Super fun place. Was just there a couple months ago.

  13. i made a very similar mount, but mine is not inverted.
it is on the right side.
i have a sena 20s intercom mounted on the left side. mounting the sony on the right side in the proper orentation closes the gap that a line could get caught in.
i used this in Switzerland this summer for Base jumps and it worked out really well.
i have since modified it to allow entry into the waterproof housing without removing the mount screw for the camera.

I have just done some comparison of the footage I took on the weekend between an AZ1 and AS30.

The HQ mode (1080p at 30fps) video from the AZ1 has mild jello effect in the background, as did the HQ mode video from the AS30. However, the PS mode (1080p 60fps) video from the AS30 doesn't show any jello effect. This was with the anti-shake feature turned on for all modes on both cameras.

Since both cameras are hard mounted to the helmet in a similar way, it would seem the wind induced vibration must be closer to 30hz than 60hz, so filming at 60fps makes it less obvious. I didn't get a chance to run the AZ1 in PS mode, but will do so when filming the same team in a fortnight, just to confirm this.

I've read other articles on using a neutral density filter to trick the camera into using a slower shutter speed. I guess the theory is the same in that you are trying to get the rolling shutter away from refreshing at a frequency close to any vibration the camera is subject to (as people mouting GoPros to drones have noticed).

I'll purchase an ND filter this weekend and find a way to mount it on the AZ1 to see if that has an effect, as I would prefer to capture the RW footage in 30fps to keep the file size down and make playback a bit less taxing on my laptop. Not sure yet if the RW judges will accept 60fps footage, so will have to ask about that before comp in a few months.

what EXACT memory card is everyone using with these cams? im using the samsung card and im having a lot of videos get corrupted.

  15. i made a side mount for my as100v and spoke to cookie.
they said they werent planning on pursuing any camera side mounts for the sony.
my as100 constantly corrupts vidoe files if they are over 4-5 mins, then corrupts every file after that.
i have a classified ad for the sidemounts for the as100v. hopefully Sony sends me an AZ1 after the 3rd time the as100 goes been back. im sure the mounts have to be very similar

  16. I had the chance to fly Travis's r2b2 this weekend, I only put two jumps on it, but immediately fell in love! I also put one jump on the rbird2. The r2b2 has a little more arm pressure than the rbird2. They both are amazing on their backs and bellies. Wayyy more power than the similar sized suits but a lot more performance on the belly.

  17. Next time you sell a wingsuit, please get some background info on the buyer.
I just had a first time tandem student contact me for training on his newly purchased v2from.dz.com.>:(
I realize no experienced wingsuit pilot will buy this suit so you had to recoup cash somehow. But wtf man?
Now there is an idiot with zero experience and a wingsuit and youtube.
He was talking about taking it off a high dive (diving board) and trying to fly it in a hvac duct. This guy is no troll, he is serious.
I understand people buy wingsuits before they have the jump #'s, but one tandem???? Just ask a few simple questions, that's all.
I would have contacted the seller directly, but the newby would not give me the sellers info. I also tried to look up a cached version of the website.

Six years after suggesting a website devoted to Lost Drop Zones I've finally pulled the trigger and created one. I retired last Friday and have been working ever since to get it up and running. I'm new to Dreamweaver so it's been a laborious process and I still need to iron out some wrinkles (I know Georgia isn't in the Southwest). I have over 300 lost DZs documented but nothing in the way of stories other than two I've submitted for Riverview and Lakeland Florida. Your mission is to dig into your memory banks and share your stories and photos from the early days of our sport. Send them to [email protected] along with your name, license (optional), the years the DZ was in operation, and anything else you think would be of interest to others. Definitely send pictures! And share the site with others from the early days.
