  5. As far as I know, it's open year round. I believe it's closed on Mon and Tues. Correct me if I'm wrong. Bay Area Skydiving - Byron, CA
  6. After only jumping twice, and having both of them open around 5500- 4500, I feel pretty comfortable with that altitude. I hear that more experienced divers like to open around 2500-3000 and that scares the shit out of me... I would rather open higher (at least 4k) and then have time to mess around and enjoy the ride, or spend the time dealing with mals (should they happen to rear their ugly head.) Maybe over time that will change. Did you guys/gals feel the same way when you started jumping, and then gradually start to open lower and lower... And right now, I like being under canopy much better than freefall, but I think it's just that fear thing that is keeping me from enjoying to it's fullest until my canopy opens.
  7. Not as addictive as those crazy fuckers that hang outside moving airplanes like monkeys....

  20. Hey Tom, what date did you quit? I also quit on Jan 2nd.. WOOOOHOOO!!! Now I'm putting my money for smokes and investing it in this sport. That's like 1200-1500 a year for smokes....hell, that would pay for my AFF class and then some more jumps... Congrats!!! Let's keep it up...
  21. I didn't get this one on video, but I would like to get the subsequent ones on video. I hear they are cheaper on the following jumps past #1. Yeah, I still watch my first tandem jump and get some butterflies as I head out the door. I think it would be best to do levels 2 and 3 together. That way, 2 is a practice jump while 3 is supposed to be one of the hardest. If I can do 2, knock out any errors for 3 - then that would be great. I think Ishaan and I are planning on jumping again in a couple weeks. Having someone I know there with me is a comforting feeling, besides having someone to hang out with while we are waiting. Last weekend, I brought another one of my friends (she didn't jump) and my dog. - Matt
  22. That sounds like good advice, Kelli. Thanks!! - Matt
  23. This brings up a good point. Tell me if this should be in a thread by itself. What about if coming off student status, you recently bought a used rig. I would assume that you would want to find rigger to recert your reserve... but how do you know WHO to trust to pack your reserve ?
  24. OK - I have to say something... I am the "friend" that Ishaan is referring to. I also did my pre-second AFF L1 jump yesterday. There are not enough words to describe the feelings that I have been going through - both before the jump and after. I must tell you though, that those feelings pretty much did a 180. Most of the fear was replaced with faith and adrenaline as soon as I stepped out that door and into blue skies. Faith that I had in myself to do what I was taught to do, in the right order; and adrenaline - no need to explain that one. I'm sure there's more, but I have a lot of reading to do on this site. - Matt
