  9. First, the review below was not written by the customer, but the customer's father who had come to watch. Second, all customers are informed that it is a 2 to 4 hour process from the time you arrive until you leave. These folks were in and out in 3 hours. They would've been finished sooner but we had to take some extra time to arrange for all of the jumpers to be on the same load together. We are consistently faster than any facility in the country. We regularly hear of folks waiting 8 hours at our competitors. We also took extra time to include every jumper on the video, a lot of extra time and work at no extra charge. There was some offensive language on the customers video, a "chant/cheer" led by one of the other non-staff jumpers. The customer was asked if it would be ok before we filmed it. Even so, we have re-edited the video for free and sent him the revised non-offending copy. The "humping dog" occured in a staff office marked "Staff Only". However, we regret the father was exposed to this and the staff member was disciplined. This waiting area was possibly messy due to the fact it was the end of a busy day. There are several waiting areas, however. Lastly, the father had actually jumped with us in the past and found us to be professional enough to bring his family back. We take pride in being a professional organization and hope you, the prospective customer, will see the positives from the many thousands that jump with us each year and not the negatives from one persons bad experience. -Skydive Atlanta management
  10. Skydive Atlanta is actually only about 2:30 to 2:45 from Savannah. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  11. I'm both a rigger and have been a packer and I'll have to disagree with you from my experience. How would a lineover occur without packing error? To which additonal conrtibuting factors are you referring? List of some additional packing errors: Gross errors- Uncocked p/c or collapsed slider resulting in broken lines or torn canopy, allowing foreign matter (rubber bands etc.) to be in the canopy interfering with it's opening. Subjective errors- Improper line stows, improperly or un-stowed brake, & excessive nose rolling. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  12. Voice of reason with no cursing or emotion: Preface- I did not have time to read the entire thread. If that policy wasn't up front and in writing, legally, you are not financially responsible. That being said... What was the malfunction? There is a big difference between cutaway for line twist and for a line-over. One is possibly not your fault the other absolutely is. If it was the former I would just say no and see what happens. If it was a lineover or other gross packing error: You would have an ethical obligation to stop working and spend the rest of the day trying to recover the lost gear. Ethically, you should try to find a compromise with owner and work off the cost over time. Then you should get some more training from a rigger on packing technique. I have all gear renters sign an agreement that they are responsible for lost equipment on a cutaway. But not packers. It's part of the business. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  13. Do you think the use of liability waivers is hurting the quality of medical care in the US? Wait, let me be more constructive. You can't waiver gross negligence. All business operators are obligated to provide reasonable precautions for the safety of their patrons everywhere. If the plaintiff demonstrates that the defendant knew or should have known equipment, aircraft maintenance, training etc. were faulty or deficient in some manner then they will win a civil lawsuit. If a Doctor is using unsterile instruments that cause an infection and you lose a limb, a waiver would not cover it because instrument sterilization and handling procedures are standardized in the medical industry. The waiver portion (aka "Agreement not to sue") is only part of the document you sign when jumping at a DZ. The more important part is called the "Assumption of Risk". This is the part that says you understand what your are doing is inherently dangerous and you could be injured, die, or worse and are still doing it voluntarily. However, when you folks want to pay me a million dollars a year net profit for skydiving, I'll be happy to pay the $250,000 a year in insurance premiums for liability similar to Dr. malpractice and tear up my waivers.
  14. Nobody said anything about putting up a sign, which you are referring to "holding out" to the public. If I take a group of jumpers and share expenses, even if I am on the way to do a commercial operation at the destination, it is legal because I own the aircraft. I just have to be able to prove that I paid my portion or more of the flight's expense. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  15. He is out of the sport long ago. Unfortunately, as I understand from another mutual friend that used to jump with us at Rome, Jay developed and has fought a bad Meth habit on and off for some years. Even though he was always a dick to me, he was one of the funniest guys I've ever met. I hope things look up for him. That drug is horrible to people. Not sure that anyone knows exactly how to reach him. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  16. The truth is really, you have no way to really tell without becoming educated. Even the FAA inspectors that are A&P's don't always know what they are looking at unless they are familiar with THAT specific aircraft type's standard maintenance practices and inspection programs. Believe it or not, they actually never check logbooks without a specific reason to do so. For example, inspection of a charter or airline company. There simply is not time nor manpower to do it. Like I said previously, as much as most of these aircraft are flown, any aircraft you are on should've had a major inspection of some sort within the last year or so. The typical logbook entry will have a date and will pretty plainly state the work completed. You should see, "Complied with A.D. 123-456-78", or" Performed EMMA"/ "Performed Phase 2" etc. within the last year or so. If they only show "replaced boost pump", "lubed cables", changed filters" etc. then you should be concerned and start asking more questions. Remember, all commercial flown aircraft are subject at the minimum a 100 hour inspection and annual if not on another approved inspection program. For that matter, those of you that are not riggers, how do you know that your reserve and it's components are in airworthy condition? Even if you looked at it would you know? It's the same. You know what to look for on the card and you trust the guy that signed it. Hope that helps. On another note: I find it amusing how so many of you are interested in solving an incompetent governing body by giving them more authority and power. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  17. Let's start with these. These are the most recent 2 airframe logbook pages for our King Air at Skydive Atlanta. The red text was added by me but they are scans of the actual entries. All turbine aircraft that are flown at a reasonably busy DZ should have had some sort of inspection within the last year just based on the number of hours they fly. Otters are on an EMMA program and King Airs are Phase inspection. I believe Caravans do Phase inspections as well but am not sure. I would never have a problem showing a jumper our records and explaining them assuming it was a reasonably convenient time. I can think of a few good times to do so. Any rainy day where you are hanging out, Safety Day, any extended weather hold... Questions on these welcomed. -Trey http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  18. I have an aquaintance, someone very well known in the sport, tell me once that in high school he started lying to people on purpose to just to see if they noticed. He would make the lies bigger and bigger to see how far he could take it. He said through this process he learned that most people don't know the difference and will believe most anything you tell them. I think he still does this today. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  19. Your right, those ideas behind the discussion are unimportant, it's really the detailed minutae that's essential. Good thing Lincoln didn't accidentally say "Four score and six years ago". We might still have slavery. I forget some of you have nothing better to do than sit on Dropzone 25 hours a day a always be more "right" than everyone else. BTW, how do "post like" something? and further, how do you know I don't know Michael? http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  20. Oh, God forbid I get a fact "sort of" wrong. The point is he got sued due to fun jumpers and any business owner has the right to do whatever they want with their business. and from Spence If someone made an endeavour of yours very difficult, stressful, costly, and took all the fun out of it because of someone else's mistake, you probably wouldn't care to do it anymore either. Hmmm.... http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  21. As I remember it, Michael got sued over those fatalities, it cost him a couple hundred thousand to defend himself (he eventually won). Can't imagine why any DZO would do what was in their best interest. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  22. IMDB.com says it was Rick Sylvester that performed the "ski jump". He also did the climbing sequnce in For Your Eyes Only, which of course was THE best Moore film. They should've made more "dark" Bond films like that. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  23. How does this happen? There are only like 4 GA aircraft in the whole UK! http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  24. Dude, re-read my entire post. "old school" TYPE jumpers. If you don't understand the exact group I am refering to, then nevermind the post. Cause your rebuttal made my point for me. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
  25. I agree. I find that it is the "old school" type jumpers that don't listen, think they know it all once they reach 500 jumps, and do most of the bitching. http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com
