Ratings and Rigging

  • Pro Rating
    Yes
  1. For what its worth the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requires all pilots involved in parachure operation to hold a parachute drop rating. The outline of the rating is very general and the nature of the training and the issue of the rating is determined by the operator.

    OUCH U SAY ?

It doesnt matter what discipline you are involved in. I have had RW jumps that have gone astray where my chest straps were grabbed, it is not something particular to freefly. If someone is taking docks there is a risk they are going to grab something they shouldnt. As was said before protect your handles. It seems to me some people just like the way the 2 pads look. Why let fuction get in the way of fashion aye.
  3. I flew into LA on Fri night from New Zealand where I am still chipping the ice off my car in the morning. Looking forward to some nice warm jumping on Sat morning. After 2 jumps and 2 pack jobs which left my canopy soaking in sweat I gave up. The drive home was almost unbearable with the a/c on the blink, I ended up pouring water over my head in the car until the water became too hot. I tell you, it was worth the price of a jump ticket just to cool off in the breeze at 13000ft
  4. Those arent PT6's, they look like a Garrett or Lycomming turbine of some sort. Just looked it up they are Two 525kW (705ehp) AiResearch (Garrett) TPE3311101B turboprops driving three blade constant speed Hartzell propellers. Now how geeky am I ?
  5. I have just returned to chilly old NZ after a mad tracking weekend at Weston last week Man it was good to get some sun on my back. I cant believe I am talking about London and sun in the same breath. But in all honesty everyone was great, had the Caravan and Skyvan burning all weekend. I know they were both brought in, but everytime an extra aircraft is needed, they seem to be there. I cant talk about any other DZ's in the London area, but for a 70 min train trip from Marleybone, you cant go wrong. Anyway back to knocking the ice of my car in the morning.
  6. G'day everyone. I am a skydiver from New Zealand and I am in LA for a couple of days next week (staying in Torrance) and want to get a days jumping in on Thursday 20 april or Friday 21 april. So if anyone is heading out and wants to share gas let me know.
  7. I am looking at a Birdman suit that a friend is getting rid of as he has given up jumping after 20 years in the sport. The problem is, the cutaway handles for the wings are missing and the former owner is overseas for a while. A rigger here in NZ said he can make them but needed to know if the handles are puds or loops. I am wanting to know any info or if I should just contact Birdman.com

    Slider size

I am jumping a Coe-D 170 which has THE LARGEST slider I have ever seen complete with pockets around the perimeter, all done to try and slow this canopies break neck opening speed. However I am trying to find out what the factory or optimum specs are for this canopy, as if you go to large on the slider size it can in fact start to speed up the opening sequence
  9. G'day, just back tracking through the old (and not so old posts) and saw your one. I live in Auckland NZ and got some free fly pants made up by Garlyn. Between Lynlee and myself we designed them with my choice of fabric and design over a cup of tea. Nothing was too much trouble and the finished product has been amazing with alot of "who made those" comments. Plus with most foreign currencies quite strong against the NZ dollar, it makes alot of sense to buy down here, even with shipping cost.

    Talon FS

I am looking at putting a 170 main with room to take 150 in the future. The researve is 176. I would be getting it through NZ aerosports and Mark didnt mention any size restiction??
  11. I am getting a Safire 169 loaded at 1.3 and jump around 100-200 times a year. What would be the better choice of the two
  12. What is the diff between the two

    Talon FS

G'day all I am looking at purchasing a brand new container after cutting my teeth on a second hand Racer for the past year. The options I have are a Wings or the new Talon FS. As far as cost goes they are both exactly the same, with a similar number of options included. Now I have read a number of reviews on Wings, but not too much on the Talon FS which was designed with Freestyle in mind. Any first hand info would be appriciated

    Coe-D

I have a Coe-d 170 and hate it. Funny how if you ask enough people you will get responses across the board. From what I found out they made them as a hybrid and also 100% F111. My one just didnt seem to flare which resulted in one broken finger last month thank you very much. In fact I am presently trialling a new main as I have had enough. I will say that I was loading it at 1.3 which may be a bit aggressive for this type of canopy. Best of luck in your endevours and I will reitterate that the openings are fast and firm to say the least
  15. Thanks for the info trigger, My rigger was the one who mentioned it was a hybrid but it looks as though a bit more research is needed as to the fabric and if so a change of canapy looks like it will be needed. What is the max loading fo a f111 canapy. I thought 1.3 wouldnt be too bad?? By the way I will try putting a wrap in the toggles when my finger heals
