  1. well im really not sure as I moved cross country shortly after that. I never asked why at the time due to the shock of him saying NO Jumping..... I guess I should talk to my new ENT and see what he has to say about it. The presure I get can be intense and LOUD. LOL The worst is when I deploy below 5K. A normal deployment around 3k and my ears are so tight and then they start what I can only describe as Screaming for the deployment and a few seconds after. The sound is horrible and sometimes Painful. I have at times even had to be real mellow with turns under Canopy due to getting very dizzy with just a single 360 from my ears being so damn clogged. Well I assume it has to do with that since thats really the only time I have that issue. Guess I'll have to go talk to the ENT... Silly me took the word of 1 doc and just didnt want to get confirmation I guess if he was actually right LOL.
  2. I just ask people ...Do you think you want to become a Skydiver? or Are you unsure if this is for you? Depending on their answer I give them my suggestion. If they say they want to be a skydiver and understand the dangers involved then they should do a Real FJC. Be it AFF, S/L, IAD. If they are on the fence or are just there for a ride I say Do a Tandem. Thats what I told My nephew this month when I took him out to the DZ. He said He wasnt sure if it was something he wanted to do more than once but he had to do it atleast once. So he did a Tandem..... Now he Wants to be a Skydiver... I knew when I headed out to the DZ I did not want to be strapped to anyone else. I wanted to be incharge of my life. I had jumped SL in the Army but that is for real comparing Apples and Handgrenades. BTw I told my Recruiter that I wouldnt Sign until I saw on paper that I was going to MP School, Jump School, and would be stationed at Ft. Bragg. I knew I wanted to jump outta Air Planes.
  3. but then again the Lic Requirements have changed as far as Jump #'s :) Hmm is that a 500 Jump D-Lic you got or a 200 Jump D-Lic Like I have:) OK Im going away again:)
  4. ever try using a simple saline type of nasal spray? Not to be confused with something like Afrin...DONT USE AFRIN! they make sevral types of simple saline nasal sprays that will help with keeping your sinus moist and this may help with the nose bleed deal... OK Any of you Docs are free to chime in here:) I went through Major sinus issues b4, during and even now with skydiving. but more now I have issues with my ears rather than my nose... It took my ears like a month to clear after 3 jumps in aug. then I jumped this month and didnt have a single problem for about a week but then started having issues again. so While I know Sky diving doesnt cause all my problems I know it can comlicate them. I have trouble with what seems to be a lack of drainage from my ears. Had one ear doc tell me he was going to put tubes in my ears...I asked can I still Skydive? He told me NO!... I said then Ill let them burst and Ill be deaf but Ill still Skydive.. Never got a second on his No SKydiving. Any of you jumping Docs got any info on if you can or cannot jump with ear tubes? Ok back to the nose thing Ask a doc about a Saline nasal spray:)
  5. http://www.uspa.org/about/images/memsurvey06.pdf has some of the stats your looking for
  6. YOu see TK's avatar... LOL I started jumping in the AFF Program at Zhills when TK was still walking around with hardware from that:) If TK could get back in the air after that lovely pond swoop LOL anyone can... :) I envy you in the fact that you know you can deal with a MAL where as I have yet to Chop one and that kinda bugs me... Get back in the plane and JUMP! Hey TK.... Rosy says HI:)
  7. LOL I did that for my first 100 jumps and a little beyond.. I was always fascinated by how fast things get as your falling towards them:) MAkes for crappy openings and some that slam to crap out of you! especially with a canopy that has any tendancy to open brisk or slam you dont want to be in a slightly head down when it decides to slam!
  8. ok now ya gotta post the video!:)
  9. Anychance we could go back to not bashing the Military folks? It's really getting old. Argue the facts involved with the individuals not where they came from as not everyone in the military or served in the military is as mindless as you are trying to point out. Let go of Old Shit and Move the Fuck on already!
  10. LOL then they need to learn to look back at them and present a GREAT 1 Finger Salute. I am sure that turning back and looking at them might take a couple more seconds :)
  11. Again I would really like to focus on my jump not sit there and do math for everyone on the plane. As far as this goes...If you are trained to count in a Cadence, as we were in Army jump School, it is pretty easy to get an accurate count and be fairly consistent. Example: I asked my wife to run a stop watch and not tell me the times until we were done with 5 attempts. Using the cadence I was trained with in the Army, I counted from 1 thousand, 2 thousand…up to 10 thousand. These are the times she reported. 10.30 seconds 9.89 seconds 10.21 seconds 10.20 seconds 9.80 seconds That’s an Average of 10.08 seconds with only a variance of .50 seconds over 5 attempts. That seems pretty damn consistent to me. I just don’t understand why something so simple has to become some long drawn out Math Class. Most people understand the risk involved in skydiving. If they don’t then they shouldn’t be skydiving. I really dont see a need to make this all so damn technical and scientific for the average jumper. Just seems to me that if you set a basic base time between groups then adjust from there for changing conditions and groups the world will be right. Teach that in FJC's. Teach a Cadence before they jump. Hand them a stop watch and have them practice during class breaks. Seems pretty simple to me..
  12. I am by no means a Moron...But you guys just gave me a Freakin headache.... I think ill just go back to guessing at what time seems sort of safe and go with that..... You know and with what jump pilots seem to make for wages and it seems that alot of them are just there to get hours so they can go on to a better flying Career how many of them do you think are reallubg going to do all that math plus do the other stuff they are doing and be accurate... Maybe we should require all jump Planes to have a second seater who is a Math guy and thats his entire job, to do the MATH. I bet that would do wonders for jump ticket prices... So can we get a "Jump run Seperation for Dummies" version of all this mumbojumbo? Thanx. I mean after all, WE JUMP OUT OF AIRPLANES, there is Risk. What I want is something that works for , NOT REMOVING ALL the Risk but something that gives me some slightly better odds for seperation with out a headache.
  13. dont some DZ do AFF at 16 with Parents Consent?..Seems I have seen some DZ's listing that
  14. yeah thats for sure LOL That works besr when you exit sevral miles upwind:) they start asking was there another plane? LOL
  15. You know if your stressing over a jump I say Funel it on Exit.... Then if they ask ya back you only have up to go from there lol I love H&P's from 13500... Some really memorable views on sunset loads down at Zhills or even in Nc at the SkyDive Place thats now gone. H&P's are a great thing when working with a new Canopy or just working on your Skills under Canopy which I think More people should work on. B.S's.
  16. I agree with you. I do, whatI was trying to explain I think I explained better in my last post above this one. Im not talking about the Barking and yelling part of it but rather the uniformity of it and the structure.
  17. I think your missing my point or maybe I’m just an ill-equipped moron that is unable to explain what he is trying to explain... I’m not talking about the Screaming and yelling part of Military Training. I’m talking about the structure of the training style. Everything is broken down piece by piece. It is then Lad out in a fairly easy format to then be taught. You drill on points and build upon them as you get a "GO" or "NO GO". Of course on a NO GO you wouldn’t go on to the next point. I fail to see how that’s bad. I have seen I's pass someone who barely squeaked by on a jump just because they liked them or thought they understood the principle bur were just having trouble with the execution. Do you think that is ok and SAFE? I don’t. I think it's negligent on the I's part. My point in Military Style Training is the uniformity of the training meaning any instructor can step in and continue the training regardless of who the I was the trained the step b4. I have seen many Civilians love structured type training and for you to say that ALL of them in those days hated it I would call BS. However since you’re talking about NAM then I guess that some people may have already had an aversion to GI's since they having not severed during that war may very well have been the ones that liked to refer to Our Soldiers as Baby Killers and murderers. If that was the case then Screw them and I don’t care...Ok maybe I shouldn’t say I don’t care since I do care but still. Screw them!!! They are the same types that today Piss and Moan about how “This isn’t Fair”, or “This is shitty”, yet do nothing to try and fix the problem other than Piss and Moan. I have personally seen way more safety at DZ run by Prior Military folks or even Current Military folks for that mater than at the DZ's run by the 60's and 70's hippies. Now Granted my experience is limited as I have only visited maybe 10 different DZ's in my Short "Civilian" Jump time but none the less it is my observation and my opinion.
  18. Did anyone else just hit CTRL+ or was it just me? I had no idea that worked lol
  19. Now coming from an Army Background I personally see nothing wrong with Army type Training....Now b4 you flame me let me explain. Most Military Training is very structured and follows direct guidance for lessons. Be they how to fire your weapon or how to make your bed. These training standards are not a bad thing. They create uniformity and in that means that if instructor #1 isn’t there then Inst#2 can pick up and know exactly what #1 did and what needs to be done now. All to often I'm sure we have all seen how one Inst teaches and how different the flow can be from another. I have first hand knowledge of this and have commented on it to various I's and jumpers in general. So to say the Military types and their training mentality is wrong then I ask you what is it you feel they are doing in that part of it that’s so wrong? Drilling people over and over? Helping to keep them alive? This is a dangerous Sport and Life we all have chosen. Why not drill "If" you want to achieve more? Why shouldn’t people get paid a fair enough rate to be able to survive on? to be able to afford some fun jumps and maybe dinner out from time to time? I’m not getting into the politics of this topic as I don’t know Kip all that well other than fun jumping with him a couple times in NC back a few years:) But I will say this.... If you don’t like the currant system be it the USPA or the Fed Gov. Why not stop Bitching about how all the politicians do the same shit and get off your ass and walk in their shoes? Why aren’t you on the Board? Its always easier to say This SUCKS and I hate it..... and not do anything towards fixing what someone might think is Broken. *Edited for Speeeeling*
  20. Well it made sense to me...:) And I too agree that method is of no matter as long as the out come is safe separation and a basic understanding of how that separation is achieved. I have always been one to say things like "OK I understand what your are saying or trying to demonstrate but how does what you are saying give us what we want to happen?" I just like to know why we are doing what we are doing. Not a great thing in the Army but then again I'm not in the Army anymore:) *Edited for Speeeeeeeling*
  21. jump run was into the wind and we seemed to be creeping in a T otter.. Jump run was changed later in the day and 2 passes became the norm that day Sorry for the delayed response but I had to go eat dinner:)
  22. And on a side note to this conversation... when I first started skydiving in 01 I questioned the 45 Rule and was then told ok then count to 8 seconds minimum and extend based on other variables such as size of groups and winds.
