  1. Well, the rumor around here is either Cory or Pat Green had a run-in with the law a few years back in Port Aransas. Maybe he'd look at a concert at the city airport as a way to make amends-- or get even?!? :) I figure what the hell; doesn't hurt to ask him!
  2. This question is for the Texas/ Greater Gulf Coast guys, cause you're the only ones who may know who I'm talking about. A few years ago I was at a concert and noticed Cory was wearing a closing pin on his neck. Is he a skydiver? Did he do a couple of tandems and/or AFF somewhere? If so, what DZ and who were his instructors/ tandemmaster? I'm trying to find an "in" so perhaps he'll come play an unplugged set for us at SkydiveMustangBeach in March!
  3. And oh, by the way, there are pictures from the November boogie on our Facebook page: SkydiveMustangBeach by Skydive Atlas. Feel free to add any photos or videos you may have if you were here!
  4. Pilot-One, I would LOVE to do some jumps down here with the San Marcos crew without the headache of organizing the whole thing again-- I'm in! And he is correct about March-- we're doing another Boogie starting the 17th with the same Caravan and same staff. If there are more fun-jumpers we can certainly send up more loads! See y'all then. Jason T
  5. Fun Jumper Price per load: $20 (maybe even less...we're in discussions on that. Either way, pretty darn cheap!) Landing at the airport: No problem. PLENTY of landing area on the infield, and VERY light aircraft traffic here. Getting sand in your rig does suck, but as a beach-jumping-fanatic, I'm considering offering a "Sand-Removal Clinic" at the end of the weekend; whaddaya think?!? :) JT
  6. Heck, if you're coming all the way from PA, you might as well stick around Texas another weekend for the BEACH JUMPS in Port Aransas! We'll be kicking it off on Thursday the 5th with a Caravan. Bring your flip-flops, surfboards and lawn chairs....
  7. The Caravan is coming from Spaceland. There's an RV park that allows tent camping RIGHT NEXT to the landing area: OntheBeachRVpark.com is their website. There are also lots of beachside condos nearby with really low rates right now-- the young people have left and the old people haven't gotten here from Canada yet!! :)
  8. The Caravan is finally 100% confirmed! Yeah, it's just a Caravan, but... BEACH JUMPS are, in my opinion, the ONLY way to jump! (Maybe it's because my flares suck?) Anyway, it's ON, and only 2 weeks away-- bring your lawn chairs, coolers, tent/RV, BBQ grills, surfboards, firewood, fishing rods, and of course your skydiving rig, cause this ain't no Florida or California beach: you can really kick back, be at home, and enjoy yourself here with minimum hassle, rules, or expense! Mustang Beach Airport, Port Aransas TX, 5-8 Nov.
  9. There's a website the tandem-circus crew set up called "SkydiveMustangBeach.com", but it's really more for booking tandems. Fun jumpers should just show up at the Mustang Beach airport anytime on 5-8 November; call me for more details at 361-537-3776. Later! Jason
  10. A Caravan is coming to Mustang Island (aka Port Aransas) for the November beach boogie! So, it looks like this won't just be a "tandems for tourists" again-- hopefully more fun jumpers will show up for some big-ways! There is no more convenient place in the country for beach landings-- minimal hotels/ structures/ obstacles, light air traffic, WIDE beach, and the airport is an easy 5-minute walk/ 1-minute ride. This is a "homegrown" event at a sleepy airport, not a year-round DZ, so recommend you bring your own packing mats, snacks, lawn chairs, etc etc. November 5th-8th. Y'all come!
  11. Just a couple of 182s.... sorry nothing better! This is only our second year giving this a shot, but it will be a lot of fun. Guaranteed! It's the Mustang Beach Airport in Port Aransas TX in case anyone's confused as to the location. And, plenty of space at my house for anyone visiting. 3 spare beds and plenty of floor space.
  12. Addendum to this thread: It appears there may be beach-jumping opportunities two weekends in a row! The first will be 12-15th and mostly fun jumps depending on demand. Things will kick into higher gear the following Thursday thru Sunday (19-22nd) with more! Email me or check out skydiveMustangBeach.com.
  13. Mustang Beach (Port Aransas) during Spring Break again this year-- obviously the goal is to round up some tandems to pay for aircraft ferry, but don't go thinking there won't be some fun-jumping opportunities! This is only the 2nd year we've done this, but there's lots of potential-- any and all Texas jumpers invited. Email me for more details or suggestions on where to stay! Official Dates are 19-22 March. Y'all come!
  14. Well, Spence, thanks for mentioning me! This is Jason Towns checking in, and yes, I'm coming. However, is there any chance the airplane will be staying any longer than "mid-day" on Sunday? I probably will not arrive in time to jump Saturday at all. And I must say I did NOT start the Destin beach jumps; Bob Holler did-- rest his soul. I just kept em going after his ex-wife's dropzone closed. Contact Kenny Girot ASAP to get flyers up in the bars and you'll get LOTS more tandems-- if he works fast. His email is [email protected]. He's the only local skydiver I know of. He should have time to get some stuff posted in AJ's and the boathouse by Friday evening. And just for everybody's info: I just returned today from a beach boogie in Rocky Point Mexico, about 4 hours south of Phoenix AZ. GREAT time! I highly recommend it. RV rental cost me $700 for 5 days and I camped right next to the landing area. That is all. Out, here! JT
  15. I have an RV reserved in Phoenix on the 26th-- rolling down to Mexico sometime mid-morning. I've got an extra couple of beds in the RV. If anyone wants to join me, send me a note at: [email protected] Get back to me quick; if nobody else is in, I may invite the girlfriend-- in which case we may need our "privacy"! ;) Quote
  16. Anybody got more photos and/or video from Bob's Memorial Service and skydive they could post? Or links to where some may be? I've only seen one set so far.
  17. Anybody else have photos they could put up here? Or will Skydive Deland have a link to some? I was there but didn't take any photos on the ground or in the air. What an awesomely well-organized memorial! The synergy between the various eulogies, the proper military honors and the skydive with the ashes was just a heck of an orchestration. Nice work Bob Hallett! The other-brother-Bob would have been proud. Jason T
  18. The "IxtapaBoogie" website seems locked up or somehow malfunctioning. What are the dates of the Boogie exactly? Where the heck is Ixtapa? Do we fly into Cancun? Thanks!
  19. Know anybody that would wanna join me on this RV deal outta Phoenix? All my peeps are backing out! It'd be a shame for me to have all that space and whiskey to myself....
  20. 25 April-- RV reserved. Run for the border and hit the Rocky Pont boogie. I hear the fishing's good too. If anybody wants to join in, give me a shout.
  21. Speaking of South Texas jumpers, anybody from this area want to join me for a trip to Phoenix for the Rocky Point, Mexico boogie? I already have an RV reserved-- all you gotta do is buy a plane ticket to PHX for 25 April. Returning the RV on the 29th. Later! Jason T/ Corpus Christi
