  1. A 182 has been purchased, staff has been found, and the weather is beautiful! Beach jumps are available from now until the weather sours! Stay tuned for the first "boogie" weekend for which the Caravan shall return. But until then, we at least have the Cessna for you. Please call first to ensure we don't suddenly schedule a "fishing day"! 361-537-3776
  2. Once again you can spend a holiday weekend jumping barefoot over the gulf coast! It's just a 182 "jump club" but dang it's fun! Port Aransas TX starting Friday afternoon.
  3. Did you get VanBuren's 182? Who's gonna fly it? I suppose you're qualified Jason LOL...there aren't any big guns like the Spectre though. Oh...what are you going to charge to put the 182 up? Yep, VBs 182. And I'm thinking we'll need about $120 per hour plus fuel to put er up. Maybe a little less for "special friends"! And yes, I'll fly it. Sometimes anyway.... I have another couple of volunteers I'm going to train for the job as well. What I really need now is a TANDEMMASTER!! (or two!) They don't have to commit to anything long-term, just notify us ANYTIME you'd like to come down and do a few jumps on any given day or weekend. Our job is to produce the customers! Y'all spread the word. 361-537-3776 JT
  4. Our permanent, one-of-a-kind beach DZ is taking off! We still have several Caravan weekends planned-- the next being Aug 20-22. Additionally, a quite cherry 182 will be in onsite to stay starting next week. Any funjumpers interested in a beach vacation and a few loads while you're here, just let us know. www.SkydiveSouthTexas.com
  5. Hey Todd-- If you find a staff you can send them down to me when it gets cold up there! I, too, am starting a 182 DZ-- in Port Aransas TX. (WAY down south!) All jumps are on the beach! It can get cloudy and windy here in winter, but it seldom gets below 50 deg! Jason Towns 361-537-3776 www.SkydiveTheIsland.com
  6. Well, come *if* ya can *when* ya can. It's best to start out small anyway! We gotta walk before we run... Blue Skies! JT
  7. The Port Aransas TX "Beach Jump Club" is up and running-- upcoming dates are: 30 July - 1 Aug 20-22 Aug 4-6 Sep Yes, we're competing with the Deadman Boogie in Temple (probably not smart!), but we gotta keep it going! Maybe there are some hardcore folks who like to drive (and don't like to sleep) who can visit both! www.SkydiveTheIsland.com
  8. This Event has been postponed by 1 week due to Hurricane Alex-- or rather his "residue"... We are still experiencing low ceilings and occasional rainshowers even though the storm passed almost 48 hours ago! The Caravan is re-scheduled to arrive on Friday the 9th at 3:00 PM and stay for the weekend! Hope folks can still make it.
  9. Don't know if anyone is watching this old thread anymore, but my local FAA "FSDO" is making some very firm judgements on the subject of Beach Landings in Texas.... and I'm trying to decide between fight or flight! According to the AC-105, it is the "parachutists" responsibility to land in an "open area" that's "clear of spectators" which is the responsibility of the "ground crew". Easy! But... they have decided (after only ONE visit, during SPRING BREAK mind you!) the beaches of Mustang Island aren't considered an "open area" anytime of year! How do I fight this? I'm starting a DZ here and am being told I need the FAAs permission to land on the beach. I feel like a Louisiana Fisherman: I wanna clean up some oil to save my business. I get told I need permission from the Feds to clean up the oil in the method I've chosen. Ok, I'll ask permission. Permission denied. Have a nice day.... And my business dies.
  10. Alex Update: The tropical storm shouldn't affect the Boogie-- it is predicted to make landfall 2 days before the plane even arrives! It should be well inland by Saturday leaving clear skies behind it!
  11. We need one more videographer for Beach Tandems! Pay is $40 per video ($47 if you can edit on-the-spot or overnight!)
  12. Another "mini-boogie" going down at the Coast! Caravan arrives around 3PM on Friday, July 2nd; will stay til interest is gone on Monday. Couple of Lessons Learned from Last time: -"B" License jumpers can still come, but please KNOW your capabilities! The landing area will be bigger this time, but it still ain't 10 acres. -Bring Flotation Gear unless you are a D-license or above. -If anybody has little tents/ awnings/ shade available, bring em. We have several, but more is better in Texas in July. -Swooping will be monitored closely: anybody flying fast enough to scare the public or worry the cops will be asked to leave. Speed limit on the beach is 15mph for cars-- we need to try to adhere to that. (Exceptions may be made when the beach is empty; early morning, late evening...) -No inflatables or similar items; when the locals see stuff falling, they call 911. We gotta keep a low-profile if we want to keep this going! Sorry to be a SQUARE, but believe us, you'll still have FUN!!!
  13. We've put the word out that packers are being requested, but none have specifically called and said they're coming. That may not mean squat-- 3 or 4 may just spontaneously show up! But, be prepared to pack your own. We'll have tarps and as much shade as we can produce. Summer has begun and most professionals (packers, riggers, tandem-masters, etc) are committed and working full time at established dropzones. So the "South Texas Beach Jump Club" is gonna have to be a self-contained, self-supporting operation! :)
  14. A few more details: -A few folks have been calling asking if there will be packers. We can't say, but if you are one and wanna come make a little $$, let me know. -Prices are as follows: Registration (w dinner/ party)- $30 Registration (jumps only)- $20 Tickets: $25 each Active Duty and/or Veterans of Foreign Wars get one free jump! LOTS of stuff to do in this little beach town! A great place to spend a holiday weekend, especially with a turbine sitting at the airport!
  15. We certainly don't want to steal thunder from the "Original" Memorial Day Beach boogie over on the Alabama State Line, but if you're unable to get over there, join us for a Caravan in Port Aransas TX starting May 28th. We're only utilizing 2 Tandem masters, so you know what that means: LOTS of fun loads. If there are 10 people ready, it flies! B-License minimum. Find a place to stay at the "Skydiver Rate" through www.StarkeyProperties.com See y'all soon!
  16. Word on the street is "SkydiveAtlas" has a long history of having great ideas and initiating them with great success.... then he shoots himself in the foot and flushes the whole thing down the drain as a result of ego, alcohol, drugs, and more ego. This is research we wish we'd done a long time ago, but it appears to be exactly what's happening with this boogie. Good luck if you go.
  17. Be advised, due to an accounting issue, we are only taking cash or checks for registration/ jump tickets at this boogie.
  18. So taking 358/22 from I-37 to 361 is bad? If you are showing up past mid morning, You definitely want to take I37 to 358 EB to Pk rd 22 (Flour bluff) across the causeway, Left at 1st light (361) - North to Port A From northern areas if you take 35 to 361 in Aransas Pass, have plenty of time, lots to drink & lots of fuel, Ferry lines in excess of 1 1/2 hrs are very common during spring break even on weekdays. Remember, evening commute back onto the mainland across the ferry will be very long as well Well, we just completely contradicted each other and I must admit, it may be just as bad either way... I've never tried to cross the Ferry during Spring Break, but I figured it HAD to be better than the Causeway/ 361/ Park road 22... So both ways may very well suck if you try to roll in mid-day... early morning or late afternoon is best. Folks coming south from Houston, use the Ferry and cross your fingers! Those coming from San Antone/ Corpus, go for the Causeway. Godspeed to all! JT
  19. Looks like this thing could classify as an actual "Boogie" this spring rather than just a couple of dudes jumpin a rented plane! Twin Otter & Helicopter gonna be there for sure. Anybody else thinking of going? If you're trying to go there anytime after 10AM, it's best to take the long way around Corpus Christi Bay and use the ferry into Port Aransas. There will be a massive Spring Break traffic jam on the Padre Island Bridge & turnoff all afternoon most days.
  20. This thread is complex-- I am a simple thinker, so here we go: When I first started jumping, FreeFlyers always exited FIRST, cause they fell faster and would be WELL out of the way long before the Flat-flyers exited, did their thing, and pulled. At some point in the last 3-5 years, this seems to have changed at every DZ I visit. But the old way still makes sense to me. Isn't there a much higher chance of a free-flyer suddenly showing up in a group of bellyflyers as they are tracking/pulling, than the other way around?
  21. Anybody looking for a primo RV site for this Boogie? My wife & I will be cancelling our reservation in the "OntheBeachRVPark", spot #A6, only 100 yds from the landing area. It's $42 per night. Contact me if you want it. We'll hang onto it for another week just in case.
  22. Hit us up on Facebook with the same question. There's a "Skydive Mustang Beach by SkydiveAtlas" page. Check through the fans, put up some comments, etc. I think you'll find some freaks comin' who'll join you! JT
  23. Looks like there's gonna be an Otter and a strong possibility of a helo for this beach boogie. They're doing discounted pre-registration on the website: www.SkydiveMustangBeach.com Dates are 17-28 MARCH in Port Aransas TX
  24. It's a Texas thing....we have our own musicians down here and somehow we keep em a secret from the rest of the country! (Except the ones that suck-- we send those to Nashville or Los Angeles, and they keep em.) Anyway, thanks for the info; got what I needed to know. I'll snoop around San Marcos next time I'm there and see if I can learn more.
