I'm glad you took the time to evaluate and demo the canopies and even more so that you have chosen the Aerodyne Pilot as your first choice in canopy.

Just to let you know we at Aerodyne think your more than an average skydiver, as you FlyAerodyne ;)

Please keep in-touch with any questions you might have, or just for a chat. And when I'm out at your DZ, lets go share a skydive.

There are many great canopies on the market today and they are made by the best in the industry, and like cars the price vs value will be a part of your choice, along with how you find the canopy when you demo it from the manufacturer.

The Pilot is a great canopy and an excellent all round every day jumping canopy, it has a great following from those new to the sport, looking for their first reliable, fun to fly canopy, and then those jumpers who work and jump hard in the sport and want a fun to fly reliable canopy at a higher wingloading, without the added complexities of elliptical or cross braced.

Some of the benefits that come with flying a Pilot are
    - Great soft on-heading openings
    - Color coded line attachments for easier PRO packing
    - Easy to control in all flight modes.
    - Designed by pilots for pilots.
    - Moderate “planform factor” provides excellent turn response.
    - Responsive flair

We have a great demo program running and your more than welcome to get in touch and have us send a Pilot out to you to try for a few weekends.

All in all it was good, also got to watch a friends friend land in a tree and have the local EMS come fetch her ....

Your fears are rational and just like most people who come to do a tandem skydive anywhere in the world. Just remember that your tandem master will have been certified by their association in getting their rating.

I've only done about 600 or so tandems, both in America and South Africa, and the thing that strikes me the most is when the customer and the Instructor have a good repour the skydives seem to be benificial to both.

I always try the mood fun and festive, but professional, much like you will experience while out doing your tandem. There will be the usual jokes and banter about your fears, the dive tc, take it all with a pinch of salt ;)

On the ride in the aircraft, look around, breath, chat, listen, smile and keep your eyes open.

Have fun in January and post back with your experience.

My suggestion would be to log onto our website and go play with the design and colors of the rig, so you can see what best suits you, and you can also print them out.

  6. Bev,

Thanks for setting them straight on this.

    One thing to think about:
"There is a new movie coming out with Leonardo called blood diamonds. That is also not a true reflection of the mining industry here."

There is a reality behind this movie that has nothing to do with the day to day running of the economics of Africa. During the war in the DRC between two radical factions, diamonds were used to purchase weapons by the armies on both sides, this war left hundreds of thousands dead, mutilated or displaced.

These diamonds that were bought by Europe and America, were in fact "Blood Diamonds" illegal and sold for the purpose of death.

If it was not for the ones who now point fingers at Africa for the labor conditions, these diamonds would never have been sold or traded for weapons.

Make me think of Guns for Oil ....... or is it democracy?

Although our Icon harness Container System is already comfortable, the Spacer Foam adds to that comfort. Both on the back pad, but also on the leg pads.

It also to a degree allows some ventilation between you and your rig .... helps on those real hot days in Summer.

Let me know if you need any more info on any of our gear, and i'll gladly help.

  8. We took a student while at SkyDance last year, the TM insisted on a soft collar for the student during the dive to help keep the neck stable, just incase of a harder than usual opening.

They also made sure the conditions were good for a soft landing, but the student was a small light guy so it made it easy for the TM to get a good landing our of it.

On the video the TM is seen holding the students head back during deployment to help lower the whip lash risk of a harder opening.

My brother who has a fused C4 & 5 has been advised by his GP not to jump, but he being in the medical field (nurse) thinks he would be OK with a soft collar and a good TM.

Like with everything there is risk involved, and she will be at a higher risk than most students, this is a risk she needs to understand fully, a temninal reserve ride could very straining on her neck, and these are things to take into consideration, but as I know all the TM's at the DZ your jump at, i would suspect she would be fine if she went ...

In my opinion I would get Dawie to do the jump, as he's good on landings and is flying the Sigma main

I suggest you demo them all and jump them as many times as possible before deciding to purchase any of them.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like to demo a Pilot 210, you will be very pleased with the Pilot in openings and general performance and landings.

Indeed the Sabre and Safire are good canopies and compare well against the Pilot.

Actually, I heard him say that it's about his ex-girlfriend who broke up with him and he saw her on the subway with her new beau. Still a little stalkerish though.

We all need stalkers ... makes us know that we are loved in some weird creepy way :P
