Since I made a small step (no step is too small in my opinion) forward today on my journey towards my A license, I decided I would begin this thread which will serve as my little niche of DZ.com for posting my progress so I wouldn't have to make new threads all the time. It will be slow, tedious, and essentially comprised of my endeavor to finance the goal, but nonetheless, I will persist. Even if I only make a step or two ever month. I was just thinking today about how I've really found a goal and a direction with skydiving and it came out of nowhere. But I know something that can be helpful for achieving your goals is developing some accountability to people outside yourself. So that's what this thread is. It will help me keep track of my progress, and keep anyone who couldn't find anything better to do informed of it as well. My financial goal is to save up $2200 for my AFF course. ("STP" if I end up going to Spaceland, semantics I know) This includes more than just the cost of the program. So you read the fatality reports and other stories told by the long-timers in the sport. But I can't help but wonder what makes people, with plenty of experience mind you, make what to me seems to be a simple mistake, requiring conscious effort to do, and getting killed/severely maimed as a result. Specifically thinking of low toggle turns for the purpose of avoiding a tree or other fixed object, or to avoid landing down/cross wind. Am I not correct in my assumption that more effort should be made after being under good canopy to make your approach safe and clean? If you have a mal/cutaway which subsequently totally blows your approach plans is one thing, but I'm guessing this is not always the case. Also, would you say that there is a general predisposition among people to do everything they can to not PLF the "subpar" landings when a PLF would be appropriate? If one has to choose between jacking up your rig or jacking up your skeleton, I'm taking the former. I dunno, this is just part of my frequent contemplations of the sport. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

None taken. I was thinking of having a kitten-skin comforter. Seriously though, the first thing I thought of after I posted was that I should have accounted for flannel sheets.
