  1. Purple Haze... "Excussseee me while I kiss the sky" - can't go wrong with that.
  2. So incredibly jealous. I'm doing that one of these days.
  3. I actually drive an '03 - they're great cars. Last I looked, it's a bit of a buyer's market; you should be able to find some pretty kickass deals on decent cars if you're willing to wait a bit and put some funds together for a C5/C6 even. If you're sticking to pre-C5, I agree; the C4s are bleh (the ones you're calling Trans Am-ish, even though I kinda like TAs). Other than that, some good advice in this thread
  4. Just figured I'd ask. Always looking for new stuff.
  5. Not a current student or licensed jumper (tragedy, I know... sigh), but I was also slightly nauseous under canopy on my tandem. I was perfectly fine with the jump otherwise and had no problem with the height / idea of leaping from a plane / the usual suspects, so I also attributed this to harness fit.
  6. Very nicely done, mate - nice choice of music, as well.
  7. Things like that, along with the aforementioned snotty commentary, will definitely push me to another dz, no questions asked. Pretty damn pathetic, and even more so when they tried to disable right-click / highlighting (yeah, because that's not hard to work around or anything) instead of just removing that garbage. (also another semi-geek here, so nice find on the not-so-hidden text.)
  8. Surprisingly enough, I missed that HSW piece when I was poking around. Thanks!
  9. My skydiving experience is so far limited to a couple tandems and an interest in going AFF (which probably won't be for at least a little while); in the meantime, does anyone happen to have a link or two to some detailed overviews on how all of the gear works together? Thanks.
  10. I haven't found anything in brief searching, but has this ever been mentioned? I know there's a dropzone in Beeville, a little over an hour away, but I would imagine that with ~282,000 people, a DZ in Corpus might just attract a few people. I've been to the Beeville one but figured I'd ask.
  11. Tried, but it got bounced back: : The e-mail message could not be delivered because there are no users here by that name. Ruh roh.
  12. Subject says it all. Some time ago, I emailed them asking about what was going on since there had been no updates for a long, long time, and received no response; now, the Yahoo! store they had is password-protected entirely. When did that happen? And does anyone know of another source to get necklaces similar to the ones they had? I really liked a few of them. Of course, I'm still thinking about trying to make one since the pics a few of you posted in my last closing pin necklace thread were amazing, but I'd like to know
  13. I took a look; are they still taking orders? I emailed awhile back and got no response, and last I checked, I couldn't browse products.
  14. Interested in picking a nice, understated one up. Anyone care to share where they found theirs/vouch for some retailers?
  15. Same thing happened to me, and everyone else covered it perfectly :)
  16. hah, it looks like the container hit the frame of the aircraft on exit which resulted in that way early deployment, or so I'm told - obviously, nobody had a clear view of the TM's hand, but that's the going explanation at this point.
  17. I can definitely understand where you're coming from... I've had two tandems in the past couple weeks (first was an accidental reserve(!) ride from ~10,000, that was interesting), and there is really something very addicting about it
  18. Did it again - went beautifully this time. :) I finally realized something interesting, though. In my newbie haze the first time with the open on exit, I did not notice that it was the reserve, not the main, that deployed. I do remember seeing something fall to the ground when that happened, though being less than comprehensive with the equipment, I'm not quite sure what I was watching Nothing like freefall, though
  19. I'm told the container struck the aircraft on exit as far as that premie opening goes. Not that I'm too thorough in my knowledge of equipment yet, but it sounds like that could do it. Weather permitting, I'll be trying this again this weekend.
  20. yep, shot the shit - just asked him about the early opening, he pointed out a few things in the air, I asked about how long he's been doing this, all that fun stuff. Unfortunately, it never got to letting me fly the canopy. Calling tomorrow to get the final word on what happened / probably going Friday.
  21. I'm curious to why people think the DZ giving Veri another tandem+video is so amazing. To be honest, I wouldn't expect anything less. If you've paid for a tandem "skydive", then that's what you should get. Very cool for Veri - as she get's two jumps for the price of one - but if the DZ hadn't of given her another tandem, then it would be very wrong. - Dan He, actually. It's just a nick that was a shortened form of something else I used years ago; it kinda stuck from there And yep, two for the price of one, although I was definitely expecting something to come out of it considering what happened. The fact that they did it is still great, though.
  22. Not actually sure what the rig was, but yep, Cessna 182. I'm 5'10" @ ~192lbs, and the TI was much taller than me (not sure about his weight, though).
  23. Yes, I definitely asked; he didn't seem 100% sure, but it does seem as if it was with the drogue. I know the sayings about assumption and all, but as a newbie to actually doing this, I was asking for educational purposes.
  24. So I finally get out there to tandem and see how I like it. Uneventful ascent to 10,500ft, about a minute prior to which I was hooked up to my TI. Shuffle towards the door, get my right foot out, took me a few seconds to realize that it was okay to not hold on to anything even though I was hanging by a damn harness, and off we went... ... and had an opening on exit followed by a canopy ride from almost the very beginning. On the bright side, we were clear of the aircraft on deployment, or so I'm told. The only thing that was confirmed before I left the DZ was that the Cypres did not fire; other than that, they were waiting on a review of the footage shot to see what could've gone wrong. So, for those of you more in the know than myself, what could have caused that? (I did walk out with a cert for a free jump + video, so that wasn't all that bad. :) )
