  1. Yea!! It is definately an addiction!! I just watched someone's skydiving video on My Space and I am sitting here with my heart pounding, my hands clammy....Adreneline pumping....but no way to get a "skydive fix" right now. Dang!! I have worked in Addictions and Mental Health most of my adult life. Yes! It is an addiction!! What is more due to health conditions I probably should not jump again (Oh, "probably" hell I should NOT jump again) but I am sitting here trying to figure out a way to safely jump with out breaking any more bones. What an addiction! Any suggestions? It's never too late to have a happy childhood!! Have a happy day!! Janet
  2. I am more like my dad--- unfortunately I have inherited some of his less than ideal genetic traits as well. My mother tends to be a very negative woman. My dad would talk to anyone and I am pretty much the same way...There are times when strangers start talking to me standing in the check out line or where ever and I will hear alot more than I ever wanted to know....BTW I am a (mental health/substance abuse) counselor/social worker...so talking and listening is my business...dang how did I get off on that?......analyze analyze analyze Of course looking at who I am and why Im and where I am are part of my training......J
  3. Civil and Criminal Court-- My career has taken me into court too many times and too many times I have had to testify. Ugh!! Then there was the jury duty thing--(and then when I witnessed a crime and the court subpeoened me to testify to revoke someone's parole.) Dang!! And I am going to court again tomorrow for my job. But not subpoened or summoned. Oh yea and then there was my divorce...Ugh!!!
  4. I did not get anything when I got my Bad Ass degree. I did get to work though the night of my undergrad graduation ceremony. Dang!! What was I thinking!!!???? My son got less than $2000 last May when he graduated. Usually $50 to $100 (less from some). Congrats Jen!! I hope late Recognition is better than none!!!!
  5. WOW! I can identify with what you are going through--cold turkey withdrawal from skydiving. I broke both legs during a landing June3, 2006--two surgeries, 3 blood transfusions, titanium rod, screws, pins and bone grafts later I am still going through physical therapy and pain. I have had some health problems and now have issues with my bones. My landing was not that hard but my bones are weak now. To make a long story short in the months prior to the accident the doctors were looking for bone cancer or tumors. I had fractured vertabraes and ribs-- from what --who knows. Luckily no cancer or tumor But I think my skydiving days are done. And that is hard to say and admit. I still hang out at the DZ. But for me I have to admit that the risks are not work it any more. Damn! I never thought that I would say that or admit it! I hope that you heal quickly and completely. Keep us posted It's never too late to have a happy childhood!! Have a happy day!! Janet
  6. Hello Bobbi- Perhaps you are feeling powerless as though there are things in your life that you do not have control of or power over! I am a strong believer in dreams and that they are a way for us to process the millions of stimuli--visual, auditory, emotional, intellectual etc that we experience everyday. Are you heading in a new direction in your life... and well we do not have an inexpensive addiction (to skydiving) in fact our addiction can be rather costly and with sensory over load to boot. But what do I know? I will ask you to think about the feeling you had when you awoke from the dream and when did you last have that feeling---what was going on? Dreams can be our nightmares or positive goals for our future--we get to choose It's never too late to have a happy childhood!! Have a happy day!! Janet
  7. As a mother and a new skydiver I think that it is wise to be concerned and cautious. A skydiving insructor friend of mine suggested that I get my physicians permission before skydiving due to my age and medical history. I am glad that he (strongly) suggested it...Now I know i am not putting the DZ and the people there in a situation that might be difficult for them as well as for me, Also they take plenty of precautions with me because they know my potential touble areas. My son is 21 and WILL NOT skydive and just shakes his head about me skydiving. He does not express concern about my safety but has said that he knows that I would do it anyway...besides he reminds me that I used to do crisis intervention and would be in more potentally dangerous situations than skydiving. Frankly if my son had wanted to do this before I investigated skydiving for myself I probably would have freaked!! I hope your sons doctor gives him permission and that you investigate the safety of the DZ and staff. My DZ is wonderfull---staff are skilled, knowledgeable and caring and FUN!! I feel safe at my DZ--and with the staff!! And that is important!! I know that it is difficult to let our children take risks but risk taking is a right and dignity issue! i do not mean taking stupid dangerous risks but after gaining information and evaluating the danger of the risk taking. 8. Thanks for the warm and friendly welcomes! I cannot wait to get my skydivin' "fix" again! My DZ is only open on weekends and Tuesdays 3 pm to dusk and this past week end we had wind, rain and just down right yucky skydiving weather. My non skydiving friends and my family do not understand!! Anyway thanks!! Progress not Perfection.... It's never too late to have a happy childhood!! Have a happy day!! Janet
  9. Hello! I am 51 years young and did my 1st tandem on April 8, 2006 and did my 1st 2 static lines on April 15, 2006!! Our winds get a little choppy around here and weather does not always allow us to jump when we want to ... I can assure you that if not for weather I would have more than 3 (ok 1 tandem and 2 static lines) done. I seem to spend alot of time at the DZ hanging out but not jumping out. (due to wind) I love this sport!! The canopy ride is soooo peaceful and awesome!! And well my limited freefall experience is sensory overload at its best!! It is so funny some people think that it is great that I am skydivng. Most people when they first find out ask ARE YOU CRAZY? My response is usually some thing along the line of either "Well, Yeh!" or "Do you know me!?" It's never too late to have a happy childhood!! Have a happy day!! Janet
  10. I would recommend this DZ to anyone!! I have started skydiving at age 51--The staff and other skydivers here are very friendly and more than willing to help and answer questions. DZ is very family oriented and friendly. Good debriefing after student (& licensed) jumps. Many if not most jumps are videoed. Staff and others are very supportive and encouraging--and are good at offering suggestions, encouragement and praises. Nice country setting with plenty of landing space. Wonderfull scenery.
