  1. i agree with skytash, you should consider Netheravon, its fairly easy to get from london, just down the M3. at Netheravon quite a few people stay for the whole weekend and sometimes (well quite often) on the sat night there is a party for one reason or another, if there isnt a party people still stay and chill out in the bar. most people drive to Nethers but you can get there by public transport it just takes longer. you should come along to the london skydivers meet, it’s a good chance to meet other skydivers from around london and you might find someone who lives near you who could be able to give you a lift to a DZ. 2. i went to gap (france) with my uni club and bristol uni club at the end of june and we flew with ryanair. i dont have my own rig but about 6 peope on our trip took their own rigs. At first the people on checkin at stanstead said that rigs were not allowed as hand luggage, so we asked to speak to a supervisor and showed them the tsa letter and cypress card; after this they agreed to let the rigs on as hand luggage. security didnt give us any problems, they didnt even ask any questions. on the way back checkin went fine at grenoble airport, but this time it was security that was the problem. they wanted to open the rig, including the reserve. they said that without doing this the rig would have to be checked in, so we asked for a supervisor and were finally allowed to take the rig on as hand luggage. we were surprised by this at grenoble, as there is a dz at the airport! anyway everything worked out fine in the end, they wernt bothered by the size or weight of the rigs. 3. I'd better join in if were all plugging unis. Portsmouth is the place to be. We jump at Nethers too, it’s a great DZ. We have (I think) the cheapest jump tickets… only £10 for each RAPS jump! It makes the Bristol uni students so jealous. We’re off to Gap in France at the end of June (with Bristol uni aswell)… It’s gonna be so good! But seriously uni is a great time to take up skydiving, especially if it is subsidised by your uni. University of Portsmouth Skydive Club
  4. Does anyone know when it will actually be on Top Gear? What date will it be shown? I missed it tonight (Sun 14th May), hope it wasn't on tonights show. University of Portsmouth Skydive Club
  5. I've gotta say I'm shocked that you were put onto FF after just 1 S/L, 1 good dummy pull and 1 failed dummy pull. In the UK you HAVE to do 2 good S/L jumps. then 3 consecutive good dummy pulls before you go on to FF. If you enjoy skydiving and really want to do it don't give up. Like others have said there are loads of options for you; try another instructor, try another DZ, take the S/L course again, try AFF. If you really want to skydive you will get there; that’s what people have told me recently as I'm getting really frustrated as I still can't get a good exit. I know I'll get there in the end; in the meantime I'm just enjoying jumping and learning as much as I can about the sport. University of Portsmouth Skydive Club
  6. My parents signed the form to let me to do a tandem jump when I was 16, they thought I was mad wanting to do it, and as soon as I landed and said I wanted to do it again they were wondering what they had started, although it helped them loads to see how professional everyone at the DZ was. Unfortunately I didn't have the money to jump until I started uni in Nov (the joys of subsidised jumps!) but I think their view of skydiving is starting to change and there starting to accept it, they still like me to text them after each jump though. lol. Other members of my family think I’m totally mad for ‘jumping out of a perfectly good airplane’. My aunty even thinks that I have something missing from my brain. 7. If you want to get a feel for skydiving I would recommend doing a tandem rather than a static line jump. I did a tandem for my 16th b'day and thats what got me hooked, it allows you to experience freefall which is the best part of skydiving. You might want to check out The BCPA Website, it has details about university skydiving clubs in the UK. If you wanted to start reading up on skydiving you might want to get Parachuting: The Skydiver's Handbook by Dan Poynter and Mike Turoff. It contains loads of information everything from the different training methods to equipment etc. University of Portsmouth Skydive Club
  8. Hi, You've found the right place to find out information, its great on here. Where are you thinking of going to Uni? Uni is a great time to take up skydiving because as a sports club the uni often subsidises jumps. I'm at uni in Portsmouth and we get static line jumps for only £10, I think it's probably the cheapest any uni does it for. It does become expensive once you start buying gear, but its well worth it. 9. I did a bungee once, but that was after doin a tandem skydive so i didn't find it that much of a rush, although i did kinda find the bungee more scary than the skydive. University of Portsmouth Skydive Club

  12. Hi. Yea, there were 3 guys from Exeter on our RAPS course on the 19/20th Nov. Hopin the weather will be ok this weekend so I can get some more jumps in. University of Portsmouth Skydive Club
  13. I could have done AFF but my uni skydiving club aren't running an AFF course until the summer, when there gonna do a trip to France. But I didn't wanna wait until then, as I've really wanted to take up skydiving since I did a tandem a couple of years ago. [PRE] University of Portsmouth Skydive Club
  14. Hi, I have a suggestion; would it be possible to put a UK section in the international area? This would allows members from the UK to post information / questions specific to jumping in the UK. Simon University of Portsmouth Skydive Club
  15. Just thought that I would say hi to everyone on here as I have just registered. I completed my first static line jump at the weekend, it was amazing, even though it was freezing cold. I can't wait to do my next jump now. I jump through my university skydiving club who jump at Netheravon, an army dropzone. If anyone else jumps here let me know. Simon
