  1. That is right! I was out of jumping for over 30 yrs and just got back in! I bought lessons for my 2 sons and I just could not just watch any longer. I stopped jumping in 1974 to chase an airline career. BUT, I'm back and lovin it! Lot of changes to learn. My avatar might give you some idea what it was like back in the 60's. At that time, what you see was standard gear. A PC was the thing, then in early 70's I jumped a ParaPlane. Any more questions kid? Just kidding Wayne Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  2. What are the advantages of booties? Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  3. Thanks to all of you for the input! I think I'm going to try it! Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  4. Whtch out for the air shots! Airtwardo, the rig's DOM is 1998. There was a mod done on the riser covers a few years later. Did you have it done? Have you heard of the problem? Thanks Wayne Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  5. *** That's what I have for a container & canopy... Great product, Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  6. Can anyone tell me about a Quasar II ? I'm considering one for my son's first rig with a 190 in it. Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  7. The team picture reminds me of all the hair we had in the late 60's. Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  8. True, but like I said , if ya did it right it was, well let's call it a round semi flare! Good imatation maybe? Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  9. Yes you can! On a hard turn the PC would pendulem slighty foward with full brakes at the bottom of the turn. Had to be done JUST right! No where near as much as a square! But, only with a turn as you needed the centrifical force of the turn to do it! Otherwise No! Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  10. Please excuse my ignorance, but what are you talking about? Thanks Wayne Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  11. Gas expantion? Happens every load!!! Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  12. a, Wartload I know what you mean! I had 500 plus jumps in early 1969. Only 3 DZs close by. Everyone knew me, taught students at every Dz, just never bothered to get the licence. Some did, some of us didn't! It wasn't important as it is now. At over 500 jumps in 1969 you tell me what # I would have had. Don't know! BUT, I wish I had! I lost my logbooks sometime in the last 34 yrs sence I stoped jumping to chase a airline career, and now that I have started back jumping I'm having to do the AFF program. But I'm told it may be somewhat abbreviated because of the job I'm doing and the pictures of me I can produce. Hindsite is 20/20! Wayne Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  13. Thanks Strato, I'll do that! hope you had a great holliday season! I was in the army in Ft Jackson in 1969 ,just before I went to the Nam, when the movie came out and I watched it on base! Made me very homesick! All I could think about was my poor PC sitting at home wiyhout me!I want my 2 sons to see it as they just started jumping with me! Not many skydiving movies out there now!Wayne Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  14. Thanks! Wayne Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!

  16. As a jumper and a pilot all I can say is "don't do it". You can not only cause sinus pain but you can potentualy blow an ear out! You may not know if you have any ear blockage! Just my 2 cents as an airline capt for 22yrs and a jumper for 37! Wayne Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  17. Does anyone know how I can obtain a dvd, copy, tape of this 1969 movie "Gypsy Moths"? Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  18. Hey Pop, Seaking of packing faster, did you use a PC for your record # of jumps? You had to be one tired puppy after that day! I would love to have been there! Been thinking about you alot and I think the last time I saw you was at your DZ in Indiantown. Was on a weekday no one esle there to jump that day, just me. you told your pilot( can't remember his name) to fire up the 172,I think or was it a 182, and let me jump! I did and I have always had fond memories of that day! No one out there today would do that for one jumper I think. It wasn't long after that Uncle Sam grabed me for a while. But I'm back in the sport now as long as my health will let me! Keep in touch, Wayne Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  19. Hey Pop,Hope you have a good Christmas and New Year. Yea, I know what you mean about the bag. Merle Leadbetter and his wife made a sleeve for me that was much tighter than the one that came with my PC. I would just wind pack it, roll it tighter to fit the sleeve and it gave me very slow openings, plus very few line twists. Seemed to be a touch softer than the bag my friends used and I jumped a few times. Probably was just my youthfull exuberance for the sport that couldn't tell the differance? Good to hear from ya again. Jump lately? I have to tell ya I just got my Jan Parachutist mag and was pleased to see the articule on Marathon boogie. It brought back some good memories. I did the first air show they had there in 1970 (I think). Just me and the little island down there. Did a stand up on the runway near the crowd and they loved it. Didn't make much money though! Fun none the less! Ah, to have all those days to do again! Wayne Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  20. Winsor, I can't thank you enough!
  21. I think the reason it came down so fast was the guy I bought it from had some kind of mod don to the lines if memory serves! Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  22. Steve, I hear ya! I'm probably going to jump the beast some. Beleave it or not, the first malfuntion I ever had was under a paraplane. Line twists up to my neck! No dought my fault with my shoulders, but violent none the less. It cost me a case of beer cause I lost my reserve ripcord! Also who knew anything about canopy loading back then any! Every time I jumped that beast it was a fast trip down! We were swooping and didn't even know it! All we would say was "Far out, Man". Wayne Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  23. J, It's been so long ago I didn't see the dif. It's been 34 yrs to be exact. All done for reeducation. Thanks for the reply! Your right, a gathering of OLD FARTS would be very interesting to say the least. I'll be at the POPS boogie in Thomaston Ga. this year for sure. We'll have to bend an elbo or two if you come down! Don't stop posting, I love to hear all this stuff! Wayne Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
  24. Man, would love to see it! Wayne Here's to Old Farts in the Wind!
