  1. Had two: first one, a buddy and I were jumping at the Ranch and were near the second to last to exit the plane. Seemed like we were going long and there was plenty of clouds to obscure the view of the spot. Someone said "pull high" right before we left. Needless to say, upon opening we were very far away and me and three other guys put it down in a camp ground field. second: high altitude jump at Lake Wales during last years Great White North Boogie. Just about the entire load landed off. I was under canopy flying along a rail road track not wanting to land anywhere near it and the associated hazards (power lines, fence etc). Well, I see a large stand of trees coming up ahead of me and I turn to the right to get away from the r.r. tracks and the trees. I should have just made that my down wind and landed as I had a large field out ahead of me. Like an idiot, i try to do a 360 to bleed off a little altitude. bad move. The wind is screaming at my back and I am flying right back at the r.r. tracks. I instantly realize that I am dropping to fast to make an aggressive turn back into the wind, but can see that I am going to be able to make a slight turn and PLF just in front of the r.r. tracks and a barbed wire fence. I PLF, manage to avoid every pile of cow shit in the field, and promptly get dragged by my canopy (at a pretty fast speed) right into a barbed wire fence. I went under the fence, snapped two strands, and my canopy flopped down over the top of it. My helmet probably saved my life on that one. Scratches down the top to the back of my neck. Had that been my head I would have been shredded. As it was, the back of my neck got cut up pretty good, but I patched it up and kept jumping (after having several friends remove me from the fence and render a little first aid). Learned alot on that jump.
  2. just sold my wifes rig to someone is Spain (hola Miguel if you read this). After spending about 2 days of checking each other out to verify that we both weren't scamming each other, he tried paying me by PayPal. For some reason he was having difficulties. In the end, I opened a new bank account with $1. I emailed him the routing number and account number. He then had his bank in Spain wire transfer the money from his account to mine. I received a confirmation email from his bank to me, and in about 3 days it cleared. I transferred the money from one account to another then withdrew it. It was actually very simple.
  3. personally speaking, I am preferential to Glocks, but that is my choice. I would not go below a 9mm round and would actually recommend a 40 or 45 cal.(for stopping power. CROC's reply above about a small caliber 25 just bouncing off someones forehead makes a good point of the uselessness of small rounds). Depending on the make and model, you could get a single or double stack magazine. Just remember, the bigger and fatter the gun, the less likely that you carry it, and a gun not carried is useless. I base this off of being a police officer for 14 years and a SWAT officer for 10. Whatever you get, be very familiar with it, know how to shoot it hold it etc...Finger off the trigger unless you plan on pulling it and shooting what you are aiming at. I could go on but this is long enough already
  4. Playa Del Carmen (along the "Mexican Riviera") all day long. Been to two resorts there, both all inclusive. The second was an adults only and we had a much better time. No kids running around being pains in the asses.

    NBC News...

my mother-in-law, who HATES that her daughter and I both jump, allready called demanding to know why his "back up didn't work". It's not gonna change her mind, but I'll try to explain. It's like trying to explain to someone, that despite airbags and seatbelts, people still get hurt and killed in car accidents.
  6. check out "GALLS" on line catalog. That should help. They have it all from all vendors
  7. that is definetley the Dave I know
  8. who'se bitchin dude? I jump with Dave and emailed him. He told me that the new server was delivered and was supposed to be switched over a few days ago but it was just taking longer than he thought. Nothing more, nothing less.
  9. emailed with with Dave, the new server is in and they are changing it over. And as with everything, delays, delays delays
  10. just got back from Lake Wales, Fl Great White Northern Boogie. On saturday, the Casa took off with a full load and 6 of us in the Otter took off a few minutes later. The Otter Pilot flew us right up and under the Casa's open tail gate. We were so close we could see faces on the Casa. Was anyone on this site on that Casa? And if so, did you take pics or video. I'd love to get a look at that shot if someone got it. Perhaps post it here or on Skydivingmovies.com. I'd appreciate it.
  11. as a cop, I for one cannot stand drunk drivers and am the furthest thing in the world from being a bleeding heart. I can't see the logic in automatically, no matter what, transfering all the blame to the intoxicated party. Key word being "automatically". I and others have said, if they are intoxicated and the accident is the reason they are caught, so be it. If they are at fault, so be it. If they are partially at fault, so be it. Yes, the argument could be made, in most instances, that their impaired abilities caused the accident. I can see the instance though where the drunk is stopped at a red light and slammed from behind. At least here in Ct, I would charge the drunk for being drunk and the person at fault for following to close or some other applicable charge. I guess it is different all over. I'd never heard of the implied at fault thing before.
  12. then that is screwed up. Obviously at times one person is the sole person at fault. Sometimes it's both with aggravating circumstance, but to transfer blame is messed up. Not to defend the drunk, they should still get charged though.
  13. aaaaaaaaaah, deep breath. Apologies for the f'ing di*khead comment. In reference to the drunk driver getting hit by a sober driver, responsibility isn't transferred. If you are at fault, you are at fault. If the victim, that is the person not at fault for causing the accident, happens to be drunk/impaired, they may get charged seperatley, but stll aren't at fault.
  14. to the guy who started this thread: you sir, are a dick. I can not fathom the twisted rational that sparked your feeble mind to even begin this thread. You seem to be all bent over cops being tied up for 2 hours handling a .08, so what's the answer?? We (yes, I am a cop and a skydiver) don't set the limits, our legislators do. We simply enforce what they set. I have arrested people as low as .08 and most recently a whopping .334. Yes, .334. The guy admitted to being a hardcore alcoholic and was driving as bad as some people at a .08. Someone mentioned earlier getting people rides home. I, and every cop I know, has done this. For those people that get pulled over for a minor infraction and maybe smell of alcohol or admit to having one or two, this is at times the right thing to do. There are very few areas left where we are still allowed to have discretion, and when someone falls into this category, at times we can be nice guys. Dickhead: You are still a fucking dickhead, but I truly hope you and yours are never hit by a guy trying to make a changing light who happens to be a .08, because you will regret the day you began this post.
  15. I am relatively new to this sport (little over 1 year) and would at 115 jumps definitley be considered a newbie. My wife and I both took up the sport at the same time, and are in to it for over $15,000 so far. That includes AFF, gear for both of us, and jumps to date. I would have to say, at my level, I would never consider coaching someone. I also would never pay someone to jump with me as a coach. I guess i'm fortunate that at my home DZ, there are plenty of people out every weekend, of all skill levels, jumping together. I have never had a prolem finding someone to jump with. We are a smaller DZ compared to the bigger full time operations, but we probably survive based on the tandems. Overall I'd have to say we would classify as a "friendlier" dz. And let's face it, no one's really getting rich in this sport.
  16. thanks to all. SunPath recommends towards the bottom, so that's the way i'll be doing mine.
  17. ok, i'll make this even simpler. After seeing this, I have a Jav Odyssey. I've been putting the bag with the lines facing the bottom of the container, NOT the back of the container. Anyone disagree? or otherwise have input. Thanks
  18. ok, just for arguments sake, with over 2000 jumps, how do YOU do it?
  19. on one of her earlier AFF jumps, my wife simply did her check in, check out, and then jumped. She completely spaced and didn't do the UP, DOWN, OUT, or ready set go etc.... The instructor told me that later that one second he's looking at her, the next second she's bailing out. He had to do a big catch up.
  20. when you FINALLY have the canopy in the deployment bag and all the stows completed, and the bag goes into the rig, do the lines face the bottom of the container, or the back of the container?? saw it done both ways by two people more experienced than I. I didn't say anything to either, as at my level, I don't really know jack shit yet.
