Ain't that the truth! Sounds like a lot of tax returns I've heard of... What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

Don't forget the desk clerk thought $30 was too much and refunded $5! It may not be nearly as bad as it sounds since this puzzle has been in my junk drawer for over 40 years. I'm sure with inflation the room today would be at least "We'll Leave the Light on For You" expensive. What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

Hmmm... you mean I wasn't supposed to give him my Crown Royal ! ? ...and I wasn't his first "beerable" bite. I believe that is his custom. What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday. -

I heard all turtles are NAUGHTY trouble makers..... "Hearing" and finding out the actual truth, first hand, are not the same. >>>Objection Your Honor - Hear-say -
Would you be surprised to learn that as the office manager for my company I have been doing the bookkeeping for the last 27 years... and that I'm really good at it? What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

I can see that discussion lasting a loooooonge time because some people just like to argue. I'll bet you could cause continued heated debate any time you wanted just by bringing up the subject. What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

what else was i going to do, i didn't have access to dz.com. I once tried to explain something at work and *everyone* was against me.. See if you can follow my logic: I proposed that not all dictionary's are created equal.. I further suggested that people seem to assume that just because something has been published in a book, it has to be true/accurate. I gave an example of the word "explain", which according to one dictionary meant "to make understandable". And I went on to say that this is not really *strictly* true, since you can explain all day and not make it any more understandable.. I suggested that a *good* dictionary might say that to explain is "an attempt to make understandable", which would be more accurate. My co-workers ALL jumped in to fault my logic.. They ALL agreed that my definition of explain was incorrect according to the dictionary!!! Sheesh!! Wow! You should have them read this post because everyone knows that if it's on the internet it must be true. What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

Yeah, but she's off playing with her new rig... and trying like crazy to get that new canopy in the bag! What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

actually, no. this guy was really really dumb. i was amazed that he was able to make it to work each day. someone once made a joke about incest and he went on a really loud, really angry rant about how sometimes the nearest women is many miles away and if she happens to be your cousin then too bad, you take what you can get. obviously a nerve was touched there. Now that is just scary... What else will he justify? What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

On the contrary... It is not at all simple for someone who is bad at math fundamental logic. This is an excellent example of different learning styles.

If we were all the same, we wouldn't need you would we? What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

Whew! I'm glad I'm not as bad as that fellow! Undoubtedly, he has other strengths that come naturally to him that you may have a problem with. We all have strengths and weaknesses. Your explanation was the easiest to follow. Thank you again!

What part of that are you having trouble with? It's really, really simple. On the contrary... It is not at all simple for someone who is bad at math. This is an excellent example of different learning styles.

the problem is that there is no reason to add 27 and 2. forget about that because it isn't relevant. there are $30 that we have to account for and we can easily do so. $25 are sitting in the till, $2 and in the bellboy's pocket, and $3 have been returned to the customer. 25+2+3=30. no missing dollar. THANK YOU!!! That makes sense! I think... ...a 40-year problem solved!
-
Nope... can't follow that at all... What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

There is no $1. The room cost $25, the men paid $27, the bellboy has taken the difference, which is $2. What part of that are you having trouble with? In my thinking the cost of the room is irrelevant. The men initially gave the clerk $30. They paid $27 for the room. The bellboy has $2. There is a missing $1. What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.
-
They didn't each pay $27.. They each paid $9.33. 30 - 5 = 25. Divide by 3 evenly = $8.33333 Add $1 = $9.333333 The Bellboy gets $2 Problem solved. That doesn't make sense to me either. There was no change involved. What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

The room cost $25, but the men paid $27. The bellboy has $2. Where is the $1? Math was never my best subject... What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

I was digging around in an old drawer and found this math puzzle that I had saved from probably 40 years ago. I still can't figure it out, can you? ***Three men wanted one room. The clerk said it was $10 each. The men each paid $10 and went to their room. $10 x 3 = $30 The clerk decided that $10 each was too much so he gave the bellboy $5 to give back to the men. The bellboy decided that since they couldn't divide $5 three ways evenly, he kept $2 and gave the men $3. Therefore, each man paid $9. The room cost them $27. The bellboy has $2. $27 + $2 = $29 Where did the $1 go? What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

Eww. I went hungry when mom made that. Your Mom doesn't have my recipe. My kids still ask for my mac 'n cheese every time I make their birthday dinner. That reminds me of my Mom's chili. I thought I hated chili because of the awful way that she made it. When I had it at a friend's house, I discovered that it was really good! Why do they have to make it all complicated? This is our Federal Government that we're talking about... you know, the folks who brought us tax simplification? What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.

What I thought was similar is that the house was bought in 2009 and the 2008 tax return had already been filed. I would think that doing an amended return would suffice... but to be sure, ask a tax preparer. Nothing about preparing taxes is simple.
