  1. My name is Kelly and I am a homeschooling mother of three. Kamikaze Kel
  2. HEY! I fit with that demographic: I am a 35-year-old stay-at-home homeschooling mother of three. And no, I don't party , but then again, it's none of my business if everybody else does. I don't really care who is slurping tequila out of whose bellybutton , all I know is, what was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime tandem jump has led to an obsession, and as soon as I get the money scraped together, I sure do wanna go out there and get my A license. I WANNA FLY! I WANNA GET BACK UP INTO THE SKY! So what if in real life I am just a boring suburban mom? I'm not out to cramp your style. P.S. I am not a fan of Leonardo, FWIW. Kamikaze Kel
  3. See, you thought you had nobody to share this with, but really you did. VSG and the others are giving some really good advice. It may sound corny and ridiculous to you when you are in an unhappy frame of mind, but it is true: you need to love yourself first and then you will be loveable. And don't expect your happiness to come from somebody else, that is just giving too much of your power away. You have the power to choose who you are. So choose! Create for yourself the person you want to be. Don't try to figure out what somebody else wants you to be. It doesn't matter what anybody else wants you to be. What matters is you and your own dreams for yourself. Oh, and while I am being preachy, I may as well add, because you really sound sad, don't make any life or death decisions while you are in a sad state of mind. Okay? Kamikaze Kel
  4. My kids think it is so cool that I went skydiving and that I want to make a regular habit out of it. As soon as I landed after my first jump, my six-year-old ran up to me and shouted, "I want to do that! Can I have a turn?" And I said, "When you are sixteen." Now she is looking forward to her Sweet 16 tandem jump. Anyway, I have let all my kids ski since they were four-years-old, and if you look at those statistics, that is a dangerous sport, too. I believe in teaching them by my example as well as through words, to take life by the horns and have fun living it, but in as safe and controlled and responsible way as possible. 16 seems like a good age to start skydiving to me. But what do I know? I am a newbie. Kamikaze Kel
  5. Hi, Shital! Congratulations! You sure do have an adventurous spirit! Best wishes, and wow, what an impressive thing to do! Really cool! Kamikaze Kel
  6. for the vicarious adrenaline rush? Kamikaze Kel
  7. Thanks everybody for the warm greetings and humorous advice. The problem of no money will go away. I expect that after our tax refund check arrives this spring, I will quickly make my way to the nearest DZ and go through the AFF course and get my A license. Also, waiting until spring comes will give my husband time to get over his shock that the club where I did my tandem recently totalled their Cessna in an emergency landing right after take-off. (Luckily, nobody was seriously hurt in that incident. WHEW!) As for the whuffo husband, I should give him a bit more credit. He's not really a whuffo. He DOES understand why I would love to FLY! He just doesn't want to do it himself. Too bad. He doesn't know what he is missing. Truth is, he is the one who gave me the gift certificate for the tandem jump as a birthday present. See, my parents live really close to a DZ, and all summer long, whenever we go to visit them, we'd hear the plane buzzing overhead and see the little dots falling from the sky. And I'd say, "Someday, I am going to do that." And my husband would say, "No way." Then, on my last birthday, he surprised me with a gift certificate for a tandem jump. Divorce him? No way. I've got him too well-trained to do my bidding. ;-) Happy jumpin' everybody, Kelly Kamikaze Kel
  8. Hi! My name is Kelly; I made my first jump (a tandem--thanks to Chris Fuller for the AWESOME ride!) back on October 9 at the Duanesburg Skydiving Club. I went into the experience thinking that skydiving would be a once in a lifetime thing for me, but I LOVED it. Now I want to get licensed, but have two problems: 1) no money and 2) whuffo husband who isn't thrilled about the idea of me making a habit out of jumping out of airplanes. Both those obstacles can be overcome; it just may take a little time. Anyway, I am glad to have found Dropzone; I am learning so much here! Now, if I could just figure out how to upload the video of my jump to my website... Anyway, hi everybody and I look forward to getting to know you all better! Kamikaze Kel
