  1. Shooting glowing Balloons is similar to photographing the moon:

    You need a very fast (read: light-sensitive) lens, something like a 1.4, a camera capable of high ISOs (the higher it can go without noise the better!) and a short exposure time, so the balloons will still have all the logos and surface area visible and a are not only "glowing balls". You'll need to put the spotmeter only on the balloon and not measuring around it, otherwise it will try to lighten up the background as well and your ballon will be over-exposed. It's not the easiest subject to shoot, good luck! ;)

    I think there are a lot of good stabilizing systems out there, which are a lot smaller than a Flycam. I recently tried out the kumbacam and I think it's great and easy to travel with.

    It shoots supersmooth video, ideal for running around the dropzone on a boogie or filming expensive looking tandem instruction videos.. B|

    I think gimbals are they way to go, as the bulky weight balancing systems like the flycam or the glidecam are becoming more and more outdated...

    But this is just my opinion.

    I am still waiting for some 1080p120 skydiving footage to see how well the compression works in that mode.

    From reading everything I have mixed feelings about it.

    1080p120 sounds like a killer feature, but when you look at an actual framegrab from that mode http://philipbloom.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/GOPR0627.Still004.jpg you see that the high framerate is achieved with a lower bitrate and dynamic range. Almost looks Hero2-ish in that mode :|

    - new battery has less capacity
    - no LCD integrated with the "black" version, though the silver version has it
    - no GPS
    - no IS at all

    DR on 4k mode is basically a joke.
    Just take a look at http://vimeo.com/107415158 and tell me it doesn't suck.

    I fear that the compression is too agressive on the new model. Can maybe be fixed with a firmware update, but oh well... I somehow expected more. Not only from the specs/features, but basic things like overall picture quality.

    At the moment you are not getting my 500$.
    I'm waiting for more reviews and side-by-side comparisons.

    So a client wants me to use a sinaCAM http://www.sinacam.eu/ for a commercial shoot. The cam itself is not a problem, but the recorder is. What would be your suggestions for mounting? I can't mount it on my belly, because the belly will be in frame (you need to see the clothes I am wearing).

    I will also talk with my special rigger and S&TA about that but maybe someone here already has some input?

    After that there where many videos with the german "I daut it" - meme and the airline asked for videos with that sentence in it in the same style. This is why I entered the contest with my video :$

    I attended a little contest from an airline and won it with a skydiving video. One week Abu Dhabi + business class flights, woohoo! They asked me if they can give me the voucher in a "special way" and this is what we came up with.
    The tandem pax is the marketing guy from the airline and he also really enjoyed it. :$

    Does anyone have experience with the above mentioned lens? I think it would be great for inside-formation and very close action shots. How fast is the lens? What aperture does it still perform well?

    So, the rumors are no rumors anymore. 2 tunnels will be built in Berlin.

    The first tunnel to open in Berlin is a Skydive Arena(Prague)/Hurricane Factory System and is planned to open in 2015.

  20. Let's spin the rumor mill! ;)

    Does anyone know or have a an official statement when the new GoPro Hero4 will be announced? Can we expect a statement from CEO Nick Woodman during NAB, or is that too early?

    The GoPro Hero3 has been out since late 2012 and although there was a little update with the Hero3+ in October 2013 nothing big has changed since then. I know they are working on it since a while, possible switching to a Samsung Chip.

    I think they will time the release of the new Hero4 with the IPO, but this is just my guess. But as the IPO is confidential as well we don't know a date for it, either..

    Exciting times for GoPro - and us!

  23. I could advise you to some fabulous lawyers, but only for Germany, but in Isreal the law is completely different..
    In Germany you could easily injunct them, as they are already using it on several media without your consent. Means, that they will have call back and destroy everything with your picture on it. This would cost them a lot of $$$ and give them bad press, so I bet they are more than willing to deal with you ;)

    This article is already 2 months old: http://cinescopophilia.com/cmosis-its-4k-12-megapixel300-fps-cmos-image-sensor-cmv12000/ but it talks about a new CMOSIS 4k sensor, which could fit in Blackmagic sized camera. So if anyone had an eye on the Blackmagic and can wait a little bit more, say June 2014, then wait a little bit more.. I'm sure there will be more and more competitors in the 4k range, it's just getting started. Really looking forward to it (and how we can streamline the postproduction workflow for our skydiving needs ;)).
