  2. Here are a couple of questions:

    What altitude did you exit?
    (What plane did you use?)
How long was the formation held?
How many jumps had the flyer with the lowest jumpcount?

Is there a video available, too?

  3. Very interesting to look at the different arm and leg positions.. Every flyer has an unique style. Thats why I am loving freefly.. You fly your body and not "one perfect" Headdown position...
    Well done guys... B| B|

  4. I think freeflying is just the natural evolution of freefalling.. When you are a baby, you can only crawl on your belly (RW), but when you get older and more experienced you learn to standup and walk (freefly). 30 years ago nobody thought about flying his/her body in a 3D-environment, because it was already dangerous enough to fly stable in a belly to earth position. But the sport has evolved and now nearly everything is possible, so why don't do that then?

Freeflying intensifies my freefall much more and and it hast just a "magic" feeling when you fly relative to someone and carve around him... It reminds more on truly flying than RW does. RW is only 2-dimensional (when you are a beginner), of course for the more experienced flyers there are also 3d block moves. But freefly is 3d from the beginning on. Everything is possible, it's only limited by your imagination..

But nevertheless good RW skills are very helpful in freeflying, because with RW you learn the basics in freefall. I would say that you can't be a perfect relaxed freeflyer, if you haven't done some RW in advance.

When we get to altitude the air has a unique smell to it(you all know what im talking about)

Cool, I thought I was the only one who smelled that. Does anyone know why that is?

There is the theorie of gases expanding in higher altitudes and then finding their ways through the jumpsuit to everybodys nose... I think this effect is called "exit farting". Because when you smell those stinky things it's almost time to exit! Been there, smelled that...

  7. Hi bubbadrop,

My first jump was like your first jump, except that I was in my first AFF level. I f*cked up everythin.. Did the wrong exit command, merely responded in freefall and even forgot to pull my canopy! I regained consciousness when i was under my canopy my aff-instructor had deployed and only thought: "What the hell was that? I didn't do anything! Is this really the right sport for me?" In the second jump i managed everything and hadn't to redo any aff level either..
I should have done a tandem before, that would have prepared me better for freefall. :S
I have my first jump on video and it's always a good laugh to show it to my friends.. The expression in my face looked like i was really stoned...

So, you see.. don't worry about your first jump. I think everyone knows how you feel.

    Good luck,

  8. Oh man, this is really tough.. B|
I think this sport is called "the parcour" or something similar. It is very common in France, Paris.. I've been there and saw some people climbing up walls and jumping from buildings into fire escape stairs.. When you see it, you can't believe your eyes.
This is actually the shit im dreaming of at night.. But still not athletic enough for it :(:(

  9. Hi All,

I just want to know if wearing a base gear has ever safed your life? So, you where on your way to your exit point, but then stumbled or lost contact with your feet, and fell off the object, but safed your life because you were wearing a base rig? So for example you are climbing an antenna, but lost your grip for some reason and just fell of doing an "early exit". :S

And don't answer: "Yes, my rig safed my life in every jump."
I want to hear about "unplanned exits", if you know what i mean.

Or is this impossible, because during the ascend your gear is still in his bag and not on your back?

Thanks for your answers to someone who has never based...

  10. Groundsports are in deed dangerous! :(

I was once on a boogie where 2 Freeflyers got seriously hurt while playing Hackysac. And one couldn't jump for the whole day because of pain in his right leg...

On a windy day some other dudes where flying kites and one got his ear nearly cut off, because of the kite-lines..

Stay away from other sporting activities on the dropzone except skydiving. It will only hurt you!

  11. I started off doing a lot solos, about 40... Just tried to keep the horizon in the same position and not turning in any direction. I didn't care about my body positions at that time, just tried to _feel_ it. Then took 10 coaching jumps to work on my body position and to fly really stable.. then proceeded with solos again. The next step was taking a stable sitflyer as a reference with in the air. After doing that for a while i took about 5 coaching jumps for learning how to take a grip. Then jumped with other HD'ers, but then i found out, that i again need coaching because of some slight carving i still made.. Took another about 7 coaching jumps and woosh --> I can fly 3 way Headdowns now. But I still need a lot more practice and there a still plenty of things to learn, but I think coaching is not necessary anymore...
If you can't afford coaching, then take someone with a cam with you and show the video to an experienced freeflyer to get some ideas how you can improve your flying.
And again, you need to feel it! Remember to stay relaxed and the utmost important thing is to breathe. It sounds funny, but breathing was the key to success for me...
