    Hi Robert,

    Quote

Here in CO, I've voted by mail in every election since the turn of the century.

Good for you. Now tell those folks in charge in CO to make it the only way to vote; as it is here in OR.

    Jerry Baumchen

I'm curious why do you think that should be the only way to vote?

    Hi folks,

Just for the guys out there.

    The Four Stages of Life:

    1. You believe in Santa Claus

    2. You don't believe in Santa Claus

    3. You are Santa Claus

    4. You look like Santa Claus

    >:(

    Jerry Baumchen

Come on Jerry tell me there is a stage 6 or 7 in there. I'm all ready at stage 4.[:/]

Some here are old enough to remember when Playboy Magazine featured a regular cartoon called Chester the Molester. And, they thought it was funny.

Run a web search and see what turns up.

Actually it was Hustler not Playboy that had that comic. And if you are using Hustler comics to defend what is ok in society. You should think again:S

Labels make for easy laws, but not ones that work. That's been mostly the point of this whole discussion. My brother was with some other people 35 years ago when he was 18 and one thing stolen was a gun. Now he is a felon with a gun spec. But despite that he's able to buy guns and does. So on the one hand the label doesn't keep him from getting guns. On the other hand, being with some other 18 years old who robbed a house that happened to have a gun in it 35 years ago doesn't mean he's going to shoot up a Mall tomorrow. The label has nothing to do with who he is. Besides, he'd be a new risk, mass shooters in a wheelchair. No, he wan't crippled in a gun fight, but a motorcycle wreck. I know a lot of people that I think are scary with a gun but there's no law keeping them from it. No label.
The label makes for an easy law which does absolutely nothing except make us feel like we've taken care of the problem. Until we get reminded again that it doesn't work. That lasts maybe two weeks, tops. What I've said is I can't picture any law that would work. I'm not saying there isn't one, but it'll take someone else to come up with it and we've proven pretty well that what we're doing isn't working. As for my brother, there are few people that I would suspect less of them hurting someone. Despite his label.

***So you would rather sit by and wait to see if he does something and than say I wish somebody would have done something to stop this from happening.

I know it is not easy turning in a relative. But to post that we need more gun control efforts and than to post that you brother is violating the laws we have All ready, but you do nothing about that is slightly hipocritic.

I am a law abiding gun owner, and it gets to me that many people will rally for stricter gun laws but will not do anything about people they know are violating our current laws. If my siblings were a prohibited person I would give them the chance to to get rid of the guns and become legal or I would drop the dime if they didn't.

If he is a convicted felon like you say, he is prohibited from owning firearms unless he has received a pardon.

"My brother was with some other people 35 years ago when he was 18 and one thing stolen was a gun."

About two weeks earlier he'd accidentally killed his best friend while cutting firewood. He went a little nuts for awhile.

    Please explain a litle?

***^^^ Bingo. we build shitty laws deliberately and then go "See? It didn't work!"

My brother is a felon who did two years for a gun related crime. He has an arsenal. Most people who aren't into guns have no idea how those who do like guns think, and of course the sheer number of guns. This obviously isn't anything like automobiles, in fact I can't think of anything it is like. But it's going to take some new and realistic thinking to do anything about gun violence. I confess that I have no idea what would work, but it seems obvious to me why the current laws don't. They just aren't realistic. Gun foes don't understand the reality of guns or how gun proponents think. And just to be clear, I don't mean that to be a criticism of gun owners, just what I think the reality of the situation is.

So your brother is a convicted felon and has an arsenal by your own statement. Have you alerted the LEO's about this? It seems you are concerned about people that should not have guns having them. I would think home is a good place to start.

Those two judges sound like trump material.

Judge Roy Moore out of the United States Senate. He is a notorious political figure from the most extreme corner of the religious right, who was twice removed from the Alabama Supreme Court for refusing to enforce the rule of law. First it was for refusing to remove a 10 Commandments monument from the courthouse and then it was for ordering the state to refuse marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Moore is a vocal birther who believes that sharia law is being enacted in states around the nation and claimed that Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota should not be allowed to serve in Congress because he is a Muslim. Not only did he refuse to honor the Supreme Court's order legalizing gay marriage, he thinks homosexual conduct should be outlawed. He has said that the 9/11 attacks and the Newtown mass shooting occurred because God was upset that we "legitimize sodomy” and “legitimize abortion.”

Women Vote Trump, the largest female-run PAC to support Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, announced their endorsement of Judge Roy Moore for U.S. Senate on Friday, describing him as the “only candidate” who will stand up to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

“Judge Roy Moore is a principled and courageous conservative with strong grassroots support throughout the state of Alabama and we are proud to endorse him for Senate,” said Women Vote Trump co-founder Amy Kremer in a statement.

“At a time when Mitch McConnell and the DC swamp have been obstructionists to the President’s agenda, this election is about who is going to stand up to Mitch McConnell,” the statement continued. “There is only one candidate who will do that, Judge Roy Moore.”

Because a human life with a full genetic endowment comes into existence at the moment of conception, the self-evident truth that “all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights” encompasses the moment of conception. Legal recognition of the unborn as members of the human family derives ultimately from the laws of nature and of nature’s God, Who created human life in His image and protected it with the commandment: “Thou shalt not kill.” Therefore, the interpretation of the word “child” in Alabama’s chemical-endangerment statute, § 26-15- 3.2, Ala. Code 1975, to include all human beings from the moment of conception is fully consistent with these first principles regarding life and law.

As this quote illustrates, Moore is a leader in the “Personhood Movement,” which holds that from the moment of conception a zygote enjoys the full protections of the Equal Protection Clause

September is here now. I'm starting to get my first tingles of excitement. I'm just wondering if anyone is seeing signs yet?

Well I have not put up any signs yet, but the 23rd of September 2017 will be the start of my birthday party. Turn 55 on the 26th party should end around the 27th.:)

Has anyone else gotten a chance to use the Hobie Mirage drive? It’s a pedal powered propulsion system for a kayak. It’s hard to explain how it works in text (you have to see it in action) but it works _very_ well. I got a chance to try one out on a few boats this weekend while I was up in Oregon for the eclipse. It even has a reverse gear.

Hobie now has a small trimaran sailboat (the Tandem Island) that weighs 240 lbs; it has one of these drives in it as well. At first I thought it was sort of pointless (how fast are you going to move a boat that weighs 500+ lbs with everyone on board by pedaling it?) but I can see how it would work now. At my 1 minute speed (i.e. the max I can put out for 1 minute) I was leaving a pretty significant wake in a tandem kayak by myself.

It works great, until you get into the kelp. Then it may as well be an anchor.

Good article on FOX News by Michael Anthony, lead pastor of Grace Fellowship. Anthony points out that Jesus would not recognize the evangelical right today as any sort of Christianity.

    ===================
    . . .

I’m not a liberal, pro-LGBT advocate. I’m a conservative, evangelical Christian who is actually the senior pastor of a fairly large church in Pennsylvania. But I’m still reeling from last week, peeved and grieved about two things: how the president is handling the transgender military issue, and how many conservative, evangelical Christians are celebrating. I know there are many English translations of the Bible available today, including the KJV, NKJV, NIV, ESV and more – but it seems that the hands-down favorite of many of too many conservative, evangelical Christians has become the RSV – the Reversed Standard Version. I’m afraid many of us have reversed what the Bible teaches, and someone on the inside needs to say so loud and clear.

There is nothing courageous, humble or gracious about the behavior of our president or many conservative evangelicals these days – and it frightens me big time. If it were possible, I think it would frighten Jesus. Many Christians are preaching grace and mercy and we’re very good at saying folks don’t need to get their acts together before coming to Christ as Savior – but our treatment of the lost contradicts our confession. We don’t own the message we’re preaching. Compassion? Love? Are you kidding me? We’re very angry at sinners. It’s obvious – and it’s twisted.

We wonder why people are turned off by Christianity. I have news for us: it’s not Jesus who is offending people much these days. It’s us, his followers. I fear that a large sector of Christianity in America needs to get saved all over again, and I say that with tears, fear and a good deal of trembling.

In the past four years, five well-known American pastors from mega-churches either fell from grace or were disgraced by unethical practices that should have had conservative evangelicals up in arms (and I’m not talking about worshipping on a Sunday morning). One pastor bought his own books in an attempt to become a NY Times bestselling author. Another built a 16,000 square foot home (don’t worry, only 8,000sf was “livable space,” he explained), while his church promoted “spontaneous” baptisms that turned out to involve a good deal of planned psychological manipulation to solicit audience participation. Drinking and anger issues cost another his church and marriage. The fifth resigned suddenly and walked away – and within six months, his wife filed for divorce. His pièce de résistance was that he assumed leadership of a church consulting company within weeks of resigning. In other words, he wants other church leaders to follow his example. Lord, save us.

Where were the conservative evangelical Christians during these high-profile meltdowns? I don’t know, but one thing is certain: we didn’t hear nearly as much from them as we did about the president’s transgender military move.

The recent release of a photo showing a select group of Christian leaders praying for and laying hands on President Trump is something I would expect to see from Pharisees, not pastors – unless, of course, there is a parallel. (Remember, the Pharisees were among Jesus’ staunchest enemies). I’m a huge advocate for praying for our president. Love him or hate him, he and our nation need a lot of prayer. But we’re supposed to be doing our acts of righteousness in private, not use them as a public relations tool to garner more name recognition.

I get it: the military exits to destroy the enemy. Accordingly, it must have standards that potential recruits must meet in order to achieve its objectives. That’s common sense. And, I agree that the military should not pay for gender reassignment surgeries. But, can we learn how to express ourselves with compassion for people who, in many instances, would love to have their sexuality as settled as the majority of Americans? Must we bludgeon people in our disagreement? Is that what Jesus did?

Sin is bad, and people definitely need to repent before they can follow Jesus. I’m not disregarding that essential part of the gospel. What concerns me is that many conservative evangelicals have perverted the gospel and don’t seem to realize it. We want people to be perfect before they come to know Christ, and neither Jesus nor the gospel work that way.

At the very time when America needs humble courage, aloof arrogance is running amuck. I think it’s time we put down the false RSV Bible and start reading one of the real translations. It’s not possible to follow Jesus otherwise.

  17. At this point I don't know if it should be called a terrorist attack or not. According to some news reports it was a incendiary device that did not do much damage.
The FBI has taken over the lead investigation. They should get to the bottom of it.
But we have seen some instances of members of a church or mosque deface or burn it to try and gain sympathy.
At this point it's anyone's call.
