  1. The reserve is a pillow. I've been drilling with and old rig with that set up seems like every day but i am still thinking about a metal reserve handle. I't does feel better for me with the pillow but the brain tells me to go metal. The reserve like i said was manufactured in 03-2000. I have talked with instructors about it and they just wanted to make sure that the velcro on the reserve handle was not double velcro but only velcro on one side as opposed to both side where it sits in the harness
  2. Javelin J-2, C-19, hip and chest rings, pillow cutaway and reserve, red/black tye-dye, Precision 181-M reserve, cypress, all manufactured 03-2000. No main. $2200. Good buy or not?
  3. Sparky. For one thing i'm not feeding my ego. I am very comfortable under a 160/170, i can safely , effectively and effeciantly fly a 160/170, i can fly and land it in no wind, high wind, down wind, cross wind and do stand up landing. Give me one "good" reason why i should fly a Velocity 79. I think someone with 2000+ jumps should know thats a pretty rediculous comment. Sure, i'll jump a Velocity 79 if you agree to pay my funeral expenses.
  4. Just call the manufacturer of the canopy you want to demo. If i'm not mistaken they give you 2 weeks and it costs about $35-40. Good hunting.
  5. To date, i've jumped a PD 150, Falcon 135, Safire 190, Tri 190, Tri 160 and currently jump a Merit 170. The Merit is great aside from the nut busting openings. Would like to get a Hornet 170. 60 jumps in 2 years is weak, i wont argue that. Just bought a new rig, have another older rig to get together so i can have 2 rigs just so i can jump more. Your talking to a guy thats been working 6 days a week 70 hours a week for the past 2 years and off on only sundays. Take 3-4 sundays in a row that are rained out or cloudy and i'm screwed, aside from trying to spend time with my other half and trying to sell my house in San Antonio has made for many lost jump days. Definetely plan to seriously increase the jump #'s this year and really get back into the sport with more regularity. I'll be in San Marcos first thing in the morning on sunday. 170 it shall be.
  6. I'm not rushing to go small. If that were the case i'd be looking for a 135 or smaller. My instructors have said to me not to go lower than a 150. With the few jumps i have, i have paid that extra money to learn from coaches and instructors and have had them jump with me. I wouldnt even think of going smaller than a 150. A no wind day....pick a spot for me and i'll land on it. Canopy control has always been one thing i have always work so hard at in my 60 jumps so i could be as good as i possibly can at my level.
  7. I'd probably hit the fence in the yard. 5-15 mph winds, yes. Above that, no.
  8. Nice rig my man. I hate to ask this....correct me if i'm wrong.......you have 49 jumps???????AND you fly a Hornet 120?
  9. I recently jumped a Triathlon 160 (6 jumps). Had no problem handling the 160. Soft turns, hard turns, front risers, rear risers........easy stand up landings. Was easy to handle for me....lot of fun.
  10. I have heard some people mention that you do not want to overload the wingload of a 7 cell. Is this true or not. I'm 190 out the door and looking at a Triathlon 150/160 or Spectre 150/170.
  11. Hey John. The Sabre is actually advertised by Cousin Daves website. I e-mailed them about the main but havent heard beack from them yet.
  12. I cam across a Sabre 150 with 140 jumps on it, said to be in excellent shape, good lines, but i'm worried that the manu date is Sept 93. Looking for feedback if this would be a worthwhile purchase. Price of Sabre is $550.00
  13. Just got my Tri 160 today and it has a slider that seems to be pretty big. It measures 28x18 1/2. Maybe it just looks big in my living room.....i dont know. Any input from current/ex Tri owners would be appreciated.
  14. I did read that but it doesnt give me an overall view because on guy is having problems. Sabres open hard but you have that one guy that never had a hard opening on a Sabre.
  15. I jusr recently purchased a Tri 160 and was checking to see with current owners of Tri's what their snivel is like and the approx amount of feet it takes to open.
  16. Can anyone tell me the flight characteristics of a Diablo 150 and what experience level is needed to fly a Diablo at a wingload of 1.25. Appreciate the input.
  17. Christ, you did this before you had 60 jumps? The person who sold you that gear is not your friend. Good for you. They probably saved your life, or at least a nasty broken bone or two, or three. - Jim The J-2 was a good choice as far as rig, cypress and reserve. There alot of good people at my DZ i was able to talk to which made me decide to stay at at least a 150. Luckily i found out the safe way and not the hard way (broken bone or two or three).
  18. Being one of few jumps, i can say that the rigs your looking at buying are not good for you seeing how it appears you dont have alot of jumps under your belt. I currently have 60 jumps and i had an old Vector rig with a Merit 170 main and an equal size reserve. Well, my reserve is no good anymore and my rig was sent back to the manufacturer for stitching repair. That was my first rig. Now i had to look for a new set. After frustrating months (2-3) of looking, i got a Javelin J-2, all the bells and whistles, tye-dy, cypress and reserve. I'm 190 out the door and i have a Precision 181-M reserve. I purchased a Sabre2 135 but i ended up not jumping it because i felt later after talking to a lot of people, it was unsafe for my experience level. Luckily i resold it for what i paid. I just wanted to look cool. All i would have been is dead or seriously hurt. For now i'm sticking with the Merit 170 but will down size to a Sabre2 150 only after careful talk with instuctors, coaches who see me jump and other 2000+ skydivers. If you want to be cool with all the other skydivers, make the right choice on equipement, be smart and serious about safety....thats cool. Theres plenty of good gear out there for you to choose. Dont choose something that will hurt you. Go 170 plus on main and reserve. Talk to your instuctors and coaches. They wont steer you wrong. Thats what they are there for. Good luck.
  19. I jump a Merit 170 that commonly opens hard. Does anyone have any idea on how i can achieve softer openings other than seriously rolling the nose.
  20. My Merit does open pretty hard but managable. What do you mean by "pockets" on the slider. I'd love anything that makes this thing open softer.
  21. By chance have the # or e-mail address. I tried the website but it say "can not find"
  22. What exactly is phycho packing and where in the hell can i get a Hornet 150?
  23. The previous owner says he is 200 and i'm 170. His legs are bigger obviously but how much of a difference is hard to say. Not a huge difference i can tell you that. The leg straps acually fit pretty good, but i notice the tighter i made the legstraps it seemed to get more snug at the shoulders. I figured the rig would be a little looser all around. The top portion of the harness is a little loose but not to a point where i'm going to slid out of the shoulder straps. I just draw the chest strap a little tighter and that pretty much solves that problem. The BOC is right where i need, not high and not real low. Higher than my Vector but easy to reach hackey.
  24. Seriously looking to purchasing a Javelin J-2 C-19 harness container. Previous owner was 6'2 and i'm 6'3. The rig has hip and chest rings. Will this fit me. According to the math i did i should size for a C-21. Can this be fixed by Sun Path. I've tried it on and it fits pretty good but just a tweak on the snug size with the legs straps drawn pretty tight.
