  1. With markets opening into substantial losses, I guess the 'who cares' crowd might start caring when it affects them. I don't think the population of Greece are the best people to decide the nitty gritties of what is best for their finances, but it sure is a democratic way of making the tough decision. Much to the dismay of the powers that be. If this leads to the Greeks exiting the euro, it might just have more of an impact on everyone around the world than most are willing to realise. We will see in a weeks time I suppose.
  2. They are having a press conference in 20 mins or so where hopefully they announce the problem. Not the best birthday present for Elon. edit:
  3. http://reneweconomy.com.au/2015/saudis-build-worlds-first-large-scale-solar-powered-desalination-plant-82903 Maybe the oil rich nations are taking initiative.
  4. What a bummer for Space X and the entire space program. Lets hope the next one is more successful. http://www.breakingnews.com/item/2015/06/28/video-spacex-explosion-on-launch-instagram-user/
  5. Plenty of places are surviving just fine on 100% desal. Gulf states for example. sure you will have to to pay for water, but if you want free water... live in a wet state. There are plenty to choose from If you want to live in a desert, expect to pay for water. pretty simple.
  6. I think you should look at Scandinavia before you make that decision... But in reality there is not a complete socialist society in the world, nor a complete capitalist one... The US military is a Socialist program. The park down the road is communist and the corner store capitalist. Can't talk about big corporations because their tax handouts and government assistance are pretty much as socialist as you get... But I digress.. The latest move from the Greeks is a real democratic one. They are going to let the people decide whether the bailout deal is worth it or not. They are having a referendum on the 5th of July.
  7. Looks like tough decisions are to be made in Europe over the next couple of days. The outcome has serious implications for markets worldwide. Personally I think the EU/IMF cannot afford the default and Greece know that. If Greece defaults, it has options but the EU may not. If the EU/IMF write off debt then that is not fair on Spain, Ireland... If EU keep pushing for what they are asking, then it will take Greece hundreds of years to get out of the shit... Who loans money to a junkie and expects to get it back anyway? What a clusterfuck.
  8. Is your google search broken? Typically junkies continue to abuse... http://www.ibtimes.com/what-drugs-was-dylann-roof-suboxone-powerful-narcotic-found-charleston-shooter-1973919 If sitting in a church for an hour or so with a bunch of people then pulling out a gun and killing 9 of them is not enough to constitute a sudden burst of outrage... Then I would prefer to remain out of your presence.. LOL And had been on numerous mind altering drugs for at least 'months' and probably a lot longer... I am not saying the guys was not screwed in the head, I am saying that the drugs he was on probably played just as big of a role as the mental issue he might have had. It seems there were plenty of indications suggesting this guy was going to lose the plot.
  9. LOL But seriously the kid was on pharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals that are known to cause sudden outrage. Even though the company that makes suboxone denies it will alter your mind (at the correct doses) and there are not warnings of such on the label... There are numerous reports of sudden bursts of outrage while people are on the stuff, there is no telling how many strips he was taking. It is an opiate and we all know how people that are addicted to opiates (often referred to as junkies) are when it comes to restraint. So I am not buying the 'at correct doses' thing. That is simply a statement to cover the ass of the company that makes them. He was probably taking strips and strips of the stuff while sitting there. Like many of the mass shootings, the drug/s this person was on probably played a bigger role in his decision making or lack thereof, than the underlying mental issues he may have had without them. It still makes him a murderer, and his friends should have reported it when he suggested he wanted to shoot up a school... He has been arrested several times recently and it was known he was on this drug... this could have been avoided it seems.
  10. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-33209654 Not so much mention of the Suboxone he was on...
  11. Groups are groups... Race is Race... This whole thing is supposed to be about racial issues. not group issues.
  12. The expression "African American" has been in use since 1831. It's meaning is well defined and well known. And the term nigger?
  13. A curve ball in this... Someone that was born in the USA, that had dutch descendants that have lived in South Africa since the early 1800's, who's parents moved to the united states before they were born is also an African american. Heck if they moved to Peru they would be an African american. And they would be just as African american as someone who's family has been in the US for many generations. If you believe wanna go down the DNA path... all humans originated in Africa according to many historians. Therefore all Americans are African Americans. The whole race by country is a farce. You are either Negroid, Caucasoid, Mongoloid or Australoid... There are no other option when it comes to race. All of whom are people. If it is not politically correct to say Negroid, Or Negro, then it is not politically correct to say Black or African American either.
  14. So lowering ones self to the level of a psychopathic murderer is the done thing... Gptcha Like I said, fueling the fire.
  15. Not really, it would be appropriate to point out the motivations of the killer in the article for sure, but to describe the victims by the color of their skin in the title, is racist. Why not 9 christians? They were people. If they were all white, would the headline say "9 white people killed"? or only if it was done by an 'African American'. I could care less if Michelle Obama or Oprah (for example) describe themselves as African Americans, they are being racist as well and only fueling the fire. If one wants to differentiate between race, then the terms Caucasian, Negroid and Mongoloid (and australoid) should be used... Try calling someone with dark skin a negroid though... they will think you are insulting them, when that is the scientific term for their race. The term negro also seems to be taboo these days, when it simply means black. But the word black is perfectly ok? weird. Society has such a skewed interpretation of what racism or equality is these days, that I am not sure anybody really knows what that means anymore.
  16. and you are probably over looking the fact that 99% of 'African Americans' would not have a clue about which particular nation their ancestors were 'stolen' from. Heck, the country they came from is probably called something completely different now.
  17. African American... African or American? which is it? How about British American or Irish American? maybe German American? when do you ever hear those terms? I don't get it... This term (African American) along with, white, black and any other term that segregates different people by the colour of their skin is a problem. The title should say "9 people killed in a church". The US (along with many other places) is inherently racist, even those trying to be politically correct, are racist. A person is a person and should not be categorized nor judged by the colour of their skin or where their great, great granddaddy came from. I guess that suggestion would be too much for most to get their head around.
  18. Nah, it looks like a cross between a javelin and a vector. Both wings and vortex went down this road but with vortex doing a much, much better job. Wings are not put together well and are aesthetically inferior. The reserve top flap is a poor design. And OP, don't even talk to me about infinity, those are rubbish. They refuse to sort out the crapola secondary riser covers (an easy fix with stiffer material and a tweak in the template), and basically the things look like shit from day one. A vortex will look good until it is faded and ready to retire. My preferences out of all rigs are #1 Vector #2 Javelin #3 Vortex All have skyhook available and all are really well made. If you throw waiting time and price into the equation, vortex will have to win the battle hands down. Don't get vortex too tight though... they have the least 'extra room' out of my top 3 but that is a good thing if you size them right... A tight rig is a safe rig, as long as it does not fit into the 'too tight' category.
  19. They actually sell them now... http://www.paragear.com/skydiving/10000248/I1421/N3-ALTIMETER-ELASTIC-WRIST-BAND-MOUNT
  20. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/may/31/rand-paul-stalls-patriot-act-nsa-surveillance-powe/ I guess the constitution gets a short lived revival.
  21. Thank you for all the effort you are putting into this. I am sure the market will react well. HP canopies and wingsuits are not fringe anymore. Although there are more people that do not use high performance canopies. Those that do, do significantly more jumps than those that don't for the most part. As time goes I am sure there will be a relatively sizable market for these... someone is going to pop a speed cypres, or go in because it didn't fire due to them falling too slow, it is not a matter of if, but when. That is the point (unfortunately) that you efforts will be really respected.
  22. 'Seems' I have a smaller canopy (3.1) on order and I am already 2.9, but that is not my competition canopy (3.3), it is my everyday canopy. If I want to do well in competition and I am jumping over 1000 times a year for work, why not use that opportunity to progress by using as similar a canopy as possible all the time so it is not such a different picture and feeling when I compete. This canopy is also my accuracy canopy. It opens more consistently and softly than any other canopy I have ever flown. it is a great work horse, it can out float many other canopies much bigger on long spots... This new technology is providing more lift per square foot. You never saw velos in the sub 70 range, because they didn't make them because they didn't work... there is a good reason for that. Even the 71's and 75's are/were also dogs and you seldom saw them in competitions, for a good reason. New technology brings new problems, old safety devices are not designed to cope with this. Airtec seem to think increasing the activation speed is the answer. It is not. How fast were you falling when your cypres fired? Were you unconscious? We all know someone spinning falls slower... If by the time I get my smaller faster parachute, I will likely not jump it using a speed Cypres. I will probably get an Astra and turn it off once open. I would like a more modern solution though.
  23. Hi, Just wondering if there is any movement in this project. Since the last post in this thread, the two most popular civilian parachute manufacturers have released canopies that are capable of exceeding the parameters of even a speed Cypres. I am not talking about competition canopies like Petra and Peregrine, I a talking about Valkyrie and Leia. I own one of these. I won't say which as to avoid 'manufacture wars' but recently I have been seriously concerned about firing my speed cypres. Sub 70 foot canopies are becoming quite normal now for some (including me) and we are always looking for more speed and we are getting it. I am going to get an even smaller one as I know I can get better distances from it but the problem lies with the rules and concerns with AAD's I have not 'upgraded' my speed cypres to the newer parameters of over 100 mph yet, but in doing that my concerns are doubled. It is still possible to exceed this fall rate, though less likely, but now if I am knocked out and spinning, probably on my back with camera wings on... there might not be enough vertical speed to activate the unit when it is needed most. I liked the parameters of the Argus the most, switch off/deactivate once the canopy is open... They are banned in many places including my home DZ and as we all know, there is not enough confidence in the cutter design. The only other option I have right now is an Astra. These have their own complications. The market is desperately in need of an answer to this. It is only a matter of time that another fatality will occur with a speed cypres, not because the unit did not do it's job, but because we are paying with parameters that are going to be broken with our everyday use. It could be said to simply not downsize anymore an I am seriously considering that, but this is not in the spirit of skill development. Our safety equipment is holding us back now.
