  1. The most frustrating thing with these aircraft investigations, is the knee jerking and flip flopping from the authorities. When a discrepancy leading to implications comes to be in the said investigation, they don't want to know anything about it, rendering the investigation completely invalid. They are all just ass covering, that is what people do these days...honesty hurts in this cruel world. When you have lost good friends it is devastating, let alone having to recover from major injuries like some of you have...
  2. As much gobbledygook as there is out there... we cannot forget this speech. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeYgLLahHv8 Not all 'conspiracy theories' are incorrect nor irrelevant. Calling someone a 'conspiracy theorist' in regards to the JFK assassination for example defines them from those that believe the official dogma. On the other hand calling someone a 'conspiracy theorist' in the case of 9/11, as many do, does not. Doing so is actually hypocritical as there is no possible way for that event to be anything other than a conspiracy, whatever you believe. Using the term to regard someone as 'automatically incorrect' is also quite absurd. That said; Skydivers come from all walks of life, but I would place money on there being just as many 'conspiracists' (as it was put) in any sport or group of people with a large and diverse number. Whether they are willing to talk about it is a different story. The usual rhetoric will ensue if one dares question the majority's assertion. People are scared of ridicule. I guess skydivers being willing to 'take a risk' if I may put it that way, might make skydivers more likely to talk about it if they have a question, than maybe a group playing lawn bowls...
  3. tandem mains should be thoroughly inspected every 25 jumps. section 2, chapter 4, page 3... I was concerned with lack of inspections in the main... the harness can easily be inspected before each use, but the main not so much. The reserve being inspected after use or 6 months is ok as it is not being used... They should be more clear about this stuff... good time to look over the drogue and risers etc at that point as well... With this included in the manual... looks like 25 jumps inspections are actually mandated.
  4. So, Scanning through the Sigma manual I found no trace of a schedule for inspections. Anyone know if there is one, or what do you do? Disreagard; Found it...must have scanned passed.
  5. Light setup and correct canopy choice. Yes I am an Icarus guy, but there is more than one reason for that. They know how to make a canopy snivel, sniveling is decelerating, decelerating reduces injury. Unfortunately too many people jumping camera place more focus on canopy performance than opening characteristics. If you are no interested in performance, use Dacron lines. If you are keen enough to use heavy high quality cameras and lenses, then purchase a canopy that will snivel, always. If you are shooting tandem video, then no need for uber expensive camera equipment with large heavy helmets. It is a $100 video. But if you are shooting for your own love for photography, and want thee added quality, then love your body and get a canopy that snivels... Not just plugging Icarus here but Safire2, Crossfire2 and Leia are consistent opening canopies. I use a Leia and it is hands down the most consistently nice opening canopy I have ever owned (and I have owned a lot of canopies). There are other canopies out there that open well, I know for sure that a xaos 21 is excellent for nice openings. PD canopies fly well, but from experience are mostly too inconsistent in opening characteristics to recommend. especially Sabre's. I always thought spectres were great openers until my buddy was forced out of the rotation from several really hard openings on one.. he is a big guy but so is the parachute. Personally I do not like the glide ratio's of square 7 cells like those... I think the Valkyrie is good opener from the reviews and some velocities are also good openers, but not everyone is ready for those. velocities seem to be hit and miss, but if you find a good one, it will treat you well. Parachutes have their own personalities but on average an Icarus canopy will have a better chance of opening soft as they seem to put more focus on that. I guess my point was made in the 3rd paragraph. Choose a canopy that snivels. It does not matter which brand. If you are scared by a 800 foot opening, then you are too used to hard openings and need to change if you want to fly camera a lot. I hear this from PD pilots, "it snivels too long". If it is less than 1000 feet, then it is not too long. Buy used and test drive, that is the best way to ensure you get a nice opener. Any brand can spit out a lemon, and you don't want to have to persevere with a shitty canopy. if you have a nice opening canopy, you can put a RED camera with a 1d and a heavy lens and still be all good, with a light weight helmet and cameras.. you will always be good. I have over 5000 video jumps and long gone are the days of sore necks... I use tonfly 3x, Gopro 4, eos 700d, sigma 15mm and a Leia 69... The perfect setup for tandem video in my opinion.
  6. Fuck McCain. He is a war monger, he wants innocent people to die so he a get contracts for those that support him financially. He has been through war, he knows what it means to be shot at. And he wishes people to go through that as well for the geopolitical and personal advancements of the wealthy. He is a cunt, Trump is a cunt most of them are cunts. Bernie Sanders and Rand Paul seem to to be making the most sense to me. I am neither left not right I vote for common sense when I vote. But that is politics. Fuck you , Fuck you fuck you McCain, you should be dead already.
  7. dunno about united... But; https://twitter.com/YourAnonNews/status/618626955433349120 Interesting that a hacker network had an inkling... while we are all left none the wiser. Whether or not it was hackers or a glitch, does not make the situation any less concerning. If a benign software update is able to bring down a stock exchange, is probably more of a worry than someone finding a back door somewhere that could be closed later. and BTW, That term 'conspiracy theorist' is a bit past it's use by date isn't it? Who isn't by definition?
  8. Fixed it for ya. Tell me which counties are in Debt or probably a much shorter or non existent list would be the countries that are not in Debt., Who is all this debt owed to and where does the money come from... How was it 'created'. Oh but when you do that, you have to realise that the entire banking system is a Ponzie scheme, palmed off as Keynesian economics... Then you have to feel scared, think it is too hard to change and go back to what you were doing... Back to the status quo. Greece forgave Germany 50% of their debt in 1953. How is this situation any different. I guess Tax evasion v's Genocide and failed European domination are two slightly different ways of getting running up so much debt. Tricky situation.
  9. We have Blackhawk caravans too, I do front float on those as well. It does take effort but it is worth it. Others get similar/better shots from rear float, I think that is harder to do as you really have to launch. But just reiterating that the better you get, the more a ring sight comes in handy. Nothing worse than a bad ass flyer that is all up in their face, but can't keep them in frame for shit... See that all too often. Also, there are people that do frame really well without them, but 'feeling sorry' for people that use them is a little condescending.
  10. You should give front float a go... better face shots on exit and less separation. A critique I will give that might improve the framing there, is to center their chest in the door rather than their head when you are that distance from them. There is a lot of door and not a lot of customer. This is something a ring sight really helps with. I am closer usually (front float) and fill the face on the screen. Not saying it is bad, but I am always trying to improve and that is what I would work on if I were you along with keeping more proximity on the exit... what video camera are you using (lens?). I have attached a couple of screenshots to show what I mean about face shots, filling the frame and to show why I personally like to use a ring sight. I don't think I could frame this well without one... perhaps, but not for sure. This is using a gopro4 on wide.
  11. Rubbish, there is no way NZONE does not archive everything. And if they didn't sell, you wouldn't be on the load filming them in the first place unless you were a rookie. Don't be shy now .
  12. Show us a good example of one of your videos then... I have seen plenty of people not 'need' them, but often there are heads and hands chopped out of the footage... and yes on tandem videos especially on exit. Helmets move and even the best of the best use ring sights always. It also comes down to how well you fill the frame. If you have a wide angle lens but are unable to stay close to the tandem right throughout the exit, then you probably don't need one until you can!
  13. vertical suits jacket and pants setup... mix and match. works for me.
  14. I bet you are too cool to use wings also?
  15. I don't know what sized system you are talking about, but the bigger the system needed, the bigger the battery bank you need for it to keep you running. I am going off grid, the batteries are the single largest factor in the equation. Something like the Tesla power-wall might be nice and will bring the price down, but for the minute batteries are twice as much at least per KWH.
