  1. I couldn't forget Pete.....I brought him several bottles...lol... 24 of them in fact. I heard he shares.....
  2. 1. How you feel about that in calm retrospect, relative to time spent and future (training/retraining) considerations? ...Do you think that perhaps getting your mind "locked in" as a result of repeatedly thinking of (and practicing) your EP's in this fashion, so that a "repeated" main PC reach as "EP action #1" is necessarily a good thing, or rather any reason for potential concern at all? ____________________________________ To be honest, my canopy spinning distracted me from my emergency procedures to where my mind went blank for a second. It was "muscle memory" that made me pull my reserve. I think next time (hopefully that won't be for a while) I won't be as panicked and will know what to expect and react a bit faster and go right for handle #2. ----------------------------------------------- 2. You were spinning on your back? ...Do you mind stating whether or not you jump an RSL in your gear, and giving us just a bit more detail as to the resultant (smooth/stable? ...line twists or not?) reserve deployment? _______________________________________ Yes, I do jump with an RSL and I know it is a serious choice whether to continue using it and when. After pulling #2 handle I felt the rings release, then a second of freefall, then my reserve seemed to pop out, with a turn to it, but I managed to grab those risers and straighten it out before it went into complete line twist. I managed to get stable without any delay, so I think that may have helped the deployment. ---------------------------------------------- 3. Also wondering what your "altitude awareness" situation may have been during all of this? _______________________________________ I am embarrassed to say, my "altitude awareness" I wish had been better. I know I tracked away from the formation at 4K, I know I pulled at roughly 3K, after that everything was a blurr and a fight....but I know I was under my reserve at around 1900. I am just thankful that I was very lucky, and walked away learning, to never hesitate, asses quickly and react quickly. Hope that answered your questions Kristin
  3. I should have been more clear....Gary watched the canopy fall in a direction, then landed near it, then picked it up off the ground and brought it back to the DZ..he didn't get it in the air or latch on to it at anytime...I agree that would have been dangerous and people should never do that......He probably would have been in big trouble if he did that, and he's a smart and safe jumper. Kristin
  4. Sorry, I forgot to post the malfunction. It seems that one of my toggles became loose on opening, then wrapped around my risers. I was flat on my back with my risers crossed in front of me and was spinning pretty fast. I must say it was pretty unnerving at the time. I remember saying to myself: shit, people are going to be really pissed if I don't do something soon. Then I panicked a bit trying to remember what to do, so I just put my hand behind me (to throw out my pilot chute, then #2 and #3), like I always do before I get into the plane and before I leave the plane, and my hands automatically found the handles without any thinking- only motor skills. I was sooo thankful to have a beautiful canopy over my head, until I couldn't release my reserve left toggle, so adrenaline kicked in and I ripped it down along with the velcro and landed safely.....Oh and thank you Gary for landing with my gear! Lodi, CA jumpers ROCK!
  5. Well, I had my first malfuction on Saturday. Not fun and yes I packed for myself that day. What I learned? I love my rigger, Pete Swan, who packed the reserve that saved my life and a huge thank you to Ed Pawlowski, worlds best instructor, who beat into my head to practice my emergency procedures everyday before I get into the plane and before I leave the plane. Had I not followed his instruction, I would not be here today. LESSON: PRACTICE YOUR EMERGENCY PROCEDURES EVERYDAY! and again big thanks to Pete and Ed!
  6. I miss one day at the dropzone and Shawn is stealing my suit! Copy cat! Congrats Shawn!!!!!!!!
  7. Tom, I should have been more specific...it wasn't the exact words on this post I was referring to in that sentence...it was the history of posts I was referring to ... In any event, in the future I will see who has stated a thread to see if the content would be something of interest to me
  8. If this tread wasn't worth your effort why did you respond? Does this mean you are adding to the drama, or is it still just one side stirring that up? -------------------------------------------- I never know when a thread will be good or not, till I read it. I was really frustrated to see another thread that IMO was less helpful and more debating- guess I just had had my fill, so I responded. However from what I understand from another poster on this forum- some people use it for entertainment (which is ok by me), which is not my cup of tea. I will, in the future, be more selective when reading posts.I'll start by checking to see who started the post and that will probably tell me whether its going to be informational and interesting or just entertainment. ------------------------------------------------------ BTW I don't think its drama its just your opinion and it is on a high enough level for this forum. Unless you are here strictly for some more cross dressing cartoon posts. Bonfire's got that all day long. ------------------------------------------------------- You lost me here? Cross dressing? I guess I missed that one..lol..lol.. I don't think that stating an opinion is high drama either.... unless it's intent is to stir things up and/or trying to make a DZ or vendor look bad on a public forum. --------------------------------------------------------- there are some people that have posted about new products and upcomming events only to be greeted with what you could consider true drama. ---------------------------------------------------------- Yes...I love to hear about new products and upcoming events...just not wingsuit flyers arguing about which manufacturer is better and taking cheap shots at pitting people against each other...that is sad... and true "drama" Hope you will have a good day
  9. I can learn a little from each debate which can change the way I see things - for the good or bad. From this post I can see that the fulltime skydiver has to charge for everything because he chose the fun life over real life 8 to 3 jobs. (Not that skydiving as a job doesn't sound appealing but I am spoiled into actually having money all the time) ----------------------------------------------- Glad you get something good from the posts
  10. They are working on it put there is just damn too few of them. ----------------------------------------------------------- Depending on your dropzone, I think this is true in every discipline. You had asked about "skygods" in Nor CA? I wouldn't label any awesome jumper that I know as a "skygod" up here . I would label them as extremly safe, knowledgeable and willing to help new jumpers. I feel very lucky to have a large selection of pro instructors and skydivers at my home DZ....guess I'm a bit spoiled ----------------------------------------------------------- I would like to see this forum be less controversal and less debating (it seems to be only a limited handful of people that are just online to create "drama").....hopfully those individuals will try and contribute at a higher level in the future. I should know by the "name" whether a posting is even worth replying to or even reading by now.... I thought this forum was: A forum where Bird-people and those wanting to learn more about flying a wing suit can get together and share ideas.....not to stir up a bunch of crap and debating..I don't really see how that helps the sport any? Guess I miss the point
  11. I seldom post in any forum, but feel almost compelled to post in this forum due to such utter disappointment in regard to your continued posting about "wingsuits". Since you have asked for opinions, I will offer mine: Although I have been in the sport for a short time and have made few wingsuit jumps (I need a suit to make more!) I find your posts in general to be more argumentative rather than insightful and thought provoking. You stated: ---------------------------------------------------------- The problem is, wingsuiting skipped a step. RW isn't dead, and freeflying isn't overrun with cocksuckers. People are trying to take wingsuiting straight from the 'small group of pioneers' stage, to the world record/skill camp/skygod/money stage right away, without going through the building stage. They want to ---------------------------------------------------------- HUH? I think that everyones ability is different and their are some people that have the ability to fly a suit to the record/skill camp/skygod/money stage..I have seen some of them fly and most are have sevral thousands of jumps in different disciplines and know how to fly well. So not sure where you were going with this. I really don't get it I certainly would not have been comfortable flying a suit without being coached by a BMI and I wouldn't recommend anyone flying a suit without proper training (my opinion)and I am willing and able to pay $$ for this service. I do expect them to be BMI's and I expect them to want to be paid for this service. My question to you is : Is anything okay? You seem very upset in you posts and almost like you are trying to stir the pot..however if you've notice the more experienced instructors show class when responding to the posts that I feel are not here to evoke change or to inspire the interchanging of ideas, but are only posted here to argue and "seem" controversial. I challenge you to write posts that contribute to the true spirit of this forum rather than create havoc and separation between people It's all about being safe and having fun! If I misunderstood all your posts, then I truly apologize.
  12. AHHHH (this is me getting anxiety) All too technical for me....... I have a plastic round orange thing on my right hand side...not sure if your calling that a BOC??? Evan...your post-too technical..I'm not a handy girl...LOL...LOL... I am off to Big Way camp Wednesday, so I will get my rig re-packed by a real packer...just to make sure it is safe. I attempted to re-pack it like the diagram, but I'm still a bit confused and unsure of myself. Thanks for everyone's help and YES I feel stupid....I really need to learn how to pack and should have learned a long time ago...lesson learned
  13. AHHHH...OK mine doesn't look like that picture!!!!..okay...THANK YOU!!! TOTALLY HELPED!!!!
  14. I am new to packing: does it matter which way the bridle crosses after the pin is in? I have a Javelin.... sorry if this is a stupid question...

  20. Thank you...Anabel from PD just called and explained about the demo form and they will be closed until next week for nationals (BTW)... So for those of you who were as confused on the system as I was: 1.) go to the manufacturers website 2.) Fill out demo form and submit 3.) They will contact you and arrange for payment and delivery. Thanks to all who PM'd me too!
  21. I have left messages at PD, but no one ever called back-am I supposed to wait/how long is too long not to get service. Am I going about this all wrong? How do I get a canopy to demo? Advice and some direction please Help
