  1. When I watch the video it just looks like those two pieces are exactly the same length and one peice of nylon tied in a knot and that is the loose end dangling behind. Anyone ever use something like that as a slider bumper. I will attach the video. Thanks for your replies. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/video/8352090-raw-video-complete-recording-of-skydive-mishap/ This is the long version so it actually shows the emts cutting the gear off
  2. Thanks that was exactly what I was asking for, a knowledgeable opinion. Sorry about the quality of the grabs they were from my phone from the cbs vid.
  3. What I'm saying is that they don't look like broken suspension lines. For the record I mentioned in an earlier post that his dumbass was looking into the camera as if that was his emergency procedure. We are in agreement, at the point of opening shit can happen and he blows it by not taking action.
  4. Notice how those lines trailing look like they are tied around the suspension lines and not connected to the riser. Also do any of the suspension lines look broken at the top, no.
  5. Setting all the rest of your post aside, do you really, REALLY believe they're REPACKING a canopy with broken suspension lines? I guess it's possible but I'm extremely skeptical. As for F-111 canopies with over 500 jumps… so? I'm sure the Raven IV I used from jump 1 until jump 45 or so had substantially more than that, but it was safe and fine. Also prepared me well for the first time I did a chop with my own rig and found myself under an F-111 7cell. In answer to your first question, did you go back and read the old thread? Look at the stills from the video? The suspension lines were broken on BOTH risers as soon as the chute opened and since opening shock was negligible in the video I assume they were packed that way. Given how fuzzy and sketchy looking the risers appeared in the still shots Im not surprised. Doug I have attached stills of the second it opens and flips him over. I could be wrong and hopefully an experienced rigger will either back this up or discredit it. I think what you are seeing is either an improvised break set, slider stay or break line grommets. Notice when it first opens you do not see those lines trailing but as soon as he releases the brake you do. I can swear I have seen these lines trailing in other videos. Also look in the still where his slider is open on the left side with the suspension lines separated. In my opinion the only reason it gets stuck and the lines look twisted is because that left brake line flopping in the breeze is holding it up. Like I said just trying to get some input, I could be wrong.
  6. Jt although I didn't mention it I read in the other thread that it was converted, and was just pointing out that if it was the main flap that malfunctioned it would have been a horseshoe. To the first part I mentioned that in my first post about rules at dzs. To whoever asked for the vid here it is in it's entirety. Which posses the question with all the grabbing and cutting , would you expect to find a riggers seal? Can someone save the vid? http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/video/8352090-raw-video-complete-recording-of-skydive-mishap/
  7. Good point, sort of remembering a video where he says even if it's our fault, you can not sue us.
  8. If I pulled up to said drop zone and they handed me gear my job is to check out whether the gear is safe and that I feel comfortable jumping that gear, if not walk away. I rented gear recently and as I turned on the aad, after the countdown it flashed 7-14, I had read about the aad I was jumping and knew it was a service date. I still brought it to the riggers attention. Why didn't Gerardo bring up the missing seal? Maybe like someone said that gear was do for a repack and he grabbed it not knowing. Without a proper gear check he wouldn't have caught the seal. I am not siding with the dz, if it was a bad rig than they are in the wrong. What if his crash did cause the riggers seal to be torn off and scuff the Velcro. If the main flap was Velcro and it malfunctioned he would have had a horseshoe. Clearly the first thing out was the pilot chute. My point of my first post was he was clearly distracted from taking action cause he wanted to talk into the camera! Which whether or not the rig was bad could have cost him his life. My point was are you going to sit there and cry into a camera or take the action necessary to save your ass! Speculate all you want on the gear, tell us in the same situation what would you have done
  9. Dz's can also make their own rules with terms such as "must have" and "not allowed", they no longer become recommendations. When you buy a ticket or rent gear you are agreeing to those terms. He is guilty of negligence since he caused this accident to happen. The proof is in his camera footage, no controllability check, toggle flopping in the wind, not noticing the tension knots or the slider configuration, and why didn't he noticed that he had worn out Velcro in his pre-jump check. That is assuming he did one. And why no ep's, he was too busy talking to his camera. Most of the people here would look at the canopy realize it was spinning towards the left even though he was pulling down on the right toggle and realize,I need to fix this or I'm in trouble. For all we know he could have passed out because of the slow spin at that high of an altitude, which if it was than he is fully responsible for not fixing the spin. Imagine a different scenario, he opens at the correct altitude, he looks up and has a stuck slider, now the only video we have is of him saying "it won't open, it won't open. I'm afraid to cut away" . We all know how that ends. He is lucky to be alive and should take responsibility for his actions and lack of action. Now for a laugh from someone who probably knows him. http://youtu.be/a645Wx_ymsA
  10. The first time i did a tandem it was amazing to me. Yelled the whole time in free fall. As I was walking to the parking lot a experienced jumper said "your hooked aren't you?". I was and when I finally started my aff, the second after I did my canopy control check I yelled "fuck yeah" so loud I think I scared the fish in the lake below me. That's the Same feeling I get every time I jump. On the other hand my girlfriend and my friend did tandems on my bday, my friend who had done an aff 1 before and several tandems was nervous, I was still nervous/anticipating after only 16 jumps, but my girlfriend looked like she was bored on the ride up, free fall video more of the same. She said it was fun, than told me she would probably be more excited for Aff and solo. Now I'll tell you what I say to her, why risk your life for something that you feel is just hmmmmm ok.
  11. my post about noise exceptions was for Mile-Hi. I know independents issues were ultimately decided by not being able to guarantee there wouldn't be errant jumpers. Could Jeremy have said I guarantee that 100% of the jumpers, not in a emergency situation, will land on the field.

  13. The lawsuit has two plaintiffs, CQS and Kim Gibbs. The attorney also said the plaintiffs who are other members of CQS. I understand that if the monies stay within the organization it would not be personal gain. I think that's the reason she was named a second plaintiff so that she could receive a settlement as well as a settlement for CQS. In essence she has already benefitted financially, she admitted on her fb that she didn't have the money to bring the lawsuit and from the donations now she does. Im not trying to start any arguments just want this woman stopped.
  14. My bad on that one, sorry for the mix up. As part of my complaint I did include evidence that she has always been using the nfp as a way to raise monies for personal gain and campaigning. Her lawsuit is asking for damages which would be personal gain.
  15. Stratostar, she was responding to my question and she said in her answer that CQS is a Colorado non profit. I sent the secretary a picture of that along with pictures of her thanking donors for specific amounts of money. The more people who write to the SOS the better the chances are that they are investigated. The email address is up in my really long post earlier. Her supporters have pledged to boycott any business that is partnered with Mile-Hi and Independent. Which is why I think a boycott by a bigger more powerful group such as ours would have a greater affect. The Canopy company is KD Kanopy company they employ one of the supporters of CQS
  16. The land is privately owned, which makes me wonder why they need permitting at all. I would think that they could use the argument that no business is done at the landing area.
  17. It's time to stop playing so nice. I tried to find cqs on several Colorado non profit databases, and could not find it. She has posted before that she has and is collecting money so without a license it would be fraud and I'm sure the irs would like to check it out as well. I wrote a letter to the Colorado state secretary, her reply is below. If any of you want to send an email stating that you believe that cqs is a fraudulent charity and any proof that cqs is collecting money for both campaigns and her lawsuit, it would help the Secretary investigate the "charity". I also believe that money talks, I think it only works if people lose money and know its because of a boycott. I think we need to put together a list of companies that are being boycotted by dzs and skydivers. I was in the market for two canopies and was looking at different canopy companies. While looking at some of the supporters of cqs I saw one of them works for a canopy company. I crossed them off my list right away and than notified the canopy company that I did and why. They responded and said they do a lot of business with Dzs and think a boycott was unfair. Who thinks it would be a good idea? 18. My first line twist I tried to pull apart the risers while kicking to no avail so I actually used my left hand to grab the right riser which was on top, than my right hand to grab the left riser that was on bottom. I pulled apart essentially transferring the twist to the riser but it made it easier to kick as the motion helped to cause momentum. This was on my twelfth jump and I was taught in the class to just pull apart but read in the sim to transfer, so when the training didn't work well for me I changed methods. 13th jump another twist and used the transferring method and it came out quicker.
