  1. It's like calling anything you dislike "fascism." After a while it doesn't mean anything any more other than "something really bad." Which is what the term WMD is becoming, both in common usage and legally. Unless you're trying to vilify a certain US President, in which case you try to set impossible standards.... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
  2. I see you've already been corrected... (B) any weapon that is designed or intended to cause death or serious bodily injury through the release, dissemination, or impact of toxic or poisonous chemicals, or their precursors; (C) any weapon involving a biological agent, toxin, or vector (as those terms are defined in section 178 of this title); or If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. 3. rcmp held a press conference at 3:30. Plot had to do with blowing up a VIA rail passenger train, possibly on the bridge into New York over the Niagara River. Not a lot of details yet. A lot of congratulating the various departments involved. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. 4. Just playing devil's advocate here, but wouldn't that logic make an AR15 a WMD? Good point. Depends on the magazine size and what the law says are the max number of bullets allowed. No because you have to pull the trigger each time you want to fire the gun. Unless it was full auto, which isn't available to mass public. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone

  6. Its an IED not a feckin nuke FFS Talk about a stretch, is this so that they can say that yes they found WMD in Iraq in years to come? well, according to some accounts I read there were certainly lots of biological weapons and ingredients found in irag, so I don't think they have to make stuff up ?? The WMD justification for Dick & Junior's invasion of Iraq have been pretty thoroughly debunked these past several years. talking about nuclear, yes. But as I said I;ve read lots of reports about biological weapons... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. 9. Depends if he was ever given the chance. This guy wasn't: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kassP7zI0qc apparently the cop in this video, after being recorded at least twice more with similar behavior, was fired in January. However an arbitrator has now said the firing was uncalled-for, and he can have his job back if he gets medical approval. He was on workman's compensation and going for a disability pension.... 10. And just because somebody has something posted to Facebook, doesn't mean he's going to act on it. Even if he does act on it, it doesn't mean he's part of a larger organized group. seems like they are considering they were part of a group. Police commissioner is saying things like 'they were the principal perpetrators' or 'major actors'. So it's sounding to me like they ARE being considered jihadists, and probably had help or supporters. But the terrorists now are still acting in 'cells' to remain anonymous from authorities... From sun news: Investigators are seeking, among things, to determine whether the two suspects acted alone. Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said he was convinced the Tsarnaev brothers were the two principal perpetrators. “I am confident that they were the two major actors in the violence that occurred,” he told CNN on Sunday. Davis also said investigators have discovered at least four undetonated devices, one of them similar to the two pressure cooker bombs set off at the Boston Marathon, and that he believed the suspects were planning additional attacks. 13. do know that when we went on military exercises out west, we always had one guy with live rounds in case of bears. I would never tell someone he couldn't carry a weapon if there is a possibility of encountering dangerous wildlife. As far as in town, as you said, I can see that some people might call, but it looked like the country to me in that video. I live in the country. I have bears come to my bird feeders sometimes. I can absolutely see nothing wrong with carrying a legal weapon on a country road, but then that's just me. WRT the North Carolina statute I also don't see how any weapon can be included as an unusual and dangerous weapon no matter how common, however I see the judges disagree with me. It seems to me that it would not be unusual to see a person with a concealed carry permit carrying, but again that;s just me and the judges seem to have come to a different conclusion. I do however, still think I would encourage this guy to fight the charges and sue over it. We have actually had cases up here where police officers have had to sue other police forces over various things. Obviously there is a lot of pressure put on them from their superiors to drop the lawsuits, no matter how bad the treatment they received from the other police force was, but they have won such cases. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
  14. Exactly! As someone else above also stated, we're not sure what may have taken place prior to the camera starting, but I can't see where the citizen was committing any crimes. With that being said, I can't see where he made the wisest decision by carrying an AR while taking a long walk down a public highway. He was bound to attract some unwanted attention. what is wrong with walking down a public with an AR? One of the most common rifles in America, it's not an unusual or an illegal weapon? Why can't he carry it? Especially if, as he said, their are cougars etc. around? I don't see anything wrong with it. However, it's not something that you commonly see and would therefore attract unwanted attention. Obviously it did in this case and a person (or multiple people) called the police about it. from the link quoted above it seems the only people they mention had actually FIRED their weapons, in one case behind someone's car and in another at some buildings. Doesn;t seem like a firearm not even been carried at the ready, and not being brandished, would constitute an offence under that law. That being said, it's a north carolina law, and I don't think that that's what he's being charged with. Furthermore, I highly doubt that he would do anything crazy before the camera started rolling, considering he was out walking with his son. And his son is a witness. I would be fighting this all the way, and then suing the police over it. But that's something he'll have to figure out - the military may not want him to do that. Sure is sad seeing this happen in Texas though. Whoever called in a complaint about him walking should be expelled from the state. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone

  16. keeping in mind the fact that it was one of the victims that watched the guy drop a bag at his feet and told cops within hours who and where it was so that they knew where to look and who to look for, the cameras were useful for disseminating pictures to the public, but they don;t get all the credit for the speed of the investigation. 18. No, he was investigated because the Russians claimed they thought he might have links to terrorists. From what I've heard/read so far, the FBI found no substantiation for the Russians' claimed suspicion at that time. See the difference between the way you phrased it and the way I did? Anyhow, did the Russians really suspect him of that, or were they engaging in tactics to intimidate not only him, but the Chechen diaspora community beyond the reach of their jurisdiction? After all, polonium micro-pellets don't come cheap; you can't use them on every seditious troublemaker on foreign soil, just the noisiest ones. If the russians wanted to intimidate him, or didn't want him spreading chechen nationalistic philosophy, they either wouldn't have allowed him back into the country, or he never would have gotten out again. 20. One of the links from aphid's column leads to another young canadian boxer killed in russia as a jihadist and tells how he went from converting to islam to joining the movement to dead in just over a year. All these people saying they don't believe it just hadn't seen him in a while. One of the traits is that converts withdraw from previous relationships as they surround themselves with similar jihadist followers and orthodoxy... What makes you so sure about this person you never met? How do you know that the people who knew them hadn't seen them for years? Maybe the news in the USA is playing different stories to those outside of the USA. well, let's see. maybe among other things because his uncle said he hadn't seen him since 2005? Some of the others also were talking specifically about when they knew the older brother AT SCHOOL, not since he went back to Russia. And same with the younger brother, many of the people quoted are talking about when he came to parties during high school a couple of years ago... 21. apparently someone thought so at the time, even before he went. And I don't know if he needed a visa or anything to go and stay that long, or even if he stayed. He could have left russia to go to one of the training camps in the middle east for all I know. It happened with 4 kids from my hometown last year, 2 of whom had their dna show up in a bombed out vehicle in the gasfields of algeria a couple of months ago, another of whom is in jail for terrorist activity in africa. So I'll say it again. He had already been flagged. Funny how you're willing to take rights away from millions of americans over gun control, but don't think we should suspect someone as being a terrorist when he's already been flagged and already died carrying out a terrorist act. 24. you think the gov't doesn't monitor facebook already? The point is, in most of the recent crazy incidents, gov'ts DID know about the persons involved. They didn't bother looking farther. Maybe in the Lanza case the mother could have been more strident, we don't know yet. But cops had been involved with Loughner and Holmes, and fbi had been involved with this russian... 25. see the article linked early 2011, a foreign government asked the FBI for information about Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The request stated that it was based on information that he was a follower of radical Islam and a strong believer, and that he had changed drastically since 2010 as he prepared to leave the United States for travel to the country’s region to join unspecified underground groups.
