  1. It sounds like you have not bought a container yet but may have already purchased a main. An Electra 170 should have a pack volume of around 386 cubic inches. Looking for containers you would be looking for one that was designed to accommodate that but you should also be looking at what size reserve is appropriate for your weight and experience and harness sized to fit your personal body size. All three are important. It’s more than just a matter of fitting a main. Hope your discussing with your local rigger. "You don't get many warnings in this sport before you get damaged"

    Commercial balloon tandem skydives?

No problem Rob. Just get the pilot to hang on tight to the drogue like a static line! Don’t give people ideas!!!! :) "You don't get many warnings in this sport before you get damaged"

    HMA vs Vectran?

Just recently had a conversation with the manufacturers of the lines. So basically all HMA is Technora that is coated. HMA will stay smooth and look normal till it gives out without warning. Vectran will look like hell and still hold up. But the wear on items like your canopy will not be good. "You don't get many warnings in this sport before you get damaged"

    Commercial balloon tandem skydives?

You almost got there. Your level 1 area quote from the AC is 12.a.6.a Your answer is 12.a 2 also open field areas 12.a.1 are allowed. As to a balloon jump from 13k and does a field look level. No idea you would need to ask the TI on the jump. He is the one who is or was making the spot and once leaving the craft is the PIC. Having landed a tandem off the intended landing area before it’s up to the TI to make his or her best decisions. I won’t judge them from my couch. Commercial balloon tandem skydives?

You would be incorrect, Tandem demo’s are allowed but have stated limitations in the US. You can find the info in the USPA Sims manual and the FAR’s. I see you hold ratings but are not in the US. What your countries rules are I have no idea. "You don't get many warnings in this sport before you get damaged"

  11. Many of the cordura pouches have an inner fold about 3/4” back from back from the mouth of the pouch. This allows for an elastic band at the mouth that reduces the mouth area and a larger main pouch area. "You don't get many warnings in this sport before you get damaged"
  12. Basically the roll grabs the inner fold on the BOC stopping the pilot chute from extracting. Hard to give a mental image but it does/can cause issues. When I was jumping that style rig I started packing a longer thinner method and had no issues. Another jumper had this happen on a wingsuit jump and while he did get it out he was dirty low by the time he did. I have a few customers that have this style BOC. I’ll try to remember to make a short vid of it the next time one comes in for a repack. "You don't get many warnings in this sport before you get damaged"
  13. While that pilot chute packing method works well on most rigs it should IMHO never be used on rigs that use a cordura BOC. It can lock up on the inner fold on that type of BOC causing a hard or potentially a non pullable condition. I found that on my first rig and was lucky that I found out at home while practicing and not in the air. I actually had a short conversation with Brian about this’s few years back and at that time he agreed. Later while jumping in Florida I had an opportunity to meet a salesman from Sunrise and talked with him about this and even packed this into his personal rig that had a Cordura BOC. On the first try we completely lifted his rig sideways just holding the hackey, but it pulled right out on the second attempt. He said he was going to talk with the folks at the factory about it but I never heard anything else about it. "You don't get many warnings in this sport before you get damaged"
  14. Been psycho (roll) packing for hundreds of jumps on both standard canopies and on cross braced with no issues. It tends to slow the openings slightly and is easier to teach new jumpers than pro packing. It also packs tighter so is a lot easier to get into the D-bag and easier to close. We have started to quit calling it psycho packing since people tend to be put off by the term and simply calling roll packing. Have packed up to 240 student canopies and last week was helping a jumper with a mid 70’s Valkyrie that was having hard openings and it seemed to solve his problems.
