Is my GoPro on?

Our C-206 has only an outside bar you can hold onto. When preparing for one of my first jumps from a C-208 Caravan, I grabbed the inside bar instead. At first the correct, palm-up way. Then I re-gripped, like I do on an outside bar: palm-down. I was focused on the exit and didn't think much about this. Until the GO, when my right hand got stuck between the bar and the door for a split of a second. Fortunatelly I got away with a smashed finger nail and a lesson learned.

So the AFF-I mounts the GoPro upside down, most likely to reduce the snag risk (compared to a "teletubby" mount), but she leaves a small gap between the GoPro and the helmet? That's a good point. I suggest Avidemux (freeware): http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/download.html Most video converters will re-encode the video file, which has a bad impact on the quality. Avidemux can copy the video stream and put in another container (like mp4) without losing any quality. A quick guide: - Open the mts file - Under "Output Format", select "Mp4vs Muxer" - Make sure "Video/Audio Output" options are set to "Copy" - Now simply save the file (File > Save) You can also cut out the beginning and/or the ending of your video by putting start/end markers - again, without losing any quality.

More like basic probability theory.

You're considering the odds afterwards. The odds for the 10001st jump indeed don't change. But the odds of dying by a one time jumper and a jumper who wants to do 10000 jumps are not the same. The same for the Russian roulette: If I have won 100 games, the odds don't change for my 101st game. If I play the game once (let's say: odds of dying are 1/6), you have 5/6 = 83% chance of living - each time. But if you play the game 100 times, the chance of living is (5/6)^100, which is something around 0.000001%. Math's a bitch :D

I showed my mother a video of my AFF course. She really thought that a camera guy was sitting inside the plane while filming me and my instructors in freefall. She was even worried that we were flying so close to the plane :D

Wow, thanks for all your answers! That's a lot of things I should keep in mind, and I guess frequent ground training should help me to make one fluid movement out of those things without really thinking about them. But it's really encouraging to know it's not ALL my fault :)

So I finally started my skydiving adventure - the ordinary way (static line), no AFF. My problem is that I just cannot perform a decent exit (which of course is required to start doing "real" jumps).
