Make your own helmet cut away

Just made my own a couple weeks ago. Cost about $20 plus shipping.

I have that one also. But I'd say that's more along the lines of "buy your own helmet cut away". I'd consider assembling a pad around the loop for easier mount and access - but it's simple and clean.

"making" doesn't equal "assembling"

However, that design is perfectly fine - one can go buy the right size pins and cotters, springs and....well, that's about it ...you need some kind of handle

then just make sure to assemble it such that:
1 - the spring actively pushes the strap off of the pin
2 - everything is ordered to minimize another snag point (I prefer the assembly to be on the inside of the helmet, not outboard so we don't have something sticking out - spring pushes on the pin)

...
Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
